Another good and informative video. Very well done with a good explanation of why everything happens the way it does.
THANKS DIETER!!! I really dig your videos, very well done, but I wasn’t able to comment.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS thats a YouTUBE deal, not me. Hopefully they will get that fixed one day. Looking forward to the next notification of a new video from you....
Dieter Melhorn Fishing Ah. Gotcha. Yes sir! I look forward to seeing yours as well!
Thank you very much Mike. I’m a 61 year old man and don’t even own a large boat. Most of my Striper fishing will be on the beach or small fresh water lakes from a Jon boat. Your info helps everyone looking to catch stripers anywhere. Keep up the great work. We greatly appreciate you. Jeff S.
Thank you Jeff!! I really appreciate that brother!
Right on! Caught 30+ till they leave in December sometimes into January. I'm all by myself most days.
👍👍👍
Do you live in the Eastern shore area?
Glad to see them go back in the water.
🙏🙏👍
👍from a Patomac river boy! Thanks for the light demo bro. Going to look!
Sweet!! 😁😁👍👍
This is super helpful. I'm going to start hitting the eastern shore in my kayak. The cape charles and kiptopeke area is where I will start. First time fishing the bay! Super excited.
Awesome!! Go catch em all brother!
Thanks Mike cant wait they will be on the move soon headn north
Adam Raymond Me too! I’m RIGHT behind them when they do. 😁
Hey Mike, I'm a massive fan of the channel. I'm heading down to the Chesapeake Bay for a week. This vid was extremely helpful. I hope to catch tank on my new Striper Stealth rod! 🙂 Keep the content coming. 👍
Thanks brother!!!
Great video! Love the drag screaming!
Thanks brother!!
Mike, when I go for the big girls, I always hit up the same spots. Walmart, Denny's, Planet Fitness (only right after the new year), Hobby Lobby, and trailer parks. 60% of the time it works every time!
YES!!!!!! 🤣
Never disappointed here. I ALWAYS learn something of genuine value. 🙏🏾
ST Richards Thanks so much brother!! I really appreciate that!!
Awesome mike as always everyone please let the big girls go please!!!!!!!!!!
👍
Mike the perun light from olight with the magnetic headband is a great light. Good for hands free.
Great job Mike your right about that olight there good only flash light I use now .Thanks for the tips.
That’s awesome brother!! I really appreciate that!!
It's all about just being on the water
Truth.
Another great video. Big fish are still being caught. Supposed to be a warm front next week, hopefully will keep them around a little longer.
I had a feeling they would still be around. I haven’t been back, but probably worth a few more trips. I caught them on eels into February before. Caught them jigging further up in March. Residents. 10-20lb fish.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS We catch them end of March early April. Way up the James close to the fall line. Catch lots of 5-10lbs but we have caught them pushing 40lbs.
Great information! If you could do a video on how you would fish one of the TVA lakes in TN, that would be awesome!
Absolutely! I’m doing a few lakes next! Most of the lakes in the south hold very similar patterns. I’m covering the entire year for the lakes. Thanks brother!!
Mike Smedley , thanks so much. Looking forward to it.
I can do Cherokee. Can I mention your name in the video? Give you credit for the idea.
Mike Smedley , of course. Thanks again
I think you should come north and try your hand at the Hudson River striper migration. I'm sure you'd have alot of fun with it.
stripedbassnut We fish the Raritan a lot actually. I’ll do a chart video on it soon. 👍👍
That drag pulling out is the best sound in the world
COULD NOT AGREE MORE BROTHER!!!!
Wow!! Appreciate all your work.
I would say its a pretty good video, but I would be wrong. Its actually a GREAT video!
Thank you sir!!
Great info. Mike.
Thanks brother!! Glad you like it!!
Del Mar Va it’s so full of heavenly spots....I do love Hungers Creek can’t burn any spots there’s so many....Fish on
Amen!! It really is MASSIVE. Over 90% of the Striped Bass from NC to Maine have been hatched in the Chesapeake Bay. That’s crazy when you think about it.
Thank you for that. I learned so much from this video. We fish that area
Heck yeah!!! Glad you dig it!!!
Fish are chasing food. Peanut bunker, eels and even spot are migrating out of the bay. Resident fish are follwiing bait down out of northern bay rivers, the ocean stripers havea funnel of bait coming out of the bay.
Love the info once again, just might make a east coast trip later this fall..the info on hooking a shad in anal area was spot on ,first rod that went down last week while in Oklahoma was the one hooked in lower anal tail area!!! Awsome outcome!!!!
Awesome!!! Thanks for letting me know brother!! 👍👍🙏
Awesome video brother appreciate the info 🤘👍
You know it brother!! 😁😁
Great video. Mike that is a great light . I'm wondering if my radio with usb port will charge it?
