I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
Thanks for the video. I just acquired a 5500c. It looks brand new! Found your video to get an idea of how it works and everything seems to be working great.

Thanks Dennis! Great ABU 5500 maintenance. Exactly how I did it to mine, but it took me an hour :] I've done a 5000 and a 5500. I have another 5500 and a 6501 yet to do...thanks fo the great tutorial.
@@2ndChanceTackle The one I did was a 5500C SYNCRO. The other two I have yet to do are not Syncro's I'll take time to watch that other video you mentioned. Thanks for recording and sharing this valuable info with us. I was always hesitant to open my reels up and other than exterior cleaning I had only opened up an old Mitchell 300...not so much anymore. The cameras in the smart phone make instant photos a breeze. Thanks again for giving confidence with education. You Rock.
Thanks for this video. I finally got it back together. I lost the e clip once but finally found it and that had me worried. I was not tightening down the thumb screws with screw driver and it would not make the line screw work back and forth side to side then finally I tighten the thumb screws more with a screw driver and the line screw began to work. Come to find out the guy who sold to me said he only used the reel once or twice I didnt not need to take it apart in the first place but me trying not to be lazy I did and it didnt need anything but I did put some more grease on it anyway. wow I spent all afternoon on it sheesh. It was not even dirty at all. It needs some line on it though. Glad that's over now.
It is certainly right up there with the best of the round bait casters. An enduring design outlasts all of the trends. best wishes for good fishing - Dennis
I like to find old reels and poles at thrift stores and yard sales. I clean them and get them in good working condition with new line. Then I give most of them away. When your old you get more joy from giving than getting.
a lot to that reel. nice job that's a great real !! to burn up a drag isn't from sitting in the garage that babby has brought a lot of fun to the owner for sir ten
I AM GLAD TO SEE SOMEONE THAT KNOWS THE IN'S AND OUT'S OF THESE REELS.. THEY ARE WELL WORTH SAVING.. IT'S A PLEASURE TO WATCH YOU AT WORK. MOST HAVE LITTLE TRUBLE TAKING ANYTHING APART BUT FEW EVER GET PUT BACK TOGETHER.. A MASTER OF REEL REPAIR YOU ARE !!!!!!
Thank you for your videos there are very helpful and finding what's wrong with a 6000 I just purchased from eBay. I opened it up and found a lot of parts that need to be replaced drag washers pinion gear not sure if it's supposed to wobble I'm looking to replace parts that are old. There's some indication of rust on the shaft where drag washers meet . I would like to send you. For maintenance and repair .
I have 3 6500 C3 reels i bought at least 8 years ago. I went to do a drag upgrade and all three already had carbon fiber washers. Do you know what year they started doing this ?
Another great and helpful video. I have another request for you if you don't mind. I have quite a few baitrunner reels, Shimano, Okuma and the Daiwa version as well, and the Shimano is getting to the point where it needs attention. I imagine they are a fairly similar break down, it would be nice to see how that second drag system works. Thanks again for another great video.
