The ghost notes may be that secret sauce but the way you feeling them joints is what's bananas.... Like your musical biology say "ooo hit them ghosts HERE". You could move the ghosts even just a fraction of teenth and that funkiness just ain't the same. And Jon's drums DIRTY. When the horns come in though???? What? Y'all are insane
So Clyde, not only are you a brilliant musician but an excellent teacher! Very motivational and great lesson and I'm a guitar player, but I loved this! You are amazing!
glad to find these. for all that's musically brilliant about Lawrence, as a songwriter and keyboardist, i've been most interested in seeing how Clyde plays and writes.
I really tried to play piano but i get so confused when I have to play with inversions and can't use root chords... yeah... I know. Wonderful tutorial though. Love from Kenya!
@@michaeldanny6122 I'm interested in both. Budget limits me now but it would be interesting to think about what's possible in the future. I don't currently have a midi keyboard (I do but no velocity) so I would need to buy something either way.
@@Zack_Taylor I have so much experience in overspending for keyboards and I can tell you what's most worth it. Software route: get an iPad, MacBook, or use your existing laptop/pc. Download free DAW and VST that sound good. Then buy a midi controller (Korg microkey for mini Bluetooth keyboard, nektar impact for regular size, Roland a88 for piano feel). Hardware only route: Roland keyboards and Yamaha keyboards sound awesome. Just choose your budget and ask me again
Amazing! Even as a jazz guy, the arrangements of these songs are so layered, it's really cool to get it from the source! Now do all of Hotel TV! 🤣 Thanks Clyde!
Also per the "passing G" mentioned at the end of the pre chorus, it seems like they have it exclusively in the bass part on their stems. But keys sound like they stay off it. And that's just going off their published stems (Lawerence y'all wouldn't release stems that aren't on the actual released track would you?...w..would you??) But I'd wager to the Lawerence community that we make a game of it? Whenever this Corona stuff is dealt with we should catch who plays the elusive "passing G" and when. Maybe one night it is Karsh (you sneaky devil you), then next, Gracie sneaks it in after EATING that E5 "It isn't you it's MEEEEE), or possibly Jordan gets a lil froggy on the sax and sneaks it in, or Koh ghosts in a G on a slide into the chorus. And if that's not crazy enough, whether or not the G is played could change person to person, night to night and pre-chorus to pre-chorus intra song! The MADDNESS?!?!?!?!?

Thank you!!!
Duuuuude thanks
Thank you Jack ;)
I’ll never forgive Michael Karsh for not saying whether he plays the G. I’ll keep an ear out next time I see you guys live.
Can you do one of these for don’t loose sight?
Clyde how do you get this wonderful sound out of your keys? Does anyone else have a suggestion on what to buy or what to use?
I can help you with that. Do you prefer using software instruments or real keyboards?
Whats the theory behind this style of music? i'd love to produce this kind of music

The keyboard he uses is not expensive, it's reface CP, can find it used

Haha awesome! Thanks for this!
Years from now there will be a Broadway show entitled Lawrence!

Anyone do any covers of this song yet?
Interested to know this too!

Here from 2023. Karsh definitely played the G on the live cut 👨🎓
.o. Wow
Hahahah love this video - the mystery G
I was about to close my YT app and saw this, then clicked.
Rai Thistlethwayte is the king of funk ghost notes.

When you guys come to Australia...we'll jam, I'll make hamburgers, and we'll play some ball. See you soon!
Proof we do NOT live in a simulation.
All G notes are controversial. They don't need to know our secrets.
