- In this video we take a trip out to the eastern sierra for the trout fishing opener. The areas we will be visiting throughout this series is mammoth lakes, June lakes and Bridgeport Califorina. First on the list is Silver lake in the June lake loop. Most of the lakes were frozen over but there were small patches of open water that was fishable. Silver lake in particular had open water in front of their marina.

Made the most of the trip although there were a lack of fishing spots. The views of the mountains and lakes were fantastic though! Seems like most of the lakes are good to go now! I need to get back out there again asap. I did check out sarl today, did okay over there.

I love seeing you fishing with your daughter! My dad took me fishing starting when I was three in local streams like the East and West San Gabriel River, and Crystal Lake. We didn't go to the Eastern Sierra until I was five, and we were hooked on that area for life. So many great memories growing up fishing with my folks, so I know how your little girl is going to feel in the future. You are giving her a priceless gift!

@@ExploreNaturesCatch I took my son on fishing trips before he was born, when my wife was pregnant, like you and Christine. After he was born, we took him to the Sierra when he was six months old. We rented cabins at Silver Lake and fished there with the baby until he got old enough to hold a fishing rod at age five. He loves the Sierra as much as my dad and I do. My dad is now 101 years old, but we had to stop taking him fishing to the Sierra when he was 97, the altitude was bad for him. Love to Christine and Amelia.

Hi guys & your beautiful baby girl, your daughter has gotten so big lol so precious guys, future fisher girl that's for sure!! My daughter is 29 and she was just as tiny up there in the Sierras back in the day, glad you got a few, making those family memories cool deal, intense winter this year up there, colder then a well diggers*** I remember them days, I'm moving from Idaho to Texas soon so I'll be fishing them largemouth soon, no more winters for me lol, be safe and warm all the best guys look forward to more sierra fishing 👍🇺🇸🎣🎣
Hey Joe! Baby Amelia definitely is growing fast. All she wants to do is run around everywhere right now. It was a tough trip to find someplace to fish as well as chasing after Amelia every second 😆. It was nice to experience the iced over lakes none the less. Largemouth are definitely fun to catch too. We have a local pond filled with them. I might start getting into more surf fishing soon since the beach is close by to us. Have a good one in Texas! Hope the fishing is good to you out there! Love camping at Silver Lake. We wanted to go there for Fishmas this year but saw the live camera from the resort with the ice still on the lake. Looks like you practically had the lake to yourself. Nice catches. Can't wait to go there at the end of summer.
Thank you. Yeah, it was pretty tough finding areas to fish for the opener. The views were spectacular though. We will be making another trip out there sometime in august. Looks like fishing has been great and there has been lots of trout stocks. Good luck when you get out there!

This was around the end of April beginning of May. The lakes in the mammoth lakes basin still have a lot of ice but the June lake loop is all clear. Have a safe and fun trip out there with your fam.
My BF and I fish all of the same places you and your family do. We’ve never caught anything over 5lbs. Any tips? What was the name of the red power bait you used that your wife picked out for you? We’re going to June lake Memorial Day weekend 😁
That’s awesome! Definitely love it out there. The powerbait that you are referring to is salmon egg red powerbait. It’s been working pretty good for us. It really does take a lot of luck to get those outlier 5+ big ones but the ones I caught that were bigger always came either early morning before the traffic hits the water or when the sun started going down and people started leaving. Before I would scout around the lake and sight fish, you can usually see them cruising the shoreline. In that case I usually use mini jigs or small minnows to entice a bite. Don’t forget to use a garlic scent on your baits. Seems like it really does help. Good luck when you get out there! Let us know how it goes!

Hey Ryan, this is silver lake in the June lake loop, Mono county California. This particular lake was only partially unfrozen when we got there but it’s ice free now. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

That was my thoughts exactly, takes me about 2 hrs to get to gregory and only 30 minutes for sarl. If I’m not busy that day I’ll try and make it out there.