Can you help me? I had an unusual problem with my abu 15 yr old 5500cs pro rocket. I figured it out due to your vides so THANKS. What happened while fishing big salmon the drag seized. No matter how much i turned the star drag out it made no difference on the drag pressure. Still locked. So at home I took the drag apart. I got the washers off but the brass wheel at the bottom was not moving. Normally I can pull that brass cog out and a little drag sits under there. I had to use a screw driver to pry the brass cog out carefully. Once out I noticed it had a hard time being refitted on the shaft so I took my dremel and polished the heck out of the shaft (only below the star wheel grooves) and i polished the inner hole of the brass cog as well. After that it was smooth again and i could re-assemble the drag again. In fact the brass cog actually spun very freely now.,...better then before. What do you think could have caused such a weird sort of seizure on the brass cog? Thank you
That sounds like there was a lot of torque put on the piece, possibly from a snag or twist. Sounds odd. Glad you solved the issue and that you have the reel fishing again - Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle Thanks again dennis. By the way...what would cause an abu baitcast reel handle to suddenly stiffen up. Making it difficult to turn the handle when retrieving but the actually casting/free spool was fine. Only when you retrieve. It's gotten supper hard to turn the crank and I had to stop fishing it. Thanks!
Great video. My 5500LC has been having a problem recently. The only way the clicker and line counter engages is when the drag is extremely tight. Not sure if it's worth a fix or just get a new reel!
Great reels. Add a carbontex drag and they are outstanding. One thing though, the thumb bar models can be an issue. I had a 4600 C3 with a broken thumb bar and to repair it required a complete frame. Uneconomical!
I had one in the shop last month with the same issue. It was a broken pin in the thumb bar assembly. I wound up drilling into the thumb bar and replacing the pin with a piece of finishing nail to make it work, but you are correct, the uneconomical answer was to buy the whole frame. Thanks for watching - Dennis
Hi Dennis, Funny you mention sticking drag. I own ten or so Okuma Convectors and Coldwaters. In almost all cases, the drags stick. By "drags stick" I mean, when you dial the star adjuster out, the drag doesn't release until some mysterious and unpredictable event occurs and then the reel responds to the star adjuster change. Other than taking the reel apart and correcting the drag discs, is there a technique a frustrated person can use to get the reel drags to perform as they should? Thanks
You need to take the reel apart. Usually as sticking drag is the result of dried grease adhering the fabric washers to the metal ones, which causes the stick. You can't try oil directly as the A/R clutch is on top of the drags and oils will affect that part
hey 1) i have an older 70s abu 6000 - only one drag washer..it's terrible...anyway to upgrade that to smoother / stronger? 2) any videos of disassembling/clean/grease the thumbar in abu 5600/6600? - that's where 90% of these reels screw up; and i'm nervous about taking it apart without some guidance... thanks
You can get replacement drag washers and upgrade to Carbontex through Smoothdrag.com. That thumb bar is an issue and most of the time the frame needs to be replaced if it fails. I just pit a drop of oil on both sides. There is not much you can do to grease it or clean it. Thanks for asking - Dennis
Great video. I have had my reel for over 30 years, even though it's working fine, I may need to replace the drag washer at some point . I just hope I can find the parts. Thank you...

