  • Motte of Urr, Dumfries, and Galloway. But what is a Motte, and what is this ones story.
This was a completely unplanned visit to the Motte of Urr. I just spotted it whilst passing by. Had to have a closer look. And what a find it was. The site is well worth having a walk around. And what a litte gem, I was very happy to take a wander round theses castle remains, and explore some of the history of the area.

Another great video and explanation !!, was just thinking 2-3 minutes in, that it would be good if you could show some images of how it was, or might have looked like back in the day, and hey presto 4-5 mins in, you delivered, great minds think alike lol.

As a kid in the late 50's I used to visit Loch Urr which it appears was the source of the river flowing past this structure. My parents often visited ancient castles but I never heard of this one. Good presentation and drone shots.

Thank you for watching. I didn't know it was there either until I saw it when passing on the road. It's an area we plan to explore a lot more.

Where do all the stones / rocks come from to build all these castles ? You have a great voice… very clear. Love your pup !

Great question, and thanks for watching. It's amazing to think how much work went into these structures. Much of the stone would come from local quarries. Early buildings would be timber, later replaced with stone structures.
