I swear it wasn't that long ago (might've been less than a week) I saw someone say Asimo is the Dabuz of Japan due to how he had placed highly at tournaments a large number of times but couldn't quite get a major win under his belt. Seems like that guy really jinxed it lol.
Asimo is such a monster seriously, he will get 49th at an event and instead of taking a break or anything he's just like "ok next event" and gets 4th. Extremely deserved win.
I guess I never thought of that. I've seen a lot of great Ryu players in both games but now that you mention it, I don't remember seeing a Ryu win one of the larger tournaments before.
Good stuff from Asimo. I think it’s safe to say the spot for Number 1 is up for grabs now and even the 2-3 spots can be moved around. Looking good for Sparg0 with the 2 major wins, Sonix is Mr consistent, then Miya and Acola both having good top placements but also early losses. Interesting to see how it’ll play out in the coming months
Edit: Didn’t realize it was only the second half of the year at year end, I figured LumiRank would do a full year. With that being the case, yeah, you’re right. Miya’s wacky placements, Sonix’s consistency, Acola’s “slump,” if you can call it that, and Spargo’s dominance all make for an interesting end of the year. This is a bit of recency bias. Acola’s lowest placement this year was 7th. He’s won 5 events, got second at 3, and third at 1. He’s pretty safely #1 unless Sonix starts winning everything for the rest of the year. Likewise, Spargo’s lowest placement this year was 33rd, and while he’s won just as many events as Acola in that time, he also has two 5th place finishes and a 13th along with the 33rd. Miya, too, has won 11 events this year, but placed outside of top 8 at 5 others.
@@Darkdragon902. This time, Lumirank decided to do two separate rankings. Acola and Miya's fantastic first half of the year doesn't matter for rankings.
@@Darkdragon902. How is it recency bias when the ranking season is only factoring in these recent tournaments? It's 6 month seasons now, Acola is NOT #1 currently. Spargo has won both P tiers in NA, Miya has won both P tiers in Japan, while Acola on the other hand has been struggling. So far, Spargo has a better placement than Miya and Acola.
19:34 one last thing, Asimo was pretty smart to air dodge that 4th bair, while one of Steve's strongest moves Acola trusted it too much in this situation.
Acola had some downright nasty setups (like at 18:34), but I also saw some moments where it seemed like he was on autopilot. Good stuff to him of course, but Asimo played solid the entire set.
That was seriously a nail biter! What a finish! It could have gone either way! Congratulations Acola for a great fight and CONGRATS to Asimo! ✨👏🥹 Well deserved!!!
18:37 I like how the game just teleports Ryu inside of the minecart for the corner of the minecart barely touching his head. That wacky hitbox gotta be up there with Joker's neutral when shooting downwards.
Spoiler 🛡️ Asimo winning a major was a long time coming he showed signs that he could win a major multiple times it’s surprising it happened this year.
I feel like asimo could’ve taken that stock at 15:00 with a shield break. Does he just not go for shield breaks in general or was it just heat of the moment?
Yo so why does the forward throw at 9:50 kill like that? Something weird with the block bouncing him back into the throw hitbox which somehow is super strong??
My deepest respect for Asimo. Steve's main's are carried by ALL HIS OP STATS. (Hardly skills are involved, just same repetitive mechanics) Asimo played like a CHAMPION and deserve the win 1,000,000%. Asimo kept chasing HIM ALL OVER THE STAGE like he owe him money. hahaha. It goes to show you how THESE GUYS GET CARRIED BY THEIR MAIN... and they come off to the public as if they have great skills. MK LEO IS ONE OF THE BEST. Because he plays with a variety of characters which some are mid tier and not all top tier. At one point he even played with LINK. He was really good but got beat by HIGHER TIER CHARACTER. He just enjoys the game. ASIMO HAS MAJOR MAJOR SKILLS. In order to play with RYU at that level, it takes learning ALL HIS MOVES TO PERFECTION to input them at precisely the time it takes to get the advantage. That is not easy. For example: Chasing Steve and destroying the blocks. But being just far enough, to not get hit with that diamond pick axe or sword. Also not get combo with the minecraft car, or fire above, or envil, etc, etc. lol Congratulations ASIMO. 🏆

Finally Asimo gets the Major win he's been wanting, and not only did he do it, he got it at a Supermajor.
And over ACOLA no less
I swear it wasn't that long ago (might've been less than a week) I saw someone say Asimo is the Dabuz of Japan due to how he had placed highly at tournaments a large number of times but couldn't quite get a major win under his belt. Seems like that guy really jinxed it lol.
he also pulled a Sparg0 at Supernova/Riptide and only dropped 4 games total (1 before top 96 and the other 3 in winners finals and grands)
Asimo is such a monster seriously, he will get 49th at an event and instead of taking a break or anything he's just like "ok next event" and gets 4th. Extremely deserved win.
Asimo is a player only held back by bad game design decisions.

One think you can say about Acola is he’s a good sportsman
One of the most deserved wins I've seen in a while, Asimo finally won his first major after coming so close so many times. Let's go Asimo!
Feels SO DAMN GOOD to see Steve get his cheeks clapped. Saying he's a cheese character is an insult to cheese itself.
He is a cheese character tbo, i mean most of this games top tiers are just cheese characters tho so it means verdy little
@@illford Steve isn’t considered a cheese character at this point, he’s in a league of his own with the bullshit he has.
