Thank you so much I went on depo in oct 2022 and up to now I have been bleeding heavy clots . I was put on peverna to stop the bleeding which did work. Now my period is on for 14 days and the same problem started again. I am going to check a gynocologist to see if i have fibroids. I am so glad that I am not alone with this problem.

I only took it for three months and it was the worst three months of my life. I spotted the whole time. I was even developing narcolepsy where I could barely stay awake. I decided not to go for a second shot, and now I have a regular period and no other abnormal bleeding. Never again.
Thanks for sharing. It's always good to get the pros and disadvantages of any method, and these medicines can affect people differently.
I feel the same way. I'm only a few weeks in but the effects are scary. I'm glad you didn't have any decidual cast story and that your body regulated after. That's what I'm scared of.
@LionHearted8806 my period went back to normal as soon as I got off. The depo experience taught me that not everything is for everybody.
When did it finally stop for you? It's been 4 months non stop plus clotting for me. Only took one shot in March. I refuse to get another.
@korenbuckley9885 my period went back to normal the following month after I decided not to take the second dose. I hope things will get better for you.
I cant believe theyre still administering this. It was so scary when i got it in 1999!
I’ve been on Depo for 2 months & It has completely depleted my libido, energy levels, mental health is shot. I wasn’t aware I was going to be bleeding every single day since I got the shot. My 3rd shot is coming up soon & I am going to see my options for switching birth controls.
Forgot to mention, that staying awake is a challenge everyday. It has affected my progress at the gym, work, class & even driving.
Do you mean you're about to get your 2nd shot? Depo is usually every 3 months or 2 months, not sooner.
For some ladies, it may not be the ideal option, and if you're struggling after the initial 3 or 4 months, it's good to consider an alternative.
Thanks Doc for calming me this morning, i got my 4th shot last Aug and i dont have any problem but this 4th shot make my mens heavy for 2 days then spotting for near 8days then no spotting for 5 days then yesterday i spot again,.i visit my obgne for this last oct 25 she said it was my depo but still scared me but to your explanation i more okay❤
I have the same experience as the first girl. I also got my first shot in February. It’s currently May and I’ve been bleeding every single day the last 5 weeks straight. I am extremely disappointed.

I’m 40 and 1 daughter. I have fibroids more than 10 years. Always had heavy bleeding but since 1 year ago it worse. My ferritin went really down even on iron supplements. I started depo injection to try to have my period stopped. First month it was great, after I had 2 months unstopping bleeding. I had to be blood transfused I didn’t get the second shot. Acid Tenatramic really helped me. Now I’m trying Orilissa, because I also have endometriosis. Let’s see.

I’m 5 months on the depo shot (so on my second shot) and since the start of the second month every day I’ve have had what I’d describe as dry spotting (typically can manage it with a panty liner, and the blood is that black/brown old blood and sometimes clots)
For background this is my first time on any birth control. Previously iv always had very irregular periods. Like I would get my period rarely month to month. It was typically anywhere from 4- even as much as 12+ months between periods. (My mom’s cycle was the same before she had kids apparently). I decided to start the depo birth control because I’m a trans masculine person so anytime I have my period I experience a lot of dysporia. As well as since I got it so infrequently I always struggle to manage it. Since I haven’t had practice know what works for me and even struggle to know any warning signs that I’m about to start my period. So I’d worry everyday that it was going to start even when I wouldn’t have one for month or even a year sometimes.
I know this daily “dry bleeding/spotting” might not seem like a big deal compared some but I’m first of all worried since I wasn’t warned about the possibility of daily bleeding for months on end. And experiencing more gender dysphoria then ever everyday now as apposed to worry everyday but dysphoria for only a week every few months.
My Dr seems surprised when I told him what I was experiencing when I went for my second shot but not worried. I’m struggling with wether to give the shot a longer try and get my third in a month. But I’m really struggling mentally from this bleeding. Also afraid I’ll experience what the person you talk about in this video is experiencing(continued bleeding for months after).
What would you recommend I don’t or ask my dr to look into to figure this out and know if this is just what my body will be like on the depo shot or if there’s something I can do to stop it.

