"80% of injured Azov fighters return to duty": on Medical Curators of the Azov Patronage Service

Severe injuries with amputations, traumatic brain injuries, burns, numerous contusions - this is just a small list of the wounds that soldiers suffer on the battlefield. After an injury, a long process of treatment and rehabilitation begins, requiring time, skilled doctors, money, and support. Usually, all of this falls on the shoulders of the soldiers themselves and their families. However, in late August, military units began introducing services to assist injured soldiers, inspired by the Patronage Service of Azov, which has been operating since 2014.
“We go to the hospital with the girls to explain the next steps to our soldiers, and soldiers from other brigades gather around us because they don’t have this information,” says Dzyvinka, head of the department for working with the wounded.
The medical curators of the Patronage Service take on all matters related to the injured soldier's health and the subsequent stages of recovery, helping with rehabilitation and prosthetics.
“We clearly explain to the family and the injured soldier what to expect, what the next steps will be. We act as their communicators. Typically, state rehabilitation packages are insufficient, especially for severe injuries, so we’re happy to have the resources to help the injured soldier recover,” says Dzyvinka.
Thanks to the coordinated system and work of the medical curators, over 80% of the wounded soldiers from Azov and the 3rd Assault Brigade return to duty.