The glove is used a a precaution and protection. Many of the reels I service are loaded with grease, dirt, and dried "stuff" including salt and sea, bait and fish left overs. This is particularly true of spinning reels, but I've come to use the glove on all. This one was not, but they are not all like that - Dennis
Wow, great help, sir where did u get that washer, how I can get washer for my Abu Garcia black max 3 low profile casting here in India. My black max too have some drag problem I want to repair it many times I did oiling and greasing but not getting smoothness. Kindly same on black max casting upgrade video.
I don't know about a source in India. In the US we have a few distributors and these can generally be found on the Ebay auction site. You may want to try that, or search Abu for distributors in your area. - Dennis
That's a nice big scratch you put on that gear where the drag washer lays. You should use something that wont scratch the gear and make the washer want to grab onto the gear.
You do not need grease on teflon or plastic washers. If you want to put a light coat on the metals and then wipe it off, that will prevent those metals from rusting - Dennis
E clip. I have two older 5600s. They haven't been working at all and I love the feel of them. Watched your videos hoping to take them apart, clean them and maybe see what's wrong. Starting taking the first one apart and the e clip shot across the room and I can't find it. Is this a piece I will have to order from Abu Garcia, or where would you get it from? Thank you!
You can usually get that clip from ereplacementparts.com make sure you put in you reel in the search bar or you will get too many non-matches. If you an't find it online, try a hardware store. They may have one that fits - Dennis
9:18 The 'ferrel" or bushing or shim (black plastic collar part 7080 likely))? Anyways I got one of these reels at a garage sale and the ferrel/bushing is missing. Understandably the reel won't function without that space created by the ferrel. I'm a diy kind of guy and cheap as hell - I priced the ferrel part and its about $10 plus shipping. Any home made solutions - would a stack of washers do the job? or a well carved wine bottle cork lol....thanks for the vids..love them.
The stack of washers may work, but the issue is that the shaft has flat sides that the piece grabs and a circle hole would not hold. That would affect the anti-reverse function. I think you need to find a donor reel or spend the $10 - Dennis
Thanks for the video, much appreciated! I lost the C Lock and they are no longer available thru Abu Garcia or either of their online parts stores. Do you know what size it is? And where a person might find one? Thanks
Doug - I don't know the size, but you can get an "E" clip assortment on EBAY or you can try you local hardware store. The O.D. may not be exact, but it is the Inside Diameter that matters here. If you order on EBAY, I would recommend the metric sizes. Thanks for asking - Dennis
Dennis, I have a similar issue to the other reply you made. The thumb-bar on my 6600 is acting up. Do I need to take the reel apart to apply oil? Also if it fails and I need to replace the whole frame not just the thumb-bar parts? Last - can you convert the 6600 into a push button style easily (like 6500) if you already have to replace the frame....THANKS
You can add a drop of oil to each side where the thumb bar slides up and down. You do not need to take the reel apart. You cannot convert that reel to the push button. You would need to replace the entire side plate and gearing. I think you may want to wet the whole thumb and seams with a penetrating oil to see if that can add additional lubrication and possibly dissolve any grease or dirt buildup that may be causing it to act up. I believe the entire frame needs to be replaced - Dennis
I have the old gold 5000c Vantage abu. As much as I love this reel the drag never wants to tighten down. like even with locking down the star drag it still can get pulled off with ease.. I've already replaced the drag washer with carbontex. my next step is to shelf the reel.
Sounds like something is out of sequence. If you can send me a picture of the internal drive stack, I will see if I can spot anything obvious. If you want to send the reel to me for service, I will give it a go. Send a note tor pictures to my email - 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com and I will give it a go and let you know the service particulars. I hate to see one go into retirement if there is still life left in it. Thanks for watching and for asking - Dennis
Nice video but it looks like you didn't heck underneath that gear. On many 5500Cs, there is another drag washer that sits on the bottom side of the cog. Easy to miss if you don't know it is there.
Thanks for pointing this out. There is the backing washer. I've missed it I this video. I'm new to recording these and I was rushing to keep the video short. Haste makes waste!. - Dennis
