  • The opening shot of Paul Thomas Anderson's 'Punch-Drunk Love' is deceptive: though it may seem simple and innocuous, the amount of information it communicates is significant - telling us everything we need to know about the film's protagonist from the very beginning.

You're right, it is a wonderful film and it does seem to somewhat overlooked. I wouldn't say no to making a more in-depth look at the film, but I've got so many ideas that I want to get to that if I were to do it, it'd have to wait it's turn at the back of the queue.

I love your video essays, after Every Frame A Painting I couldn't really find someone to explain properly how a film achieves an affect. Most video essays nowadays tend to be more over on the philosophical side.I didn't realize it but I watched many of your video essays without actually knowing it they are from the same channel. Keep up the great work and keep doing stuff on lesser explored films and filmmakers.

DAMN okay im pissed. great analysis. but most of the torrent rips of this film are from television DVR rips. i NEED this movie in the original aspect ratio, stat. its so sad that PTA's films barely even get released in the highest quality format they can be in

Get the Criterion Blu Ray release. It’s got the original aspect ratio and the resolution is stunning. PTA was there when they remastered it, helping achieve his original vision. It’s my most cherished Criterion.

What's that film from 0:01 to 0:06 with the dancing show and the guy watching in a theater seat? The words "take me to your" are right in front of it

Pedro Almodóvar's 'Talk To Her', from 2002. If you haven't seen it, it's amazing - you should definitely check it out.
