  • saddleback.com - When we are in charge of ourselves and left to our own devices, we will only leave damage in our wake. In this message, Kay Warren talks about how when God is in charge of our lives, he will shape us into his image so that we leave blessing in our wake. You will learn how to identify blind spots and create a spiritual practice of self-examination and reflection.

People are binge-watching a lot during the pandemic.....I am binge-listening to this very honest sharing of truth from the Word of God and from Kay's personal journey! It takes courage for any person to be honest and admit imperfection or behaviors we'd rather hide....this can be especially true for a Christian.....we are not perfect, but as we draw closer to God,(Father, Son and Holy Spirit) we can be more truthful about where we struggle AND, God meets us where we are and really does help us... I know!!!!! "This is Me!" Thank you Kay,

    I've only turned this on.
    Knowing our blindspots is huge.
I didn't, and it really wrecked my life.
This kind of talk is probably the most valuable stuff that Kay and people with a similar platform can talk about.
The value in learning how to behave is huge.
I just think it's far more valuable than the theological stuff.
the piece i would add is to ask would it not be better to work out these blindspots with people and ourselves rather than only looking to God. it just doesn't seem right to be handing these behaviours over to God. Surely we have to address it ourselves fast and hard. Surely.
Also surely we can help others while figuring ourselves out.

Thanks Kay, this message is JUST FOR ME. I'm not ashamed to say that I've got the same problem, a very strong personality and could be very INTENSE believing that I'VE GOT ON PANTS WHEN IN REALITY, I'VE GOT NONE. THAT'S MY BLIND SPOT. And, as you've showed me, the ONLY ONE TO HELP ME MAKE THAT CHANGE IS GOD. So, from this day, I'm going to ask God to help me recognize that BLIND SPOT and show me a different direction so that I do continue to walk in the same OLD DIRECTION OVER AND OVER AGAIN, AMEN!!🙏🙏

Yes, when we are LEFT TO OUR OWN DEVICES, we can indeed stagnate and neglect to grow as we SHOULD. But when GOD is in charge of our lives, we are often disciplined (sometimes through adversity) for our own long-term benefit. "Our sufferings produces perseverance, and perseverance produces character" (Romans 5:3,4). "God disciplines us for our own good - in order that we may share in his holiness" (Hebrews 12:10).

Jimmie Patrum it is good that you recognise you have a beam. That is the first step in getting rid of it.
You cannot get rid of it by just "working on it yourself" because that is warring against it in the flesh.
The holy spirit is the one that does the warring against your beam but how do you get the holy spirit to do the warring? It's not just by praying to God, "please help me" and then live in the flesh again straight after that. The only way to rid yourself of it and overcome it is praying in tongues all of the time you can, maybe hours everyday. I pray in the spirit for up to 8 hours per day and believe me it kills off all sin in your life and totally removes any beams in your eyes. It's the habitual sin that will keep you out of God's kingdom.
It is a war that only the holy spirit can battle

4 things :- (1) I am God's beloved in spite of the stuff marring His image in me. Rom 8:1. (2) look in an accurate mirror, coz of distorted mirror/ image we have, OBEY and Do what has to be done, God's Word is accurate mirror. Rev3:17-19.; (3) Externally - patterns for your behaviour, see where I am not reacting right...(probably a duck) to relate better...So much grace to help to do it...to restore relationship. 5 Qs

I was seeking God for help with anger over being bullied, so this message & the verses & the reminder of our call to become like Jesus was perfect. (It doesn't help me to add the triangle of other people though, because I'm in an unusual situation of severe bullying, where God showed me I am wrongfully attacked. Even worse, I've been trapped in a mess of people using passive/ aggressive, hazing/ harassment, sick, game playing tactics, creating destruction, rather than healthy open communication with care toward positive outcomes & positive relationships. They are content to have non-stop harmful dynamics & destruction, especially since I'm the one who primarily pays the price for it in this situation; {which makes the call to respond like Jesus right on; rather than anger}. So they just harass, yet in 32 years never just reasonably worked together like this sermon talks about, which I tried to ask for, but has never happened... thus the anger... but God has shown me I still must let go of anger). Praise to God. Thank you Lord. Pray for one another. Lord help me... & all in need of your help. Love wins.

With all due respect , Ironically In my opinion, if we genuinely respect, honor, trust and lean on God , he will guide us. If we ask for discernment etc we will receive. I pray for God's guidance more than man. Since most of the word will be deceived , according to the Bible.
Let God root it out, I love this...if only when people see they would be careful not to judge or gossip, because sometimes they only cause the root to take hold even more .
This is very interesting message. Thank you

Kay missed the mark on several points in her talk. About the beam in your own eye and about the "Therefore there is no condemnation", who that relates to because it's not every Christian. It is only those that are actually walking in righteousness but she kind of went down the expected track of "you are saved by grace no matter how much your life is messed up" and that is a lie of the enemy.
If you are habitually sinning then you are nowhere near in a born again state even if you are "born again" technically. Other points I could make also

She didn't miss anything sis. That's a different topic. What she said about we are saved by grace so no matter what we do, God never loves us less - is true. God loves you even as a sinner that's why He wants everyone to be saved. So that we can feel thr fullness of His love and understand His grace. He hates the sin, not the sinner. He knows we are human and we are unable to be holy and can never be holy that's why He sent Jesus.
