DVO suspension is the real deal, super plush shock and the fork is amazing. I have it on my Trance and getting ready to put it on my Bronson as well. Your title says Emerald fork, but it is a Diamond fork. The Emerald is their DH fork.
Great Stuff, shows what a higher end fork and shock can do. Good luck with the tweaking practice, seems like you're going to have a lot of fun experimenting with settings and learning. I would say it could be a good idea to keep us in the loop on the settings you thought worked for different terrains you visit. Keep up the great work brother.
Man im so jealous (in positive way) at you because you have money and opportunities to buy and test all those new bike components, here in my country i can only dream about that... But if nothing else im enjoying in your videos ! Happy ride mate :)
I blew up my Rockshox Vivid R2C in less than 1 month. Didn't want to wait for the warranty, and was OK to try something new. Honestly, the DVO Jade blows up my mind. However, the DVO is just perfect all the time. You can feel the difference right away and the sensation stays the same all the time. Forgot to mention I ride an Intense M16C in Vallnord. Thus, I setup my bike as hard as I can. The M16C is blasting fast, but with the Vivid R2C and Fox 40 Float RC2 in the front, the bike is really stable at high speed in steep crazy rough terrain (Vallnord style).
LB Spadluv was your vivid air or coil? I have an air but wet to a dvo jade coil and like the support and small bump compliance. Pedaling uphill it bobs a bit more though.
I love how user-friendly their products are , but I have never tried any of their stuff. I will definitely consider this fork and shock. the axle system looks even better than what Fox use. Great video excellent filming & editing.
Now how much progression do you need again! Lol. Good explanation. To me based on your trail ride, looks like he set the fork a bit on the firmer side. Opposite to the softer fork setup you are used to. With a little more road chatter and slight understeer, but sweet on descending rocky terrain. But like you said the more you ride you can adjust as you like, specially with way more adjustability on both. Btw close facial on that spill. Glad you survived! Cheers
Nice..glad you're happy with the dvo suspension. Personally I think we can get to a point where there are too many adjustments available..not sure if it's all necessary - and I'm a set it and forget it kinda guy. Anyway, I'm glad you're digging the stuff. Sweet.
Brian I don't know if you've changed your settings since this video but in my opinion you are hitting the trails pretty hard lately and could definitely be considered an aggressive rider. Just because you like to keep rubber on the ground doesn't mean you're not riding aggressively. Please try this as I think it'll give you more traction in corners. Add at least 10psi to the fork over what you have in there now and then then increase the OTT. Also add 10psi to the Topaz. VPP bikes can actually feel a little smoother when you add a bit more air. If I'm wrong I apologise in advance but I honestly think you'll be faster and corner with more traction. I'm just trying to help and am no gun rider but a total bike geek.
Hey B I watched your other video when you got back in garage from inner bike. I think after 2 years I finally got my pike dialed in perfectly run 4 tokens and think I got high compression and rebound set dead on for the terrain I try to find ....good luck and don't be scared to ask for help your a good rider but like me not a bike mechanic
I'm a big time suspension nerd with cars, and I've torn apart mountain bike forks before. My problem with the stock matching of the Float 34 and Float w/ AutoSag on my Stumpy is the shock is much more supple on the initial travel than the fork is. At some point, I was probably going to get them reworked or just replace them with something centered around my weight (target is 240 lbs, with a fully loaded CamelBak), rather than something like 160 pounds or so. I like the shock well enough, but I'm sure it could be a lot better if it were made for my weight initially rather than using interlocking spacers.
I was, but they were super heavy and the titanium versions wouldn't support me. I was thinking of the one PUSH makes in house, since I was going to have them modify an old Fox Triad I had on another bike and then figured I'd go with a "PUSH'd" Fox RP23. But if the DVO Topaz could support heavier riders without bumping up against a stock design limit, then swapping spacers and changing pressures on it would be fine. I'll probably just call when I'm ready. :-)
Great Video! I love that even though this video is more technically orientated but you had a nice run at the end. I keep shrugging off the extra setting of the suspension besides the air pressure, but if I want to make the most of it on every ride I should start experimenting now before its too late lol
what's your rebound setting on Topaz? i run about 2-3 clicks (from open) and i think (parking test) that it's still not too fast return.... (my weight is about 78kg with gear)
Yea I spotted that the guy did contradict himself a few times. It should be something like: 'the size of the force acting on the wheel (and suspension) determines if it's relevant to the fast or slow rebound system'.
