    Nice system and well presented. I have been using rainwater for 100% of my household needs for 20+ years. Before my water enters the house it goes thru a 3 stage filtration system. Before drinking or cooking with it it goes thru an aqua-cera filter. Overflow from my household system goes to two 330 Gal. IBC. That is used on the garden.

    Nice setup and nicely demonstrated. Only thing I would suggest is to route your over flow away from the property to avoid any foundation issues and settling of your water tanks.

      100% agree! I have installed a diverter and working on a better solution involving routing the water to a rain garden

    If you drill a 1/4'' hole in the drain cap, it will slowly drain by it's self and you won't have to remove the cap after each rain storm, saw this on other videos.

    Thank you very much, excellent video.
    To prevent debris from entering the tank, it is a good idea to have a larger initial water reception volume. This can be by using a longer pipe or a small receiving tank. In both cases there would be a 1/4" drainage hole.

    look into RV pumps they only activate when the pressure drops on the outlet and are adjustable for psi. i have had really good luck using these for irrigation

    Excellent video thank you so much. I checked out the link to the supplies you used. Did I miss in the video where you used the Twinkle Star sediment filter?

    • @earthnailsandtails
      @earthnailsandtails  11 месяцев назад

      Your right it was not directly mentioned in the video. I have it installed before my pump just incase all my filters don’t catch everything and something winds up in the water supply.

    How has the garden been? Just curious as I also have the same style architecture shingles, does yours have algae protection? Great attention to detail, earned you a sub! 🤙🏼

    How do you keep the overflow from siphoning out the tanks? ThankYou for sharing your setup.

    • @earthnailsandtails
      @earthnailsandtails  9 месяцев назад +1

      Drill a tiny hole in the top of the overflow to act as a siphon break or if you use a large pipe with a shallow overflow like I did it should happen naturally 👍🏼

    Great System! are you at all concerned with the potential chemical leaching from the Asphalt shingles? Im sure its fine but wondering your thoughts

    • @earthnailsandtails
      @earthnailsandtails  Год назад +1

      I think it is a legitimate concern but I think the amount that comes off won’t be that significant for the amount of time the rain actually spends on the roof. The filter systems should prevent any sediment from getting into the totes which could cause more significant leaching

    I see a video of someone using the gray PVC pipe as your gathering off a tin roof . They cut one side of pvc pipe . Put the edging of sheet metal roof into the PVC . Right in the middle of the pipe all the way in the pipe The top side of the pipe catches the water running off the roof bottom side of the pipe let water run to the tank .
    bottom side drains down in the 2 “ PVC pipe . They put straps to hold pipe in place on the roof . Pipe size look like 4” for the guttering . Plum out to 2” going to tank .

    Great system, thanks for sharing this. Just one question , is there any risk of legionella contamintation when the water is heating up in the containers iduring warmer days?
    Would this be an actual concern ?
    Thank you

    • @earthnailsandtails
      @earthnailsandtails  11 месяцев назад

      there is definitely the potential for bacteria. I would not spray this on the plants. use a drip system or apply it directly to the soil 👍🏼

    We use these with epoxy stored 4 high. I bet if you stored them 2 or 3 high, so they are still below your roof. You could get away with less need for a pump.

  • @TenmaFN

    You would have been better off raising the totes about 4 feet off the ground to give the lines gravity pressure, as the lower the water level is in the totes the less pressure you will have at standing height. Your build is pretty stout otherwise.

    • @earthnailsandtails
      @earthnailsandtails  Год назад +1

      That would be a pretty big undertaking and wouldn’t really provide that much head. 30ft yields about 10lbs of pressure. I got myself a transfer pump and it works great

      @@earthnailsandtails Well you are the one that said the flaps ontop were for stopping mesquites and the fine filter on the intake and inlet was for filtering out debris and sediment. So yeh I did watch.
      8:10
      9:45
      11:58
      What I mean is I would have went with fine filters over the 2 tanks back from the inlet tank so that encase the Velcro isn't sealed correctly mosquitos and other bugs still can't get in.
      And if you do have fine filters over the other 2 tanks... well if you said you did I missed it, but I did watch the video.
