    You might consider installing a gravity roller conveyer on the ground that is at least four totes long. One half of the conveyor is located at the fill position. The second half extends out into the woodyard. When two totes in the fill position are full, push the two of them out of the way manually in a single move, and then drop two empty totes into the fill positions. While you begin filling the new totes, Chris on the tractor approaches the filled totes at 90 degrees to the conveyor, lifting each tote once on its way to the storage yard.

      I use roller conveyors for a bunch of my firewood operation, they will not work for filling due to the amount of splitter trash created and where it falls. Big open rollers might work but then you would have a lot more cleaning to do, also harder to do with rollers in the way. I use long conveyors and dump into tall stacks to dry. I then hand load onto a conveyor that dumps into a dump trailer for deliver. This also eliminates any trash in the trailer. I have totes too but they are mostly used for scrap/ crap wood, bundle wood and cookies that end up in my boiler.

    Chris was ALL smiles today!!! Must have been at least four genuine smiles and even a laugh 😉😊 Having a clean and organized workspace may be "OCD", but in reality, it is "Safety," "Quality," and "Productivity." You would be way slower if you sprain an ankle tripping over a mess!! Looking at productivity and efficiency is always a good thing, but at the same time, you also should be enjoying the work as much as you can too! Nice to see the shade cover by all of your gorgeous hardwood trees in the woodyard! Stay safe and keep up the great work and videos!!

    I have a thought for the wood that overshoots the totes. Take one of the parts cut out of a tote. Cut out the bottom row of horizontal tubes, leaving the vertical tubes as legs. As the wood starts accumulating, stick it at the end to give extra height to the end. You will obviously need one for each tote.

      Never thought to make a “backboard” for the totes, I can try that!

    The second full tote to be moved away from the conveyor should go toward the deer stand to offer the most efficiency.

    Good splitting there. I've had my 22-28 for exactly one week now and felt I was familiar with it right from the start from watching your videos. I tried two IBC's like you did and really like the results. The closest tote was filling first, so I sped up the conveyor and it was just right. I also did a 1/3rd cord with the six way and was at 5:43 minutes. Made a video and if you are bored check it out and give me some tips!! I am thick skinned so fire away.

      Nice! Congrats on the new machine, I’m glad you’ve found my videos helpful in acquainting yourself with the splitter! How did you go about speeding up the conveyor?
      Edit: Ah I see you have a standalone conveyor!

  • @donaldhagen1173

    maybe you could drill holes through a 2x4 and pound stakes through them that you could just slide the totes up against on the processor side

  • @CG-wj4pz
    @CG-wj4pz 26 дней назад

    Make a slide rail skid to put four totes on. Then you could push it over and fill other two. Then move the other two . Then bring two new ones in and set and repeat

    What about a 3 sided insert set atop the totes to keep the wood from falling out. Transfer from tote to tote save time picking stuff up?

    I've had my 22-28 a few years now and every time somebody lets the chips pile up under the splitter and beside it too long, something breaks. I'm not sure what's it's doing under there, but leaving the chips under the splitter will eventually break the orange circle tang that holds the blue wedge lift tool. Somehow, mine is broken 2x now. Always with chips under the splitter. So now it gets cleaned out daily. I started out splitting into the totes as well, but after one season of people complaining about scrap, we had to switch it up. Per 4 baskets, they were getting a wheelbarrow, maybe 2 of scrap. I split through everything, knots, stump cuts, shorts, and everything goes. So we have even more scrap then you do. I switched to the 12 way to full time. It's even faster than the box wedge. Pieces aren't as consistent when you get into big wood but you can't beat one pass it's done. Certain wood sizes you can literally feed it as fast it will cycle with great splits. I see probably the same amount of scrap than the boxwedge so no real difference on that end. Goodluck

    Good job , how about just staking down 3- 4X4 timbers with rebar in the position you want to the ground and be done, no looking down to fine any whiskers ? Pull the totes out, in with the new ones ?

    • @DudeRanchDIY
      @DudeRanchDIY  21 день назад +1

      I’ve thought about this but the totes actually vary slightly in size depending on the brand, the whiskers allow more maneuverability for me to center them and account for slight variations in the totes themselves.

    The 2 Tote Method Works Okay, But a 3rd or 4th person will make production a lot Easier like a 3rd person can use your tractor to lift the IBC TOTE full of wood where it can dry for next season, the 4th Person can put an empty tote next to the tote your currently Splitting with the conveyer, Would that be a good idea for You and Chris,