Hello maybe you could help me!!!??? I was trying to set up the sag on my DVO d1 suspension and noticed that my fork wouldn't even go down on 80PSI and I'm 185lbs. Requiring a 120-130PSI on my fork. Is there anything I need to reset like my high speed compression, OTT and or other adjustments. I released all the air and equalize the pressure every 50psi. Thanks in advance
I love it, it's been solid as hell and tons of fun. I don't know enough about suspension to really articulate the finer points, and I really don't care as long as it's riding the way my bike is riding now!
BK-XC I'm not a very skilled rider as you but I can definitely tell that having your suspension properly tuned is very rewarding. I've helped a few friends (who are experienced riders) to set up their suspensions and their feedback has been that they "didn't know they had such a good bike". They have nice carbon fiber well known brands frames with top suspension components but don't know how to set up the suspension beyond dialing air pressure to get the correct sag. Forks and shocks nowadays have lots of adjustments (air pressure, air volume/progressivity, low speed and high speed compression damping, low speed and high speed rebound damping) that if you don't know how to deal with them you could easily make a dream bike feel crappy. I believe that you are the best person to set-up your own bike if you clearly understand the effect of each of the adjustments mentioned before.
BK-XC I'd suggest you to take notes of all the base settings you already have. Learn a bit more about the effect of each of the settings (reading online sources, manufacturers webpage/product manual, etc.) and then start messing up with them. Do big changes in one setting at a time to feel what you already learned on the effect of each adjustment and go for short ride after every adjustment... go to the extremes (minimum and maximum) on every one of them... then you'll know what you need to adjust to make the suspension to behave as you want it to do. Hope this helps! By the way the DVO components you have looks good!
Just ordered a Ripmo AF, looking forward to trying out that DVO Topaz. I watched this like 3 times and I still don't fully understand what's going on but I'll get there lmao
Wow 13k already, I joined at 2.5k and that was like not even a few months ago, can't wait until you do meet ups and can't wait till you do them in Cali lol
Hey BKXC thank you forPosting this! I have a Commencal AM Meta V4 built up with the DVO Topaz and Diamond. I was frustrated by the owners manual for the Topaz because it didn't talk about the air pressure in the bladder at all! Your video was the first thing I came across giving me some clue to how much air pressure could be in there. Can I ask how much air pressure you're running in the air bladder and how heavy you are? I'm really stoked about DVO I just need to get it dialed in a little better.
I just found this in the downloadable owners manual. Rubber Bladder pressure can be adjusted from 170psi (lighter rider) to 200psi (heavier rider). I hope that helps others who were confused as I was.
Yeah dude, I checked mine last night after my bike sat all winter. I thought it was feeling really squishy. Turns out I only had 65psi in it. I put it up to 190psi and it's like a new bike! It feels alive again. The guy in your video explains this air pressure. "If you were to graph your suspension curve this will move your whole line up or down". If you don't have any spacers, your shock would feel the same all the way through the travel ( a straight line or linear line on a graph). If you add spacers to the positive or negative chambers it changes the way the shock feels in the top and bottom of travel. So adding spacers on one end can make it feel like the shock never wants to bottom out because it gets stiffer the closer you get to the end of the travel. If you were to graph this it would be a curved line. So adding spacers makes a curved line on a graph. From what he explained in the video that air bladder pressure allows you to move the entire line up or down regardless of how progressive or linear you have it set up. From what I understand I think this allows you to run a lower air pressure than you might normally run in the shock and you can add more air pressure to the air bladder to shift your whole line up. Sometimes I like to run more air pressure in the shock but I've noticed if I run to high of air pressure in the shock it takes away from being able to utilize the full length of the travel. Sorry for the long comment. Just hoping others like myself find this helpful. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.
