Due to their use of thrust vectoring in all axis, Russian 4th and 5th (arguably 4.5) gen fighters are the only modern fighters who can exhibit post-stall yaw control, allowing the maneuver that was used to dodge the missile that Mav and Goose fired at him. You both are so wholesome. Great reaction! I just watched this movie for the first time the other day, so I'm glad to get to watch this again with you guys.
Such a great reaction and such an amazing movie! The amusing thing for me that almost no one seems to get is that Hangman is Maverick as he would have been if he had been flying one of the typical single-seat fighters instead of the two-seat F-14s used in the original Top Gun. The main thing that kept Maverick from being what Hangman was is that Mav always had Goose, who was his conscience in some ways, riding brakes on Mav's worst impulses and making them not so bad. Mav was responsible to and for Goose, and since Goose was his only family Mav usually held himself in check so he wouldn't let Goose down. Hangman didn't have a back seater to be responsible to and for, so he could go all out to prove he was the best he could be and better than everyone else, which justly earned him his callsign: because he'd always hang you out to dry to prove you weren't as good as he was. Luckily, and thankfully, Hangman learned the important lesson about teamwork through Mav, who uniquely understood Hangman's driven personality. Hangman's character development was a very well done part of the movie too. In an early script, Hangman was to be Ice's son. I'm glad they scrapped that. In the F-18 scenes, professional military pilots were doing the actual flying, but the back seat cockpits were set up to look like the real thing. The tech advances for getting us inside the cockpit with the actor were amazing! And the actors had additional duties to their usual acting as they had to test and make sure the cameras were set and focused properly, that their makeup was good, and that the shots were as near perfect as possible. The director had the toughest time since all he could do was stand around and wait until the day's flying was done, then collect all the day's filming out of the onboard camera systems and take it to watch for the first time then and make notes for the next day's flying. The actors actually had to go through an intensive training program to prepare them for flying in the fighters. I imagine there was some vomit hosed out of the cockpit after some of those maneuvers. Even though the actors, from what I remember, were never taken above 4G, that's nothing to sneeze at. Especially over time. I know the Fury 325 roller coaster at Carowinds near where I grew up in Charlotte, NC is said to max out at around 4Gs, that's just for a short period of time. The WWII plane Cruise was working on at the beginning and flying at the end of the movie is his own personal plane that he is licensed to fly. He took members of the cast and crew up in it for fun in between work. That had to be a blast. Val Kilmer, of course, had been fighting throat cancer in real life, but it was important to have him in this movie and he wanted to be there. His voice in the scenes was a programmed synthesized voice, but it was perfectly his voice as it might be. It was so good to see them as such close friends, and to know that Ice had constantly been Mav's guardian angel, keeping him in the service no matter what Mav did to get himself dismissed. And it showed a lot of how well Ice really understood Mav, and explains a lot of Mav's behaviors in the early movie. Mav is basically suicidally depressed when the movie starts, but he's not the suicidal type, so he looks for situations where he can go out doing what he does best, but he fights to survive anyway because that is his nature. Ignoring how he feels (typical man, I know) he focuses on something else that he can control: flying. All Mav has is the service. He has no family. Even Goose's family he's not close to, though we only learn why as the movie advances. The Navy and the people he works with, best shown in Hondo, are the only family he has. So he pushes beyond Mach 10 because the project is going to be shut down and he'll lose the team/family he's been working with and, knowing as he does that Ice has been fighting cancer, he is aware that his long-term guardian angel might not be able to keep him where he needs to be. His time is running out, and he's well aware of that, so if he stays in pure Maverick mode and pushes juuust a bit more, and a bit more again, then maybe he can go out doing what he loves before that is taken away from him too. So he does. But he survives. And his guardian angel is still able to shift him back to someplace he needs to be. And, whether this was Ice's grand plan knowing who all from Pete's history was there or not, Mav ends up where he needs to be to reestablish a will to live beyond the military. Reestablishment of his old family with Rooster. Rediscovery and, much more importantly, a new appreciation of an old flame (mentioned but never seen in the original movie). And suddenly Mav has every reason to not die in the cockpit. So, of course, he must go and do something that could very easily make him die in the cockpit. In a Hollyweird full of shallow and dull movies and shows with shallow, poorly done scripts and no actual thought behind them and shallow, unrealistic characters who only change in shallow ways if at all, a movie of this great depth made me so happy to see. I can watch it again and again and love it still. So very well done. For all the concerns I've had for Tom Cruise's weirdnesses in the past, he is absolutely a glorious hero for making this movie happen.
Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood was the name of the love interest in the first one. The love interest in this one is Penny "the admiral's daughter" Benjamin which is a reference to a scene in the first Top Gun movie, when the commanding officer is raving at Maverick and Goose before sending them to Top Gun.
This movie was the only one in recent memory that made me feel something positive about my country. It's the only one that made any attempt at that national feeling.
Probably 100 people have commented this, but the other pilot wasn't so talented as he was flying a fighter that was 30+ years newer. Thanks both of you for sharing the movie. You are really good. :)
You'll be pleased to know a third one is officially in development, which doesn't guarantee it will be made, but it does increase the likelihood of a release sometime between now and the end of the decade
42:38 Glen Powell (Hangman) also portrayed a real life Korean War naval aviator named Tom Hudner in the movie Devotion. In that film his character Hudner was in a similar situation having to provide air cover for a downed pilot from his squadron.
When you think about it, Hangman was a lot like Maverick and Rooster was more like Iceman (and of course Goose). I think Maverick chose Rooster because of this. Hangman was talented, fearless, cocky and seemed like he wasn't a team player; yet proved he was by saving the day in the end. I loved Phoenix in this movie. She was actually the best pilot, and she knew everyone's strength's and weaknesses.
The enemy pilot that performed a crazy maneuver was not a maverick 2.0. The enemy fighter jet is a newer generation fighter that has way more maneuverability than the f-18. The enemy fighter jet has thrust vectoring which allows for extremely tight turns which is why he was able to swing back and get on their tail extremely fast.
Another thing they got right in this movie is not making the enemy a particular country. It's all about teamwork, love, forgiveness, pride, humility etc. The enemy isn't really the story.
Love this reaction! This really was a great sequel. As much as they mirrored the first one it really shouldn't have turned out this good but it really all works without being corny. Thank you guys!!!
The other girl is about 70 now . I’m sure they needed a lil younger actress to play the love interest this time to make it realistic😉They do mention Penny in the last movie but she was never shown .
I noticed that one too. The first one specifically said "the trophy for the alternate is in the Ladies room" saying there are no women at Top Gun at that time
32:39, despite his reckless nature Maverick is an awesome pilot. Look at all of the medals and ribbons on his chest. He may never make Admiral, but dude has been doing the job!!
The move you never saw before is courtesy of 5th Generation aircraft with design and electronics that make it capable of maneuvers never-before possible. The Navy was a lot more open this time with footage of the aircraft.
Actually Maverick had three promotions from the rank of Lieutenant to Captain (Equivalent to Colonel in Army). While Iceman rose to the highest rank...A 4-star full Admiral and ultimately became commander in chief of US Pacific fleet meaning he was the head of whole US Navy in the Pacific Ocean and also the Indian ocean.

30:06 yea he passed out because he was pulling 8/9 plus G's which multiplies the weight of you head times for example 9gs is 9x your heads weight. Great reaction 🔥🔥
47:34 Well you gotta remember he was flying a 5ᵀᴴ gen jet and all we’ve seen our guys flying are 4ᵀᴴ gen jets, those newer jets are insanely more capable than the older ones. (And tbh if I had the guess, probably a big reason as to why they chose to have them using 4ᵀᴴ gen instead of American 5ᵀᴴ gen jets is because it’d cost SIGNIFICANTLY more to film a movie with the 5ᵀᴴ gen ones vs the 4ᵀᴴ gen ones.)
A little trivia. In the first Top Gun, Maverick rode a Kawasaki GPZ 900R or simply Ninja 900, which was one of the fastest motorcycles on the market at that time. After the movie, the company saw a huge spike in sales for that bike. In this movie, he is on the Kawasaki Ninja H2R, which is one of the fastest motorcycles on the market today.
This movie paid tribute to the first film. Tom Cruise wouldn’t film this movie without Val Kilmer. Maverick and Ice characters are legends. Great reaction girls.
