  • Tacoma Rail's operation on the former Northern Pacific Prairie Line/Nisqually Branch has changed many times over the years. Now officially known as the Lakewood Subdivision, this rail line hosts local first/last mile freight rail operations in addition to Amtrak & Sounder passenger trains. While BNSF Railway has the contracts of carriage for the cargo customers in Lakewood and South Tacoma, they contract Tacoma Rail to do the work.
I've chased this train many times and have uploaded probably over 50 videos on it over the years, and it's become a staple of the channel's content. I figured it's been a while and it's time again for another video on the DuPont Turn, now with Amtrak trains, additional freight customers, and longer trains.
Enjoy this video, shot last summer on a cloudy day in June. You'll see Amtrak roll-bys, mainline switching, and hear things like vintage P3 horns and radio chatter and communications between the dispatcher and train crew.
Tacoma Rail is always a class act.

That's called an Automatic Wayside Horn, it's supposed to provide a more localized warning to cut down on noise as opposed to the locomotive horn.