Hi, so I was on depo on and off for about 2 years. I ended up having my son after getting off depo. My depo shot last effective date was October 15th. I found out I was pregnant September 11th. Almost a year later I did get my period no later then December 2 months after getting off. I have never bled or cramps before getting pregnant on depo. I have now got on depo again and having light spotting light pink/ brown color. After being on again for a month. Do you know an answer to this ? Am I pregnant again or what’s exactly happening?

I've beed diagnosed for endometriosis. With R ovarian cyst. My doctor injected me of DMPA (depotrust) mar- apr 2024 every 2 weeks. Then may 30, 2 vial for 1 injection. But I spot for 17 days & heavy flow on last June 16 until now. Can I take oral contraceptive, even though I still have Depotrust injection?
I started my depo journey on March 7, 2024. I've been bleeding my whole 3 months. I have my tubal removal appointment September 9, 2024. I'm so over the traditional birth control. I'm 36 years old. My normal period is 3 days.

Hi I’m going through the same thing as this question and they gave me the trianemic acid for 5 days which I took and for the first few days it came down as spots and the last day of the tablet it started to came back down heavy. I suffer with anemia plus I have friboids. Any advice. P.s. I took the shot in October and started to bleed in November and it hasn’t stopped since then. Please help.

I started the depo It stopped my periods for at least 3 or 4 shots. All of a sudden. I start my period. It's really scary because I know know whats going on when I'm now used to not having periods

Hi doc, I’ve been on Depo for about 2 yrs now. I’ve noticed that during the month for my next shot I get quite bloated and constipated which is hard to determine cause my stomach will get pretty round from the trapped gas and more. Should I be worried? I’m always on time for my shots and get them right on the first day of my window opening sometimes a day later. This is my first birth control and I’m now starting to be intimate for over 6 months now. Is there anything I can do to decrease the amount of bloating and more. Thank you for any help you can give.

Hi I’m not a doc or anything but I took it once and since reading up about it, the warning say not to use it for more than 2 years bc it can begin to wear out your bones. I notice you said you have passed your 2 years mark so maybe it’s something you should look into or ask about

Hi, sometimes it can take some time after the shot for the natural cycle to resume. But it's a good idea to see your healthcare provider to check this irregular bleeding is not due to anything else.

Hi Robin, different things could explain the bleeding like stress or a depo effect but the best thing is to have this checked out with your doctor.
More often the reason is benign and simply explained.

Hi Eric, I'm sorry to hear the shot didn't work for you both as planned.
Yes, it's possible, as no method (except abstinence) is 100% effective.
Also if there's a delay in taking the shot from its due date, that could reduce the effectiveness of the method.

You can say my period been unregular ever since I got it I will bleed a lot and sometimes just spotting and then out of no where I don’t get it and then out of no where I spot yesterday and then not bleed more
It's not normal and doesn't happen often.
But the depo is not 100% effective, so in a very small percentage, a woman can get pregnant while using it.
Do a pregnancy test. Speak to your nurse/Dr about your bleeding.

Ideally, it’s the doctor looking after you who knows how severe your condition is/ any other medical issues that can advise you about having children, I do recommend you discuss this with them.

I’m from the Uk I started the depo injection 9 months ago but I’m finding my periods haven’t stopped I get 3/4 heavy bleeds considering stopping I do already have a diagnosed endometriosis many other things I’ve tried have the same affect the pill the coil the implant all made me