I’m working on this reel currently, have it cleaned and am waiting on some carbontex drag washers to arrive. What are your thoughts on using Cal’s not only on the drag washers but for everything else as well?
Cal's can be used on both the reel and the drags. For the reel parts, it is a little thicker than the blue grease and it may slow the reel down, just not that much, so go ahead and use it. - Dennis
I like the information and video, a question to you sir or any knowledgeable reel tech/diy, can you replace one of those Rulon drag washers with a carbontex type? Specifically on a BFS iFishband Tendershoot round reel. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.
Are you available to repair 2 reels? I have 2 6500 c's they look like this one. I got them used and they just seem like they could be spiffed up. Spool button sticks. Handles stick. They just dont seem right anymore. Maybe they need cleaned and some parts replaced. Idk
Yes - I do repair reels by mail as well as for my local customers. Please send a note to my email address - 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com for the details Thanks for asking - Dennis
does this reel has a clicking sound? it seems silent all the time while casting, while reeking, while dragging?? i have just purchased one from aftermarket, and don't know if it is missing any internal parts for the clicking sound while dragging the line by a fish
My reel is a 5500C but the original version without the rounded left side cover. The bearings are not in the spool. How different is this process? Also, even though I've cleaned it and reassembled it per the diagram in the owner's manual the reel remains in free spool when I turn the crank. I can't see the reason for that. Do you have any tips?
Your reel would be in constant free spool because the click ratchet and trip mechanism is probably not installed properly. You need to take the side plate apart again and make sure the click ratchet and jack are set so that the tail of the jack fits in a slot on the click ratchet, which is located under the main gear, when free spool lever is depressed and that turning the handle pushes that part up to reset the pinion gear and allow the spool to crank - Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle thank you very much for the reply. I’ve checked the reel several times and it still maids notions. I’ve had it since the seventies and this is the first time this has happened. I’m taking it in to the tackle store tomorrow. Thanks again.
OK. If the reel has been cranking for 50 years, then it could be that a part is finally worn to a point where it has become noisy. - Let me know what you find - Thank you Dennis
Shane - The common failures that cause your problem are: Bent or worn pawl, broken worm drive gear (usually a plastic part inside the non-handle side plate) and a worn or damaged worm gear. There are other failure points, but I would check these first. www.abugarcia.com/AbuGarcia-reel-schematics.html All parts should be available. Get the schematic and check the model. They are available on the Abu website. Most are easily replaced. Best wishes - Dennis
Keep up the good videos. I have an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Five and the anti reverse will not stay in place. It will be nice if you can post a video on it. Thanks
I will see if I can find one. The ratchet that is part of the anti-reverse should have an oblong center to match the configuration on the pinion gear sleeve. If it does not lock in, it will not stay in place - Dennis
Dennis, have you ever worked on the 5500 2 speed? I have a question about the washer placement. No schematics were available for the 5500 2 speed versions
You should be able to get the schematic for this reel at Abugarcia.com. go to schematics and page down under Ambassadeur. It is there. Here is a link that I hope can take you there directly s7d5.scene7.com/is/content/purefishing/Abu%20Garcia/Schematics/5500C3%202SPEED%2091-0.pdf - Dennis
I took my reel apart, and a very small copper colored washer fell out, it is round in the center. and round on the outside. would u know where it is supposed to be, thanks
It sounds like it the one at the base of the gear shaft. You can get a schematic of this reel at this link. I am unsure what version you have www.abugarcia.com/pages/abugarcia-reel-schematics Look at part 5189 I think that is the one you are asking about - Dennis
Awesome video! I just picked up an abu Garcia ambassador 5000 at a yard sale for $5.00 and this is going to help me service it. Only issue it has is it's just a little stiff so I should be able to tune her up
Great price for a great reel. Send a question if you run into any problems and I will try to help. A little oil and reel grease goes a long way! - Dennis
