If you are wondering why Lapland was full of mountains in the map, well, check again where the map author is coming from. I can assure you Finland is full of mountains compared to the Netherlands!
I don't know what the original intention with the sauna bath was, but I think it saves a lot of space not to mention that that the lighting in a sauna is probably pretty nice for a bath.
Sauna-bath author here: Yup, that's the idea. No point having all that wasted space under the benches when you can put it to good use. Also the sweat is not really an issue if you use a laudeliina, and even if some were to fall into the tub, it's much easier to clean from the smooth enamel than it would be from the floor.
@@Kelpoisa I think it is genious, there is so much unused excess space in most saunas. Also relaxing bath in a heated sauna sounds like it could be something you experience in a luxury spa or something. Or you could just take a bath without heating the sauna. Something you missed in the first lofi girl pic: - Block light on the table (a popular designer lamp) - Iittala tealights on the dresser - Raccoon curtains are from Finlayson - The cup is also from Marimekko - The table light is a popular shape (compared to the original one)

About Japan and Mölkky. I arrived in Japan a few months back. When my tutor was guiding me to the local bank we happened to walk past a small park with a few kids playing it there. I, being a Finn, just wanted to take a picture of them playing. He thought otherwise, and went to introduce us. Long story short: the "kids" were doctoral students at our uni, and founding members of the uni's Mölkky circle, established just last January. I am now of course part of the circle myself. Never did I ever think that I'd play my childhood summer vacation cottage game on the other side of the world with people who actually have put more hours into said game. X)
Pirkka parhaat is actually a pretty high end brand :D Even regural pirkka isn't really a cheap crappy brand. They just make the products look cheap to make people think that they are.
There used to be bathtubs in literally every Finnish apartment before the 70s, but as a result of the oil crisis of 1973 they stopped installing them because warming the bathwater suddenly became too expensive. As a result the only apartments with bathtubs are those that still have a very old bathroom.
I once lived in a studio apartment that had a bathtub. Lived there for 3 years and I think I took only 5 baths all together. It did have a shower head but not a shower holder on the wall, so I couldnt take normal showers where you stand under. I had to sit on my knees in the bathtub and hold the shower with my other hand and do the washing and rinsing with other. I hated it but got used to it.
Yeah, it's some sort of fancy old-timey font, but even a lot of native speakers or at least native kids think it's Gifu when they first see it, so it's understandable if foreigners see it and think Gifu or Sifu...
I’m in US. I Love that you pronounce sauna correctly. Huge pet peeve for me. My grandparents came over to the US. In the late 1800’s. My mothers first language was Finnish. She would have been 108 years old.

I actually really like that bathtub in a sauna idea. It uses up space that would otherwise not be used, you can fit both a sauna and a bathtub even in a small apartment.
Nice video! The salmiakki is pronounced "Sisu" (that's the actual way) but people will understand "Gifu" (Because that's what it looks like on the box)
You can choose between sauna or taking a bath. I guess... So it is not filled with ice. We here in Finland complain if outside (or inside) is over +25C (I do, it is too hot) but I refuse to go in Sauna if it is not +80C or more (prefer it for +100C) because "it is too cold".
im a finn living in the uk and the pirkka parhaat - tesco finest thing made me really laugh. i watched the fancy tesco s-ryhmä ads and couldn't believe my eyes.
I live in a 1970s era suburban apartment building and we have a bath. My relative, who lives close to me in a different building, also has a bath. I think they used to be more popular but nowadays aren't that common. I'd personally prefer just having a normal shower anyway since I use the bath once a year at most.
In finnish lofi girl the eyes were blueish gray, i think the most common eye color here. Darker eyes work like darker skin, i believe, so that they are not that much affected by the sunlight. Finnish winter can be so dark that there is sunlight for just a few hours or no sunlight, although the summer is complete opposite.
Now that you mentioned it, I haven't seen many baths in Finland either. My dad's apartment has one and he lives in kerrostalo (don't know what that is in English)

OK. Is it time to review how your Finnish language after 7 years in Finland is evolved? Just wondering our new friends, Ukraine people could be integrated to Finnish llifestyle. I'm happy that Ukraine are coming here in Finland, which is quite a long away from their motherland. To be possible to really integrate to Finnish population, mosti important thing is Finnish language. Maybe you could be used as a real meter what we can hope from Ukraine refugees?
Mate, there have been thousands of season workers from Ukraine in Finland each year and they are European. The failure to integrate is not a quality of refugees, but a quality of refugees from certain countries where people have completely different mindset about everything. I bet most Finns would not be able to integrate into rural Afghan culture either, for example - it would be incredibly difficult to adjust. Most would always stand out in a negative way as people who don't take religion and tribal traditions seriously enough. Not to mention the refugees from Ukraine are almost exclusively elderly, women and children and not young men. It is the polar opposite compared to previous "migrant waves".