Because of nostalgia (the first Top Gun came out when I was a teenager), I will likely always love the original more, but this is the objectively better film. Great reaction as always, Ladies. Cheers and salutations from Canada. 🥃☮❤
Great reaction. I am a 14 year US Navy Veteran, it would be cool if yall could react to real Military vids from all branches but me being bias, Aircraft Carriers and Pilots that fly from them. Real Life Top Gun Pilots.
"Put that in your Pentagon budget" that's his career down the pan. The little boy in the diner only said one word but it made the right impact. Remember though a navy captain is the equivalent of an army full colonel. So for all his disobeying orders he's not doing too badly. Hangman's face when Maverick is introduced renders words unnecessary. Considering the deck crew on the carrier are not actors but serving sailors doing the job they are trained for they deserve respect for that. Miles Teller plays his part part so well, that said so do the rest of the cast.
there is a theory going around that is not confirmed or denied by the director of the movie. All he said was that he likes the theory when heard about it. The story goes that nobody who ejects at mach 10 (thats 12348km/h or 7672,69miles/h) is going to survive that. So in this Theory Maverick dies in that prototype plane. And all we see as the rest of the movie is playing out in his mind in the last split seconds before death - he going on a final impossible mission, paying Iceman a last visit and coming to terms with Gosses Son. All those loose ends that he had no time to resolve , he resolves for himself in his final moments.
41:40 - These "fireworks" are called flares. There are 2 types of counter-measures, "flares" and "chaff". Flares are used for heat-seeking missiles as they burn hotter than the engines. So they throw off the missile by producing a bunch of heat sources. Chaff is made up from hundreds of pieces of metal that sprays out like confetti. Chaff is used for radar-guided missiles.

A good movie is when you don't want it to end.

Just like a GOOD relationship,huh ??? Or a GOOD job ????
My nephew is a Air Force top gun pilot very proud of him
This movie was the only one in recent memory that made me feel something positive about my country. It's the only one that made any attempt at that national feeling.
Probably 100 people have commented this, but the other pilot wasn't so talented as he was flying a fighter that was 30+ years newer.
Thanks both of you for sharing the movie. You are really good. :)
The maneuverability of 5th generation fighters is amazing they have thrust vectoring
You'll be pleased to know a third one is officially in development, which doesn't guarantee it will be made, but it does increase the likelihood of a release sometime between now and the end of the decade
You two are just the sweetest.
I wasn’t even a huge fan of original and this still got me when I saw it. Saw it 4 times. One of the best sequel’s ever!
OMG you said Punani shenanigans, would that mean Punanigans? Lol
Hi Jyn Ryl , thanks for watching Top Gun Maverick your reaction was the best😇🛩✈️
We appreciate you 💜
@@JynxRyl thx I appreciate both of you to !!!! ❤❤
The enemy plane was a 6th generation fighter with trust vectoring which is what allows for him to do that maneuver.
Really enjoy you two!
Much love from Baltimore MD!
Who the heck is George?!?! Lol. You guys are too awesome. That was fun.
Another thing they got right in this movie is not making the enemy a particular country. It's all about teamwork, love, forgiveness, pride, humility etc. The enemy isn't really the story.
Nice one, Lades! Such a good movie, isn't it? Thank you for sharing both of these films with us. I enjoyed rewatching them with you. 🙂
What a great review! And the Su-57 “Felon” really does that maneuver. Called a Kvochur’s Bell. Look forward to watching more!
I told you in the comments of the first one to remember Penny Benjamin the Admirals daughter 😊
We had already recorded Top Gun Maverick when you made that comment.
I read somewhere that Cruise insisted Kilmer be in this movie. I think that's awesome.
My sons and I must have watched this every weekend for like 3 months. Such a cool movie.
Match 10 is like 10xSonic speed ;)
🔥🔥
One of few great sequels. 💯💯💯👏👏👏 love your channel and enjoy the movie.
💜💜
Love this reaction! This really was a great sequel. As much as they mirrored the first one it really shouldn't have turned out this good but it really all works without being corny. Thank you guys!!!
Great reaction. "Get over it" 🤣
😂😂👍🏾
You're thinking of Bizarro world Top Gun starring Gaverick and Moose 😆
When you're on the highway to the danger zone you know ish is about to get real.
The other girl is about 70 now . I’m sure they needed a lil younger actress to play the love interest this time to make it realistic😉They do mention Penny in the last movie but she was never shown .