Hi, while on depo, it temporarily stops monthly ovulation. The bleeding comes from the effects of the hormone in the depo, which is quite a large amount and causes the womb to shed, thus the bleeding. For some women, they don't bleed while on the depo. I got the shot in October I’ve had a period every month next shot was due January I am not taking anymore at all . But I’ve had a period heavy with clots for one month straight. With extreme headaches . I am taking SS Tonic for iron and a iron liquid called natures essential blood tonic syrup it nasty tasting but it’s worked wonders for me no more headaches. Hello Dr I have been experiencing a lot of pain in my belly especially 2 weeks before my period and during my period I would pass clots blood . I visited a gynecologist did a ultrasound and saw that I got back another ovarian cyst on the right Fallopian tube shows dilated measuring 4.6 x1.1 cm .
In 2019 I found out I had a ovarian cyst and after 3 months I got another they both went away in 2021 . December 15th 2022 I got another .
The Dr put me on Microgynon 30 ED for 3 months to monitor me to check if I have endometriosis. I have been trying to get pregnant for the past 2 years and nothing so I decided to start the birth control .
My period usually last for 4 day on my first day of period I started taking the birth control and I was bleeding heavy and pass much more bigger clot blood I took the birth control for 5 day and decided to stop it cause I noticed the birth control was causing the heavy clod blood i bleed for 10 days and decided to see another gynecologist which they put me on Norethisterone 2 tablets every 8 hours for 5 days to stop the bleeding. After two day the bleeding stop but every time I urinate and when I wipe I noticed dark brown discharge. After taking the Norethisterone for 5 days after I started bleeding again I went back to see the gynecologist and they put me on Medroxyprogesterone injections to stop the period then was told it is a birth control for 3 months I really didn’t wanted to take this injection but the gynecologist told me it will stop the bleeding. I feel I was misinformed and later I found out this type of birth control stays in your body for almost a year.

Hi, it would be great to get more details, but dark blood may be due to slow bleeding, allowing more time for the blood to be oxidised as it leaves your body.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so awful! Can you ask your Dr to check you asap, and before the next shot? It's extremely important, especially as you mention your bleeding, fatigue and heart rate.
hey i been on depo for almost 3 months and been bleeding for 3 months. My doctor gave my birth control pills to stop the bleeding but it has not stopped. I was thinking about not going back for my second shot. If i stop taking it will the bleeding go away immediately ?
Hi. Probaby, not immediately. May take a variable period for the effect of depo to wear out of your system - i.e., it's different from woman to woman

Hi, if you stopped the shot after it was next due in August/September, yes, pregnancy is possible.

But within the first month I haven't got my period pls need and explanation pls

Hello doctor I was using depo for the last one year.. last year October it expired but I bleed for those three months.. after that it didn't stop so I was recommended to take this 21 days pill to balance the hormone.. and it stopped.. then my period came on December 18 and ended 22 .. then it came on 18 of January.. does that mean my hormones are now balanced coz I really needed another baby
Hi, it looks like the balance is returning since you have resumed your natural cycle. I suggest you wait till you have 3 natural cycles before you start actively trying for a baby.

So I’m on my second depo shot and this time I been bleeding dark black brown blood like it’s my period on my second month the first depo shot I spotted for couple of days but it stopped this time it’s longer it sucks cause I want to have sex but it’s embarrassing cause I’m bleeding how can I stop it or how long does it take for it to be gone .
I experienced that and no one seems to have the answer. I took only one shot and haven't stopped since. Be prepared for months of it. When I did it back in my 20s I don't remember experiencing any of this. My period stopped after the first one. 😢

So end of the story, period is day by day for almost a yr? I got the shot 2 wks ago. Been bleeding a week now. Now I’m not even wanting to have intercourse just because of the bleeding. Fyi I’m 44. Got iud taken out because of horrible bleeding. I’ve have an ultra which was normal.

Yeah, I’ve almost had two months now. Was OK for one day but I have no idea. I am not doing this again though. I’m sure not going through getting an IUD lol that was painful.

I can’t afford certain period products I would normally use to not get so sick but I’m not sure what to do anymore as a moving mom pads even sucky ones just don’t help me

Hi, so I was on depo on and off for about 2 years. I ended up having my son after getting off depo. My depo shot last effective date was October 15th. I found out I was pregnant September 11th. Almost a year later I did get my period no later then December 2 months after getting off. I have never bled or cramps before getting pregnant on depo. I have now got on depo again and having light spotting light pink/ brown color. After being on again for a month. Do you know an answer to this ? Am I pregnant again or what’s exactly happening?
Am using family planning injections but my blood becomes black during periods is it normal or abnormal
