Take a break. I was struggling to make “studio quality music”. I was having a hard time building full sounding tracks and making music that was clear. I stopped for two months and practiced “theory”. Once took the time to read books on music practices, learn Ableton inside and out and become familiar with my plugins…the switch just flipped. The takeaway is…you can still learn without actually making music. Become familiar with your equipment and keep your head up!

One thing that helped me starting out was to actually take a step back to learn the fundamentals instead of rushing into trying to make songs. For years I was too focused on just trying to make songs over and over, I was stuck using loops that weren't giving me the sound I was after, and I gave up several times.
Now, I am finally going back to the basics. Learning how to make drum patterns, learning new terminology, learning how to make bass trills, learning music theory, learning about EQ and effects etc.. music production can often feel like a second language in the beginning but giving yourself grace and patience on your learning journey is so so important.
I have started talking to some friends and others online who produce music to see who they follow online, what subscriptions they use for samples like splice, and what things they've learnt along the way and it's been insightful! Having people in your corner who also make music and who will celebrate your learning successes with you is incredibly motivating and uplifting, especially when you're just starting out and not sure if you're headed in the right direction.

I love making music for fun and if it’s somehow gets out there and people enjoy it to me that’s all that matters. I’m never trying to push to the industry level. I hear all the crazy stuff that happens behind the scenes and I would rather have my peace and serenity and enjoy the music and have others enjoyed it with me.

I have also wanted some friends who enjoyed talking about production and writing songs. I am still learning on my own pluggin away, pun intended. I think if someone is listening to my beats/songs every day and leave a like or a comment, also if it’s only one person, it motivates me enough to make beats every day! Never give up your dream’s, even if people say that you should go out and get a job. At the end of the day the only thing that counts is that you‘re happy 😃

You clearly never had a mentor, because if you did you would have put it at number 1 in your list. There is no better faster way to learn your craft, and understand what you are doing wrong and how to fix it than having a mentor. Find one! Or a few. And not your friends, who know as little or less than you.