😆👍🏾
Note that the opening card mentions 'men and women'
I noticed that one too. The first one specifically said "the trophy for the alternate is in the Ladies room" saying there are no women at Top Gun at that time
32:39, despite his reckless nature Maverick is an awesome pilot. Look at all of the medals and ribbons on his chest. He may never make Admiral, but dude has been doing the job!!
The move you never saw before is courtesy of 5th Generation aircraft with design and electronics that make it capable of maneuvers never-before possible. The Navy was a lot more open this time with footage of the aircraft.
Phoenix ❤
💜💜
MVP of the movie was Phoenix
Actually Maverick had three promotions from the rank of Lieutenant to Captain (Equivalent to Colonel in Army).
While Iceman rose to the highest rank...A 4-star full Admiral and ultimately became commander in chief of US Pacific fleet meaning he was the head of whole US Navy in the Pacific Ocean and also the Indian ocean.
Penny was the admirals daughter that goose’s wife referenced in the first movie.
Great reaction! I flew attack helicopters in combat and now fly jets. When he said you have no one to mourn you when you burn in hit home…I’m single with no wife or kids…
My two favorite lines: Earth. Nice.
Every reaction I just want to hug Ryl, and I feel like if I tried the same with Jyn I'd get punched in the face immediately. This is why you're a good duo.
Hahaha 😂 you’re so spot on 👍🏾💜
Jyn would have enjoyed being in the military. In fact I feel jyn would thrive in there.
Facts 🔥
I love the movie, I love your regret that you 'watched it too soon,' and I love two. I don't enjoy all the movies you react to, but I always enjoy your reactions. Your special bond, your intelligence and your sense of humor are all 'Top Gun' level. Keep 'em coming, please!
, i
33:57 Girls that's real flight, not Tom, but a military pilot
Still one of if not the best sequel I’ve ever seen
"Moose?"
"George?"
"Goose!"
"What happened to the woman who took his breath away?"
😂😂😂
30:06 yea he passed out because he was pulling 8/9 plus G's which multiplies the weight of you head times for example 9gs is 9x your heads weight. Great reaction 🔥🔥
Great reaction!
Lmao moose...she called him MOOOOSE 😂
Beautiful, First time watching, nice job 😉
This movie paid tribute to the first film. Tom Cruise wouldn’t film this movie without Val Kilmer. Maverick and Ice characters are legends. Great reaction girls.
Because of nostalgia (the first Top Gun came out when I was a teenager), I will likely always love the original more, but this is the objectively better film.
Great reaction as always, Ladies. Cheers and salutations from Canada. 🥃☮❤
Great reaction, Peggy was there name of the Admiral's daughter he was getting yelled at in the Original Top Gun.
Great reaction. I am a 14 year US Navy Veteran, it would be cool if yall could react to real Military vids from all branches but me being bias, Aircraft Carriers and Pilots that fly from them. Real Life Top Gun Pilots.
Up there with the best of the best. I feel the need, the need for speed. End quote Maverick.
💜
Well , the story continues, Paramount anounced that Part 3 is on the drawing board.
Bout time!! Just kidding! 😁 26:40 if he did smell it from that far away he should run for the hills!
Haha 😂😂
41:40 - These "fireworks" are called flares. There are 2 types of counter-measures, "flares" and "chaff". Flares are used for heat-seeking missiles as they burn hotter than the engines. So they throw off the missile by producing a bunch of heat sources. Chaff is made up from hundreds of pieces of metal that sprays out like confetti. Chaff is used for radar-guided missiles.
i went to go watch it but it disappeared but now its back, good stuff lets go
🔥🔥
@@JynxRyl maybe im cynical but i suspect the reason they didnt bring back the love interest from the first movie is she is now too old to be tom cruise's love interest in a movie, as stupid as that sounds. fun watch though thanks guys virtual hug
I adore u you two so much..” remember they were kissing with their souls “…..😂☺️
Mission Impossible Fallout is an outstanding recent Tom Cruise flick
Virtual hugs!
💜
In memory of Tony Scott- he directed "Top Gun" and was a big part of this epic franchise. No longer with us.
You should read up on Val Kilmer's (Iceman) current health. It makes the fact he was able to be in the movie even more special and moving.
So, Penny's daughter isnt gonna notice Maverick's motorcycle sitting right in front of the house???