2nd Chance Tackle I actually just finished getting it working like new. The only issue I had was when I reassembled it the reel was stiff cranking it. After I took it apart 3 times I realized the issue. I had the spool tension cranked all the way down and it was causing the entire reel to bind up. I loosened the tension up and presto! It's like new again. I didn't pay much attention to the rod it was on till just now. It's a shemono gl conquest. Not a cheap rod at all!
2nd Chance Tackle thank you! Couldn't have done it so easily without your video. ( Subbed) I can use the tight line wishes. With all the humidity lately the catfish have been staying deep so I have been skunking out lol.
I do service reels by mail...or drop off. Please send a note to my email 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com for service and repair information. Thanks for asking - Dennis
I have one seldom used 5000 model siitting in garage for more than twenty years, it is still very smooth and the line cast out ok but has a high noise sound when shooting out? What could be the problem? Can simply open add some grease fix the sound?
Most likely the oils and grease have evaporated over time. Take the side plate off and spray the gear side and bearing sides of the reel with WD40. That will be a quick way to see if it is just grease that is needed. If it solves the problem, you can do the service as shown in the video. Thanks for asking - Dennis
G'day mate! Great video. Have or could you do a vid on an Abu 7000 c4 LD please? I service all my reels but I'm wary of this one. Also are there a replacement higher speed gear sets for them? Thanks in advance. 🇳🇿✝
I think I have a 7000, so I will check and post the overhaul for you. It may be a week or so and I have a lot of end of season tune-up at the moment. I am not aware of a swap to a higher gear set on these reels. If you find they are available, please let me know - . Thanks for asking - Dennis
There were a lot of different configurations of side plates for the Ambassadeur reels and many are not interchangeable. I don't know what versions you are asking about, but the probably is that they won't match up
This reel should be very close to your Ambassadeur 6 and the process for the tune up and service would be the same. If you start and get stuck, you can send me an email at 2ndchancetackle.com and I can help you get back on track if the parts or setup is different - thanks for asking - Dennis
The prices fluctuate widely. Best to check a site like EBAY to see what the current price for one in your condition is going for. My guess is anywhere between $30 and $70 for good to very good condition.
I am not aware of that upgrade. The side plate case that supports the anti-reverse bearing is different and would need to be changed. I haven't seen it done - Dennis
It sounds like you have a broken anti reverse issue. You need to open up the reel and check to see if those parts are functioning. If they are worn, they willed to be replaced. Dennis
Rey - there are several set ups for these reels. The most significant is the change from the friction anti-reverse to the anti-reverse bearing. The best I can advise is to get the schematic for your reel in order to do the service. You can find the schematic here www.abugarcia.com/AbuGarcia-reel-schematics.html Best wishes - Dennis
where/how do you buy the parts for these older reels? I have this exact reel and I'm working on restoring it (its missing parts) so I am looking for where to buy parts.
@@theawkwardoutdoorsman8329 You need to know the model and part numbers as all are not interchangeable. You can get the schematic for your reel at the Abugarcia.com site. The schematic will show the part and number. You can then use that to order your parts. - Dennis
You can find the Abu part through this link. There are several sources. I used ereplacementparts.com, but there are several that Abu lists here www.abugarcia.com/AbuGarcia-parts.html
It sounds like you don't have a drag and that it is done. Another cause could be broken line or debris inside that is keeping the drag from working properly - Dennis
Buck Nasty, an older abus reel using fiber (?) drag elements. It should not contaminated with grease or oil. Otherwise it will just slip with lighter pull. I always keep my abu c3 drag element free from oil and grease. Some people put grease for smoother drag but for me an abu original is smooth enough without grease. I even increase it drag power simply by polishing the metal pressure plate (three including the top) to mirror finish and inside the main gear that touch drag element using dremel tool and Fabulusture polishing compound.
Thank you for taking the time to make a video on this, very helpful! Is there a good site or company to order replacement reel parts you can suggest? I have 2 Abu Garcia Torno 3003's that need worm gear and paul, and I'm having trouble finding them for this reel in particular.-Jason

