I’m from Perth Western Australia and we definitely don’t get snow and our Emus are use to hot weather. It’s quite strange for me to see emus running around in the snow. Plus I’m jealous as it very hot at the moment and to have a play in the snow would be a nice change. 40-45 degrees Celsius.
Down in the Australian Snowy Mountains between NSW and VIC it snows every winter. There are Emu mobs down there that do quite well in the cold conditions.
You should use that lovely poopy straw from the emu’s house as fertilizer for your veggie patch. Love watching your videos. Love your new chicken coop!
From what I remember they said emus should be raised in at least pairs. But only Bamboo hatched in his set. So he had to wait a couple of months for the twins to hatch. He had a long time where it was only him & the humans. I think as a result he's bonded closer to them. The boys especially were like his hatchmates in how they played by running around the front yard.
@@lucasramey6427 It very much was adorable. I loved watching them grow up together. Hopefully it will lead to Bamboo also being a much friendlier emu than some. Maybe you could build a large enclosure for the mandrins, with a pond would be a lovely treat, and with all the land you now have,it's something now possible to do
@The White House On The Hill, yeah another youtuber bought a little heater for his little duck water pond and it didn’t get too hot to the point where if the ducks touched it they would get burnt, it stayed warm so that it would keep the water warm in the winter, but not burn them directly.
We're having some fun at the white house on the hill!!!!! woooohooooooo! I just love those emus! And Bamboo has the silliest run ever!! What a riot with her knees knocked in and her feet splayed outward spinning in ALL kinds of directions!!!💓😂 The inside of the coup fantastic now. The only thing left is installing shag carpet, a small chandelier, and some strings of beads!!😂😂😂
Aloha from sunny warm Kauai! Two thoughts, first, if you want to keep the coyotes out, how about an electrified fence around the whole property, that way the flock can have more room. Second, I work at a cabinet shop that makes a lot of sawdust/wood shavings, we bag it and sell it to farmers, ranchers. If you have a need for bedding, that is a great source if there is a cabinet shop close to you.
You know, I would love to have my own pet emus in cold weather like you someday. You're my inspiration! And happy winter solstice! Enjoy the shortened daylight hours.
THERE IS SNOW IN AUSTRALIA! In the part of Australia I live in we get significant snow in winter on the mountains around us especially a couple of hours to the south. This is our Alpine area, is snowy for months. Wild emus survive fine even in the pretty snowy country, but they don't go much beyond the tree line as in deep wet snow they can get stuck easily with those two kinda crazy legs. If those emus have some alpine genetics, they'll be fine. If they are desert or tropical emus they may struggle. I've never been a fan of emus, but I've only ever known the real wild type. They are amazingly bold, will peck at you with bruising force, stalk you and steal your food. Your eyesight is at risk around wild emus! Obviously they are more friendly when raised right from the egg, but do try to teach those three that pecking is not acceptable! I'm nervous for the kids once the emus are fully grown.
Jake, this is a professionally filmed, potentially big-screen movie, like "Biggest Little Farm" I'm sure started out!! Your camera angles, lighting, cinematography in full, as well as the music you choose, is truly perfection! And shows what a perfect life your family is experiencing ♥️👍😍😻 Have a beautiful, blessed Christmas in your amazing new home!

Hi there. In our country it gets wet most winters. I keep the old bedding a few inches above ground level and put new one on there. With the ducks you might give them a muddy area around a few water bowls and get the straw on the other side.
We are here in Falls Of Rough, KY wishing you a Merry Christmas and may God's blessings come to you and yours for the rest of this and throughout all of next year!!!!
Thankyou... watching the emus play in the snow with yous was lovely to watch...the chicken coop is posh as and beccy makes a good tradie...lol...have a very Merry Christmas guys.😊
She looks knock-kneed not bow legged. I honestly never even noticed until you mentioned because their emu movements are all so goofy to me in general. I think you guys will find yourselves needing to bring in a lot more straw and bedding for the first winter. Ducks and "tidy" just don't go together. Merry Christmas. Good luck with the swans.
Since she's not in perfect condition, that probably means she should be taken out of the breeding pool. That should be the one they sell and the one in good condition should be Bamboo's mate.
@@CopperValentine It might be a consideration. I don't know enough about emu or ratite skeleton development or their genomic factors to determine that one. I have seen cases in some species where a baby develops too fast or too slow or for too long and ended up with non-genetic skeletal growth early on then grew into their own later. Some poultry that don't have a proper surface to walk on in their first weeks after hatching may develop gangly or splayed legs because the floor was too slippery. Nothing to do with genes in that case. Ratites may be different like I said.
