The regular dress maker tape is the one that is ideal if there is no heart girth tape. It is flexible and the units are in inches just as on the regular hearth girth tape. The same method is done for pigs but you would divide by 400. The 300 is for ruminants so it is used even for cattles

The method is called the heart Girth method.Its quite a prooven method to get a near accurate estimate of the weight using key body measurements of the animal and applying the standard formula given. a heart girth formula may be used for other animsls using measurements soecific to that animal species.Look it up