There are three types of drag washers. Felt, which get oil, fabric, which get grease and hard composite, carbonated or teflon washer, which do not need either. - Dennis
It is hard to say what the cause is without opening up the reel. You will need to remove the gear side plate and inspect what the cause may be. It could be as simple as broken line on the spool, or it could be a broken part. If you would like me to serve it, I can. For service and repair information, please send a note to me at 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com
hello : best video I have found !! can you please make or have a video home to protect reel like those from saltwater fishing , before use ?? like where to put grease or oil , im just starting to use one of those , thank you from new ( SUBSCRIBER ) :)
Thank you for subscribing. I will add your request to my lit. In the meantime, make sure you wash off the reel with fresh water after each use and use a drying agent like WD40 after each use. The reel should be serviced at the beginning of the season and again around the mid-point. At the end of the season, you should remover the line before storage. There is no reason to keep the line on, and the risk is that the water on the line will corrode the spool and gum up the reel. Thank you for asking - Dennis
thank you , one more thing , I was about to put strike pro line 0.15 on the ambassador 4600 , but some ppls have told me not do this cus I will have tie-ins :( they told me to put 0.36 but I will not get range that I want :( then no idea why I got this reel in the first place :( I have used spinning reels all my life , but to get more range some guys told to get levelwind reel >.
Use what you think is best for you. Try the .15 - I think it will be fine. If you have the trouble that folks say you will, then switch over. Part of the fun is learning what is best, so you need to try different things until you get the set up you want. I don't think that the tie in will be the problem that you think it will. If it is, then switch to the .36 Thanks for watching - Dennis
You probably dont give a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my gf these days :)
That's not recommended. There should be equal wear and pressure on this from top and bottom so flipping it would do little. It should be replaced. - Dennis
This will sound like a stupid question. Are you sure you have a clicker on the reel? Many of the Abu bait casters do not have a clicker. I pulled a schematic for the Royal Express and did not see a clicker on that model. If you have a clicker, please send me the model # and I will see if I can help. Most of the time, you will need to remove the non-gear side plate and replace the metal or plastic ring in order to restore the function on those reels that have a broken clicker. - Dennis
Sí, el carrete está diseñado para un uso intensivo de agua salada y se basa en una línea trenzada para obtener la fuerza y la capacidad necesarias para la pesca en el océano. - Dennis
Hasan - Please watch my video on the take apart and service of the Penn 4/0. It is on youTube at ruclips.net/video/6XTchxCg8Mw/видео.html It is not your exact reel, but the process to upgrade your drag washers is the same. Remover the old drags as shown, but replace them with the new Carbonex washers and I recommend new metal washers as well. Please send a question if you have problems. Thank you for asking - Dennis
My first guess is that you did not remover the "E" clip on the top of the gear sleeve. I think you just need to remove it and your handle with slip back on easily. Sometime you can pop off the handle without removing the clip, but you can rarely get the handle back on with first removing that clip - Dennis
Terminology is all wrong. What you call the pinion is the drive shat. The pinion is the small gear in the middle. Also you said you were going to lubricate the worm gear but you didn’t. Lastly, you left a lot of greasy junk on the reel when you reassembled it.
Looks like I need to work on my nomenclature. I get mixed up easily calling springs screws, screws nuts and yokes and jacks collars and levers. No excuses. Hopefully folks can work the process in spite of my ability to err in naming the pieces and parts. This is one of my earlier videos. I am trying to get it right, but still proving human. Dennis
Yes, you are right. The earlier videos in my series were limited by the camera. I have upgraded it and am better able to do close ups now. My hands and arms still get in the way. I am working on that - Dennis
GEEEZ ANOTHER VID OF AN EXPERT WHO DOESNT EXPLAIN EACH STEP ... knowledgeable? YES good educational vid? NO.. knows how to do it but is going through it with normal motions but doesn’t explain it well .. how much grease? Try to avoid getting your greasy hands all over the fishing line .. The springs and clips have certain ways they go and we’ll never know... but otherwise was a decent vid ..
What a hack! 20 years servicing reels? People pay for that? This must be a joke vid...had me laughing. New teflon drag washer with the dirty rust pitted top drag plate.
Yes - the Abu lineup is complete with a lot of very nice reels at a good price point

