I saw the show when it was in previews & everyone in the cast was fantastic. It is so good to see how Ashley Banjo has improved with his singing & confidence in musical theatre since then. It is also great to see how much they have all now really relaxed & fully settled into their individual roles. Jason Manford is the 'poifect' cowardly lion with a phenomenal singing voice. Ben is a talented puppeteer who gives Toto life & character as well as allowing him to sing, 'speak' & dance! It is a tribute to his talent that children believe he is a real dog & Ben is just there to stop him running away, but even as an adult you almost forget he is there (as you do in Avenue Q ) if you really invest in it. Ashley & Louis are both very strong skilled dancers, with the latter being a "triple threat" who previously played Bert in Mary Poppins. Georgina is a fantastic Dorothy with a beautiful singing voice, but for me... she looked too old for the role, as Dorothy is meant to be 12! Add to that the always wonderful Gary Wilmot as the Wizard, Multi talented Di Pilkington as the Wicked Witch, & Christina Bianco (an incredible impressionist) as a 'Barbie pink' Glinda on a moped plus an amazing supporting cast & this is a show that deserves a much longer run than just summer 2023!
OMG NO BUT IT WAS HAPPING AGAIN BUT THE BLUE DRESS GIRL BUT IT WAS STARTING TO SING SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW O M G. AND MY HEART IT JUST DROPPED AND R. I. P. JUDY GARLAND WAS THE ORGINAL ACTRESS BEHIND DOROTHY
Bless your heart… Toto is a puppet and the performer holding said puppet is a master puppeteer and no, there is no other way to make a puppet do puppet stuff without a puppeteer puppeteering puppet stuff.
I personally never warm to musical theatre singing like this. It’s technically good but lacks the heart of the singing in the movie . This type of theatre singing is always too contrived for me .
Leave history as is the world 🗺 over and yes for sure diversity inclusion etc rock on always because it's always been included in film TV print etc no one no matter who they are have never been left out if you really really look back
Why don’t they train real dogs for the show like they did in the movie…a puppet doesn’t seem right…they have trainers who take care of the dogs welfare so animal activists don’t kick up trouble. Trouble is all the classics nowadays have to have a modern take and be reimagined but it ruins the originals IMO…Otherwise it was good.
I think all the noise and the lighting etc would spook the dog tbh. In Annie the musical, they only had the dog for a few little scenes and didn’t have much of a role, the dog wasn’t with Annie for most of the show.
I have nothing against diversity and inclusion, however these entire movements of people crying out to be included in everything is getting out of hand. The wizard of oz leave the original parts alone, The Wiz I have nothing against because it's cast are all very beautiful people of color, but please come on.
There have been so many versions of this production though and most iterations are copy and paste. Why can’t some of them be diverse and different and new? It opens up the story to a wider audience. It’s a musical so ultimately if they’ve got an incredible set of pipes then it doesn’t matter what colour they are.
@@johncooper705 very well said, however it definitely doesn't go well with what we all grew up seeing, not that I pr others have anything against color or diversity. Just like the Lil mermaid ummmm no.
It doesn’t change what you grew up seeing in any way shape or form. Those versions still exist. They represented a time, casting now represents a time.
I have to admit it but I did think at the start, 'why is that guy holding onto the dog?' lmao
And look there’s a puppeteer working with the movement of Dorothy’s dog

I think the puppeteer was brilliant!
Because it’s cruel and unnecessary to have animals performing, in stressful environments.
Wizard of Woke.
this production looks so BAD no thank u