When the water temperature it's warm most fish moves very slowly .they only start getting active again from 12am to 5am. That's when the water temperature drops .only in summer time.
Awesome video Mike!! I’m in Southern Md, Solomon Island area where I troll for the Migrate Fish. I use Planner Boards and Artificial Lures. However, can I use this method?? Thanks again for sharing!!
Excellent video! 🎣
Thanks brother 😁👍
Hi, Mike. In the video you said you'd do one of these covering Raritan Bay. I can't find it. Could you share a link? Thanks.
Hey Frank. I shot it, but never edited it for some reason 🤪. It really is amazing how incredibly similar the two videos are between the Raritan and the Chesapeake. You can honestly mix and match almost.
Mike I like your explanations for how to use everything. I have been watching a lot of your videos on planer boards and am going to have to give those a try. But I am interested in learning more about your rod holders you are using that hold up to 4 rods on each unit. Are those custom made or are they clamp on items.
Thanks brother. The rod holders themselves are Ce Smith adjustables.

Thanks for the information, So basically I live and fish too far north. I fish at kent narrows, kent island, Annapolis, bay bridge, choptank Cambridge. So mike I'm just asking should I fish closer to cobb island, solomons island, point lookout area or is that still too far north? My largest rockfish has been 25 pounds THAT'S IT! I can't seem to catch anything larger than that. So from watching your video I assume I'm catch native rockfish that never leave the bay. Please respond also great informative video
The largest biomass of migrating fish will definitely be closer to the mouth of the bay during the winter. I have some friends that have caught big girls way up by you in Spring, they DO come up there to spawn, but you would use tactics that involve going way shallow after the biggest girls.
Mike Smedley ok thanks mike for the information I will try that next spring
Think VERY shallow in spring.
Cool stuff.
Thanks brother!!
Good tip bro
Rob Farnam Thank you brother!!!
Lots of 40 and 50 pounders being caught right now all around the Bay Bridge.
Git em!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍😁😁😁
Mike what is the max amount of line you let out behind the planer? Is the goal to be close to the bottom with your eel or does it depend on where and when your fishing.
It definitely varies but not a whole lot. These bigger fish are up off the bottom. Sometimes I only put 4-5 feet behind the board, most of the time I set 12-20 feet out. 👍
Thank you.
Great video! Whats the hottest time of year in that area? Now?
Thanks. Right now actually! 👍
How do you keep your Eels alive? Do you put them on ice or keep them in a bait tank? Great video btw.
Thanks brother. Here ya go! ruclips.net/video/sSfe2SkjPw4/видео.html
Can you please do this for the Long island sound
Definitely. I have only personally fished it a dozen times or so, but I got some great intel. Quite a few buddies fish it regularly. I will get one done for you ASAP. I will also be doing the spring time migration videos for each bay. 👍👍👍. Thanks for the comment!
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS thanks man I go up once or twice a year have very bad luck catching stripers we're out of Stratford Connecticut I haven't caught a striper in 3 years, I live in fort Lauderdale I will be getting a center console in the next 2 or 3 years
nakai swilling That sound can be tricky.
This video was on the sound. ruclips.net/video/3_g1CUad5T8/видео.html
Mark Garry (Kid Cochiese) knows his stuff over there. This video was from when we did the Soldiers on the Sound. An event that Mark put on. We only Striper fished one tide so he told us where to go and we had an epic day! Also with eels. Drop him a comment on one of his vids. Tell him I sent you. He can help you out some. He would be happy to talk.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS thanks man I'll do that I have him in my, on my RUclips also
Do you use glass beads on your leader in fresh water lakes?
Yea sir.
Where do I get one of these maps Mike?
I got them from Amazon.
What is the model # of the flash light I’m trying to find it on the website??
Warrior X Pro. Use coupon code MS10 for a discount. 👍👍
DO U THINK ITS KOOL 4 ME 2 PUT MY BASS BOAT ON THE CHESAPEAKE BAY ??? 18 FOOTER 🤔? 🤔?
You would REALLY have to pick your days carefully. It can get NAUTICAL out there quick. There are lots of great creeks that hold lots of big fish that a Bass boat would be fine in.
U do charter fisbing ?
Not anymore. Videos take all of my time these days. 👍
To be clear. A good spot will always do better if stays secret
What's too hot??
I fish the Piscataqua river in New Hampshire and the water is in the high 60s right now. And not a whole lot cooler at the mouth. Where should I be fishing roughly?
In spring saltwater they start to leave when water hits mid 70’s. They will stay a little longer if there is a lot of bait but not too much longer.
Fish are coming out of the rivers so I would fish the mouths.
same same. different, but same same
Yep!
Striped ass. Haha
Awesome mike as always everyone please let the big girls go please!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks brother!!