14:56 Brian, after all the places you’ve been and the equipment you have ridden on, would you still consider the DVO to be a viable fork? I’m not in the market for an upgrade yet and my Fox Rhythm 34 is holding up very very well but i have been considering a DVO diamond later on….just to be different of course 😂
Once you get a few more miles on these I'd be interested in knowing how you ended up setting these up. Do you need to tweak them more often? What pressures did you end up with? Geeky stiff like that.
quick question with the fork, do you turn the HSC clockwise to make it soft? the LSC dial seems to be that way... even though the manual says all dials to be anti-clock wise for fully open.
I'm no expert, I really can't articulate anything other than "it was damn good". It's why I need to keep learning and keep feeling out how stuff responds.
If you want a new helmet,Troy lee D3,Fox Rampage Pro Carbon,Poc Cortex &cortex flow, Bell Super 2R are the most popular. but I prefer one peace helmet. Goggle is also a good idea, then you don't get insects dirt or what ever in the eyes,I never die without goggles. my first full face was Fox rampage pro carbon, and it's very comfy & good vented the carbon protects the helmet from small hits so it will not get dents,I crashed once with the bike hitting me left side of my blackhead, there was no dent. I no longer ride with my Mavic Notch helmet,it got a lot of dents just by hits from branches. I love double d buckles, its so secure,Always hated the Side Squeeze Buckle system, I had do readjust almost every week.
I have a Scott Spark 740 and was wondering how do you know if you need more or less rebound dampening? On the front it's 18 clicks from end to end on the knob and I'm at 9-10 from the least amt of dampening. On the back I'm 7 clicks back from the most dampening with total clicks available being 16. What feeling am I looking for that tells me to go one way or another?
Very informative video. My rear Rockshox suspension is fully compressed after my ride Saturday and will not extend. At the bike shop trying to figure that one out. Have a feeling it may be going back to Sram. Adding 10mm to the front also with a part I bought. They recommended that to bring it to 140. I have the BC edition thunderbolt. greg
Personally I think get the sag correct . Hit the trails ! If you bottom out and you haven't hit anything big put some air in . All the rest is for the pros who probably have lucky pants and have to complete crazy ritual stuff !!!
What does the bladder air pressure do? He says it makes the shock firmer or softer throughout the whole stroke, this to me sounds like adjusting air can pressure. Is he talking about making it firmer and softer in relation to compression dampening?
Air pressure in the bladder keeps the oil flowing back and forth between the valves. When a shock or fork compresses, oil flows from one side of the damping system to the other side, when it extends or rebounds, the oil must quickly flow back through and the air pressure makes sure the flow is quick Otherwise cavitation and emulsification can occur.
I would be sick with buying such a nice Sata Cruz and then needing to upgrade it. I know the frame is the bomb but you got very good high end components too. I understand the wheel you messed it up. So tell me can you really feel the difference of the replacement shock and forks? I'm just glad I upgraded to full not long ago from hard tails a very entry Santa Cruz the Superlight but I'm loving it. Wes
The DVO stuff has performed awesome, I love it. I'm not a suspension geek enough to be able to articulate all the little differences, I just care about fun and feel and they've got 'em both!
11:13 the type of riding you do a full face helmet is a must. get a full face helmet,no matter how skilled you are 5h!t happens. I always ride with fullface and knee&elbow pads no matter what. Sharp big stones,it does not help much with a xc helmet.
And by the way, did you ever have a final grade for that suspension? What is recommended for a rider like you 2019? Watching the video again, you lost it when you stepped in to the previous rider's tracks.
Watching this video again as I'm waiting for my new bike with a DVO Diamond boost to arrive. Have you had any problems with the "clacking" sound on high speed travel some are complaining about?
Everything I've ridden (DVO, RockShox, Fox) has been pretty damn good over the past 6 months. The DVO stuff has performed great on my last run of rides and I'm having a ton of fun on it. I'm sure real suspension geeks can talk about the differences. I just want to go out and ride!
I ask as I'm going to upgrade my revelation 32mm with 140mm travel and wondered if they were worth investigating. They're not that readily available here but if it's worth the work I'll investigate. Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Definitely, the DVO guys called me up and wanted me to ride their stuff, and I would do that for any company. It helps that they're really good dudes and damn good mountain bikers.
