      @71kakarot 4 года назад +8

      @@propertyguru6276 I disagree. A lot of people sell things that they just want to get rid of for really cheap. Not everyone is going to look up the market price of whatever they are trying to sell. Although I can agree that it is a clue that what you are buying might be stolen, that in no way makes the buyer guilty by itself.

      Plus it's often pointless, unless you have proof the police most likely won't try and even if they do they can only do so much. For example my phone got stolen out of the break room at work, I didn't call police because the chance of recovery is so low just cut the losses.

    • @danmitchell6126
      @danmitchell6126 7 лет назад +1

      Also depends how they're defining robbery. When I think of the word I picture stuff like getting jacked for something or burglaries, not so much pettier stuff like getting a bike stolen. I'm still surprised at that number though, whichever way they're defining it. If they're counting stolen bikes and trailers as part of the thousand, I find that number _way_ too low.

      If the circumstances that you came to be into possession of the stolen property would lead a "Reasonable Person" to believe that the item is "Hot" then you can be prosecuted! Example: "This guy I don't know sold me this $1500 laptop for $100 and he was unable to provide the receipt, box it cam in, or any paperwork, and all the identifying information on the computer did not match the seller." A reasonable person would believe that the laptop was not the sellers, and thus is most likely stolen. The problem lies with the Prosecuting Attorneys office, not the cops! If the DA refuses to prosecute PSP cases (possession of Stolen Property), people no longer fear buying it!

    • @che3se1495
      @che3se1495 5 лет назад

      Mork 666 If you're buying second hand goods you have a responsibility to reasonably check if the goods are stolen. If it's a vehicle you should ask for papers proving ownership, bicycle registration can be checked against a database, etc.
      Of course it isn't always possible, a washing machine or a push chair isn't going to have such documentation. But you should always get a receipt as well, else they can take the stolen goods and not give you any money in return.

      @scottfirman 7 лет назад

      Jane Doe What I do is a hobby,nothing more. I take junk,fix it and sell it to support a hobby,its not a business. It doesnt support me,its not an income. An income is anything that you use to support your living expences. The IRS isnt going to go after everyone that sells something on Craigslist,unless it is consistant and ammounts to an ammount that sparks their interests. If that were the case,they would have to issue everyone that sold something on Craigslist an id number and a tax form a 1040,or whatever its called when an employer takes money from you and reports it to the IRS. If I sold gross amounts of product then yes,I should be expected to report it. But if I sold something and figured in hours it took to fix it,and the cost of the parts to fix it,I would owe nothing. Especially if you figured depreciated value of the object. If I got a lawn mower and had to sharpen the blade,replace the air filter and change the oil as well as cleanbthe carb,etc, and I sold it for $75, well just the labor alone just ate up my profit. Its a hobby,nothing more. If I added a regular shop charge,then I would have to report that I made nothing on the deal,nothing. Do you see what I am saying? What gives the Government the right to step in and dictate what is or isnt income? I know lots of guys that collect scrap,should they claim it when doing their taxes? They would have to write off expenses on fuel,wear and tear on their vehicle,labor for time invested,and essentually they would claim zero,and the government would be buried in useless paperwork. Not to mention people would stop doing it. Then all that stuff that could have been recycled would just pile up,or worse,dumped in the woods,or left to rot everywhere. So stop preaching about stuff like that. The government gets enough of taxpayers money as it is.

The truck was set to go to auction for a parking violation. I had to do all the leg work including figure out who's race car it was and establish contact before the auction started as the auction company didn't want to listen. End of the day 1 of the 2 race cars is back and the 5 year old kid they stole from now has a smile on his face.

Considers himself a businessman LOL and the cops let him go . He'll be stealing more bikes as soon as they're out of sight and next time he'll not be so lazy . Pros spray-paint them , file off the serial numbers , and maybe swap some simple parts around so it's harder to identify .

      The police are free to leave the communities where people hate them and come here, where we appreciate our law enforcement officials. We even treat our police offices to free lunch if we encounter them at a restaurant.
      You hate them because you had trouble with police? If so, you should reconsider your life choices.
      My sister hates police, especially DUI checkpoints because she loves to drink and drive.
      I like police because they keep my family and I safe from people like my sister.

    Online pawn shop for thieves? Since when does craigslist give out loans on merchandise? What's their interest rates? WTF? This is a prime example how media exaggerates. People act like pawn shops are this evil place with only stolen goods, when in fact less than 1% of items that go through a pawn shop is stolen. Pawn Shops are safety nets to find your items if they happen to be there. People should appreciate them otherwise your shit could be sold on the street or in a bar, at least pawn shops take down your drivers license number and has the info you need if you do find something stolen there.

If this bike was truly his he would have screamed his ass off but he just hands the bike over cause the bike was never his to begin with. Amazing.

    • @GFlCh
      @GFlCh 9 лет назад

      I would hope it's not the end of it (call me naive). If they find some evidence later, they can still arrest him.
      I *am* surprised that the police didn't require him to document how he got the bike, who he got it from, when, where, etc... Although, they may have done this off-camera, or they may require him to give this information later.
      Plus, if the police feel he does this sort of thing on an ongoing basis, they might start building a case against him, or set up some sort of sting to get him.

    • @PerpetuallyVigilant
      @PerpetuallyVigilant 9 лет назад +1

      jj If the item stolen is under $10,000 it is not a felony offense (at least in my state) so its not worth the bogging down of the courts (in their opinion, but I thought they were servants of the people too when I was younger and more naive). Its much easier to get money from "speeders" or working people in society not thieves who make a living off stealing peoples stuff and then selling it. The police and judicial system is profit motivated not justice motivated.

      Like in this guys case he said that he bought the bike, and they wouldn’t just take his word for it. They probably requested more information from him off camera. Who did you buy it from? What’s his name? Contact information? Etc. With that then they can prove that he legitimately did not know that it was stolen. Versus if he had no information at all and he was just in possession of it they could no Who did you buy it from? What’s his name? Contact information? Etc. With that then they can prove that he legitimately did not know that it was stolen. Versus if he had no information at all and he was just in possession of it they they could charge him with possession of stolen property. Because if you think about it all of that Has to go in front of a judge and jury and I have to prove his case.
