So yes, you can wash the inside only, and maybe wipe the outside with a damp towel or a sponge. You can't submerge the thing in water or rinse the outside under the tap. If you put it in a dishwasher it gets flooded, and the wires and contacts of the battery start undergoing electrolysis. Basically the positive connections dissolve in the water, and releases copper juice all over your dishwasher. It's not going to be that much of a contamination, but you still don't want that to happen, not to mention you would have trashed your mug.
Normally in the lab stirrers the rotating mechanism is part of a heater. You put a glass or ceramic beaker on the heater that also generates a rotating magnetic field, and then place the magnetic stir bar inside the beaker. This stirs as well as heats your solution, and you don't have to wash the actual stir mechanism when you're done.