I haven't heard of DVO before, forgive me if i sound naive but are they a relatively new company? Also how do they compare as a company to the market leaders such as rock shox and fox?
27 seconds into this video your bike is in the stand and the stock shock appears to be a Monarch debonair. Do you feel the Topaz is a better performer than the stock Rockshox offering? My stock shock that came on my Bronson isn't nearly as good as your stock shock and I've been looking at the Topaz pretty hard lately.
I'm only starting to get to the point where I can play with my suspension and feel confident about it. I really liked the stock suspension, but I couldn't tell you a thing about the specific characteristics. A big thing to think about is service. Can the local shop service your shock or do you need to send it off somewhere?
Oh no! If you are not considered an aggressive rider -I've seen you destroy many gnarly rock gardens-. I will have to classify myself somewhere between puss and beach cruiser.
DVO suspension is the real deal, super plush shock and the fork is amazing. I have it on my Trance and getting ready to put it on my Bronson as well. Your title says Emerald fork, but it is a Diamond fork. The Emerald is their DH fork.
Yep, it's amazing! Thanks for letting me know about the typo! I'm surprised I didn't say it wrong in the video. I kept mixing them up.
That OTT sounds like an amazing idea to help take some of the strain off of my forearms.
I haven't had to play with it yet, and I do have to say I haven't had much strain at all.
The Singletrack Sampler Are you and Brian sitting in the same room chatting on this ??? You crazy dudez
Haha, we are 926 miles away (I looked it up)
:(
Wow you would be in the sea if you was that far apart here in the UK
Love the DVO stuff and the technical explanation of the guy!
Thanks dude!
Thanks my man!
sick ride Brian hopefully one day I'll have one like that, looking forward to future videos with the new setup!!
Thanks Steve, it's a beast now!
Its always so sweet to see people riding my local trails! I ride bootleg every weekend!
Nice! I had a lot of fun out there, dangerous ground!
I'm a little late for the show but this year I am definitely buying myself dvo Fork
Nothing better!
Man im so jealous (in positive way) at you because you have money and opportunities to buy and test all those new bike components, here in my country i can only dream about that...
But if nothing else im enjoying in your videos !
Happy ride mate :)
Thanks man, I'm so glad I get to bring you guys along with me!
The green caps on the fork look so good
They look good but should also offer the ability to order different colours so people can colour match.... would be able to finish the bikes of nice.
+yakbiker75 true
Pretty cool!
I like these talk to the expert videos too. Good compliment to your trial videos.
Thanks man! Definitely something I want to do more of!
Way cool. Learned a couple suspension things. Trail looked pretty good.
Thanks dude!
I blew up my Rockshox Vivid R2C in less than 1 month.
Didn't want to wait for the warranty, and was OK to try something new.
Honestly, the DVO Jade blows up my mind. This shock is working the way I want constently, during the whole run.
It's day and night compared to the Vivid, which gave me some weird kickback or would smash down more than expected.
I wonder how Ohlins would compare to DVO?
LB Spadluv was your vivid air or coil? I have an air but wet to a dvo jade coil and like the support and small bump compliance. Pedaling uphill it bobs a bit more though.
I love how user-friendly their products are , but I have never tried any of their stuff.
I will definitely consider this fork and shock.
the axle system looks even better than what Fox use.
Great video excellent filming & editing.
Thanks Johannes!
just bought a topaz t3 since my fox float blew up and was not repairable. its an awesome choice!
Very interesting! I like geeking out on bike gear, especially stuff like suspension.
Yeah it was a good lesson!
That Bronson is looking sick man!!
Thanks dude, I love it!
Cheers
Big time close one! So far I haven't had to play with the setup on the fork and it's been great.
Great video, I learned a lot as I'm a FS noob myself. Just picked up my first FS today!
Good stuff, glad it helped!
Nice..glad you're happy with the dvo suspension. Personally I think we can get to a point where there are too many adjustments available..not sure if it's all necessary - and I'm a set it and forget it kinda guy. Anyway, I'm glad you're digging the stuff. Sweet.
