I know this was shot in South Carolina but this video resonates so much with me. My family is from the Black Belt region of Alabama. They ride ATVs, go on trail rides, participate in rodeos, break in bulls, hunt deer and rabbits, roast hogs in pits, have cattle and hay on their land. I am proud to be the granddaughter of a fourth generation black farmer and it’s an indescribable feeling to walk our fields and know it’s the same land your 3x great grandparents walked. I feel like rural Black people are often treated as non2-existent. Seems like every movie or tv show about black people is either inner city or suburbs. Yea we also live in predominantly black areas that are in the COUNTRY. I have met so many black people who have only been in large cities and they don’t seem to believe me when I say how my family’s community has our own subculture. Like one person insisted to me that Black people aren’t family oriented but that is definitely not my experience. Heck a lot of times I can’t just introduce myself only by my name. Have to say who my people are. Thank you for creating this. It means more than words can say.
