- Join us for a great presentation of contemporary rail photography by Andrea Capiola! In our March CRP&A program, Andrea shares a sample of "A Spike in Time," her photography project that documents, educates, and promotes the preservation of northwest railway history.
For more than a decade, Andrea has traveled the Pacific Northwest capturing images of everyday railroad operations: freight trains, passenger service, and the men and women who maintain the busy rail lines. "A Spike in Time" examines today’s railroads in Washington state and the evolution of railroad practices and equipment over the last 150 years. When Andrea began photographing trains, it ignited a passion and love for the railroad. Despite living on an island, she would drive an hour almost daily to take pictures of various trains, landscapes, structures, and workers. Andrea's program aired March 5th, 2024, hosted by Scott Lothes, executive director for the Center for Railroad Photography & Art.
WOW! What magnificent photos. You must have amazing patience to wait for just the right moment when for a train to appear! Thanks for sharing them!
Thanks for posting this presentation. I spend a good amount of time in the Pacific Northwest and it was fun to see old haunts and places I haven't seen.
The track under the Joso viaduct is very much active. It is the former Camas Prairie, now Watco's Great Northwest Railroad.
Good to know. Thank you for the comment.
That piece Gaynor was never the Milwaukee Road. That was Great Northern electrification.
OK, the Boeing fuselages were going to Renton not Everett.
OK, 90340. That’s not an engine. That is a Non-powered Control Unit.