I agree, there are a lot of options, but the more I learn the more I think they make sense.
Next time you're in Vegas, come hit up the conttonwood trail systems! ... that stuff up in boulder city is pretty much all loose over HARD pack.
Nice! I'll put it on the list!
Nice!

Good stuff I'm all about learning how to tune my suspension this vid is great stuff
Thanks man!
awesome love the dvo shocks but never tried the forks but sound awesome
Yeah, pretty sweet!
I just bought today for my commencal..what if i dont use the spacer?is it ok?
what's your rebound setting on Topaz? i run about 2-3 clicks (from open) and i think (parking test) that it's still not too fast return.... (my weight is about 78kg with gear)
Very helpful! I'll have to look into these for my bike.
Nice!
Bronson CC with DVO and SRAM Eagle. Gonna have to call that all pleasure and no pain :)
Hahaha, yep
best explanation of suspension. thanks for the video!
Thanks dude!
"low speed doesn't have anything to do with how fast you're actually going...."
situations where this applies: "you're riding at a slower pace"
Yea I spotted that the guy did contradict himself a few times. It should be something like: 'the size of the force acting on the wheel (and suspension) determines if it's relevant to the fast or slow rebound system'.
I'm a huge tinkerer; these guys are speaking my language! Too bad these shocks are way out of my price range...
Start saving!

Good revue Brian, not to technical, just get out there and try out what feels right. "Fy-Tec" still hanging in there after the crash!
Thanks! Yep, my gimbal has taken a beating and keeps going!
Just ordered a Ripmo AF, looking forward to trying out that DVO Topaz. I watched this like 3 times and I still don't fully understand what's going on but I'll get there lmao
Just got mine today, you are going to love it! It was one beast of a machine!
Brian, 8:31 you mention you not an agressive rider, almost three years later, what you say now?
How does this spec of DVO compare to the current Fox Factory squish?
thats a sick shock pump
😁👍
Another great video :-). Really gave me insight into the dark art of set your bike. Thank you :-)
Thanks Paul!

Awesome video! Ever thought of going to Copper Harbor MI? Been there my self and its awesome!
Definitely! People talk about it a lot!
Some new info for me. I wasn't familiar with DVO before.
Glad you got some good info from it!
We started DVO in 2012 but have been in the suspension business since 1989.
quick question with the fork, do you turn the HSC clockwise to make it soft? the LSC dial seems to be that way... even though the manual says all dials to be anti-clock wise for fully open.
I don't remember off the top of my head, shoot DVO an email and they'll get you sorted!
Brian, can you do a DVO (fork + shock) review? I want to know what you think about them (pros/cons) after logging all those miles... Thanks.
I'm no expert, I really can't articulate anything other than "it was damn good". It's why I need to keep learning and keep feeling out how stuff responds.
BKXC Enough for me... I'm going to start with Topaz Air and eventually Diamond in the near future. Thanks.

Nice! I love all the suggestions, dude.
I would call someone like TF Tuned. They really know about suspension.
I have the BC edition thunderbolt. greg
Ugh, that's the worst! Hope they get you figured out.
Personally I think get the sag correct . Hit the trails ! If you bottom out and you haven't hit anything big put some air in . All the rest is for the pros who probably have lucky pants and have to complete crazy ritual stuff !!!
Hahaha, right on
Oh shit!! Brian that was close to your face!. good video
Ridiculously close to my face, I could hear the earth turning!
ha!! that's funny, glad you are safe bro
I couldn't help but sense that you haven't a clue what he's talking about and was dying to get this over with it and ride you bike. Lol
Hahahaha! Like a puppy dog who wants to go for a walk.
What does the bladder air pressure do? He says it makes the shock firmer or softer throughout the whole stroke, this to me sounds like adjusting air can pressure. Is he talking about making it firmer and softer in relation to compression dampening?
I'm not sure, but I bet if you reached out to them they'd have an answer! www.dvosuspension.com/contact/
I'm not a suspension geek enough to be able to articulate all the little differences, I just care about fun and feel and they've got 'em both!
excellent tips and info. Great stuff
Thanks man!