plutoplatters Yes they are. And very hard to find too!
Probably the strongest round baitcast reel of all time
It is certainly right up there with the best of the round bait casters. An enduring design outlasts all of the trends. best wishes for good fishing - Dennis
I like to find old reels and poles at thrift stores and yard sales. I clean them and get them in good working condition with new line.
Then I give most of them away.
When your old you get more joy from giving than getting.

My most favorite reel!
These are great reels. As long as they are kept clean and lubricated, they will last a long time. I hope the video showed how to do that. - Dennis

I may have an Okuma Avenger bait feeder around. If I do, I will open it up for you, show you the operation and how to service it. - Dennis

You may have a worn drag that needs to be replaced. I would try that first - Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle
Dennis. This one had a broken thumbar. I think a 2 piece design would fix the issue. Still love my old round ABU reels.
Thanks for asking - Dennis
which is better internally the older or newer abu 5500 6500 c series? thank you for your help
I like the older versions. I am not a fan of the newer models and materials
These are GREAT reels!

What contaminants are you worried about? Surely not microscopic amounts of reel lube?
Hmm - I will need to go back and see then adjust my technique. Best wishes - Dennis
Do we need to grease a bit the drag washer with dry grease even if it's made with teflon?

Abu still make these reels so the e clip would still be available.
- Dennis
is it a very small copper colored washer that is slightly concave?
I’m working on this reel currently, have it cleaned and am waiting on some carbontex drag washers to arrive. What are your thoughts on using Cal’s not only on the drag washers but for everything else as well?
At least for the parts that need grease and not oil.
Most drag washers can be upgraded Carbontex. Just make sure that they are the same size
@@2ndChanceTackle Thanks for answering my question!!!!

does this reel has a clicking sound? it seems silent all the time while casting, while reeking, while dragging?? i have just purchased one from aftermarket, and don't know if it is missing any internal parts for the clicking sound while dragging the line by a fish
These do not have the clicking associates with a spring driven anti-reverse. These are "silent" A/R systems. Your reel should be fine - Dennis
- Let me know what you find - Thank you
Dennis
Hi Dennis, I have a ambassador reel but the line guide doesn’t move when reeling in. Any recommendations?
Shane - The common failures that cause your problem are: Bent or worn pawl, broken worm drive gear (usually a plastic part inside the non-handle side plate) and a worn or damaged worm gear. There are other failure points, but I would check these first. www.abugarcia.com/AbuGarcia-reel-schematics.html All parts should be available. Get the schematic and check the model. They are available on the Abu website. Most are easily replaced. Best wishes - Dennis
Thanks! I’ll check that out. I was hoping the reel was worth fixing as it’s in good condition otherwise. Thanks for helping me out
Keep up the good videos.

2nd Chance Tack Thanks Dennis I will try.

Will the 6000-c have the same type of anti reverse.
Great vid.
Yes - it should have the tooth rotor under the main gear and the anti-reverse tongue, which rides on the bridge post
Will the 5500 and the 6000 match frame and side plates

My Abu drag doesnt work, its an Ambassador, i tighten my drag and its a free spin, is it done?

It is hard to say what the cause is without opening up the reel. You will need to remove the gear side plate and inspect what the cause may be. hello : best video I have found !! can you please make or have a video home to protect reel like those from saltwater fishing , before use ?? like where to put grease or oil , im just starting to use one of those , thank you from new ( SUBSCRIBER ) :)

Sí, el carrete está diseñado para un uso intensivo de agua salada y se basa en una línea trenzada para obtener la fuerza y la capacidad necesarias para la pesca en el océano. - Dennis
sir help me I want to upgrade my Penn 114 l2 with drag washers of carbontex washers how can I change them and want to loud the voice of my clickers
Hasan - Please watch my video on the take apart and service of the Penn 4/0. It is on youTube at ruclips.net/video/6XTchxCg8Mw/видео.html
It is not your exact reel, but the process to upgrade your drag washers is the same. Remover the old drags as shown, but replace them with the new Carbonex washers and I recommend new metal washers as well. Please send a question if you have problems. Thank you for asking - Dennis
I cant get my handle back on please help , it doesnt seem to want to tighten
Please send me a picture of your problem to my Email - 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com and I will try to help. Dennis
My first guess is that you did not remover the "E" clip on the top of the gear sleeve. I think you just need to remove it and your handle with slip back on easily. Sometime you can pop off the handle without removing the clip, but you can rarely get the handle back on with first removing that clip - Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle thanks Dennis you 100% right i lost the c clip .
Dennis
Your video are good information, but you need to center your video watching your tool tray isn't important
YES
good educational vid? NO..
knows how to do it but is going through it with normal motions but doesn’t explain it well ..
how much grease?
Try to avoid getting your greasy hands all over the fishing line ..
The springs and clips have certain ways they go and we’ll never know... but otherwise was a decent vid ..
so you don't clean the reel you just add grease and oil wow hope you don't charge for this
Eggzactlee! Chronic hackery!
@Badass Frank Henry He's not helping anyone,...maybe a what not to do vid...
What a hack! 20 years servicing reels?
People pay for that?
This must be a joke vid...had me laughing. New teflon drag washer with the dirty rust pitted top drag plate.
If this is what you call a service you should be ashamed of yourself!!!!
can i know what is the product on the left side of penn grease
That is Cal's drag grease. Thanks for asking - Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle thanks you!