Lots of good info, nice video
Thanks man!
11:13 the type of riding you do a full face helmet is a must. get a full face helmet,no matter how skilled you are 5h!t happens. I always ride with fullface and knee&elbow pads no matter what.
Sharp big stones,it does not help much with a xc helmet.
Good friggin' call, man.
And by the way, did you ever have a final grade for that suspension? What is recommended for a rider like you 2019?
Watching the video again, you lost it when you stepped in to the previous rider's tracks.
Does dvo make slopestyle forks?
No idea, check out their site!
Watching this video again as I'm waiting for my new bike with a DVO Diamond boost to arrive. Have you had any problems with the "clacking" sound on high speed travel some are complaining about?
I haven't seen that, is there a forum post you can link me?
BKXC I was just looking in the forums on the DVO site. there is 4 or 5 threads about it. may have just been a bad batch.
For your style of riding do you notice any differences from fox or rockshox?
Everything I've ridden (DVO, RockShox, Fox) has been pretty damn good over the past 6 months. The DVO stuff has performed great on my last run of rides and I'm having a ton of fun on it. I'm sure real suspension geeks can talk about the differences. I just want to go out and ride!
I ask as I'm going to upgrade my revelation 32mm with 140mm travel and wondered if they were worth investigating. They're not that readily available here but if it's worth the work I'll investigate. Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Im going to buy a topaz in one month , is it good for agresive riding ?
Hell yes
so Brian, your fork suspension set up (PSI) is basically your body weight when he dialed your suspension?
It's significantly less than weight: tech.dvosuspension.com/setup/diamond/air-pressure-guide-sag/
Thank you man!
How much travel to you have front and rear now with the new suspension?
160 up front not sure with the rear, I'm guessing 150
Does it feel weird if you have different amounts of travel front and rear?
Not that I've noticed!
Okay thanks!
do you want to sell the pike that came on the bike? Im looking for a 150mm pike for my trek remedy.
I'm going to hang on to it, I can't be without a backup if I have a trip planned to some foreign country!
very informative. loved it!
Thanks dude, glad you got some info out of it.
did you have to pay for the suspension or did they give it to you for free
They gave it to me to ride it and talk about my experience, nothing is free!
What was wrong with the Santa Cruz stock setup? Isn't that bike $6k to start?
I didn't think anything was wrong with it, but I love testing out different pieces of gear!
Very nice! Perks of the new job eh. Couldn't imagine swapping out suspension so soon on a nice bike like yours.
They've been around since 2012 and I'm digging their stuff big time.
they're like Cane Creek - offering more tunability with more adjustable parameters than the big boys RS/Fox.
DVO was founded by a group of us that started Marzocchi MTB Suspension back in 1989. We've been doing this for quite some time now.
Can the local shop service your shock or do you need to send it off somewhere?
you made a little mistake in you title, its a Diamond not an Emerald. the emerald ist the Double Crown Upsidedown Downhill fork
Yes! Thanks. I kept doing that!
Too many damn gems!
Tried to replay the parts where he was explaining stuff and still couldnt understand anything. Hahaha
Hahahaha.
You in AZ here?
Las Vegas!
You scratched it... you bought it? o_0
Put a Hans Dampf on point ;-)
Could move the NN out back, for a little extra bite in the rear too =)
I put on my Maxxis tires from my old wheels and they're doing great!
What versions? DHF/DHRII? HRII's?
DHF / DHR,
NICE!!!!!!!!
I thought EVO was a little more affordable than FOX or RS
DVO seems to be at a higher price point.
Oh no! If you are not considered an aggressive rider -I've seen you destroy many gnarly rock gardens-. I will have to classify myself somewhere between puss and beach cruiser.
Hahaha, I think everyone underestimates their aggressiveness, especially when I ride behind some real rippers.
Just installed a diamond and topaz to my nomad, this video was partly to blame 😂
Hahaha, good to hear!
how much have you put into this bike lol
Hahaha, mucho!
none of their forks are 26er size 😯
YESS
😁👍
"Nice"

Hahaha, I use that about as much as "Alright!"
