  • Sumy Oblast, a region in the northeast of Ukraine that shares a 350-mile border with Russia, is racing against time to fortify amid Moscow's intensified attacks and the looming Russian advance in the area. The Kyiv Independent traveled to the border areas in Sumy Oblast to speak with the military, local police and residents and learn how they prepare to the new threats.

Moscow's much larger and better-equipped army is making small but steady gains in the east, and Ukraine is desperate to replenish stocks of weapons and ammunition as well as the number of soldiers it can call on.
The government also lowered the military mobilisation age to 25 from 27. There is no draft for women who can serve voluntarily.
Military analysts said Ukraine needed hundreds of thousands more soldiers this year to be able to hold back Moscow's forces.

What is the situation at the moment?
The Ukrainian troops are far too few in number and are worn out at the front and are therefore losing more and more combat power.
Now Zelensky has passed the law far too late, which could potentially lead to more conscription.
    There are now two options.
Either the newly conscripted troops are trained in a crash course for a few days and sent to the front as cannon fodder. This would relieve the strain on the worn-out troops but would lead to high losses for the poorly trained new troops.
Or the newly conscripted troops are properly trained in the hinterland for months.
This means that the worn-out troops have to continue fighting at the front for longer and are therefore further worn out.
So things are not looking good for Ukraine because they were not able to mobilize enough people in time to defend the country.
And the question is how motivated the new conscripts are who have been shirking their duties for two years.
In the end, Ukraine will lose because not enough Ukrainians are prepared to defend their country. This is very clear.

Don't let the way anyone talks make you think this is 'Russia v Ukraine' because it is NOT.
When he says 'Russian' forces he really means 'Ukrainian And Russian' forces.
    DONBAS Ukrainians and Russians.
They fight together, side by side.
The Russians helping the Donbas Ukrainians repel the invading Kiev Ukrainians.
The Kiev Ukrainians (those are the ones the Americans call 'the Ukrainians' and the ones who are the invaders, the aggressors, the extremists and the Nazis, the Stefan Bandera (look him up) worshippers, have been occupying Donbas Ukrainian land since 2014.
When he says 'Ukrainian' he just about always means only the Kiev Ukrainians. This is in line with the lying USA and Kiev narrative which wants you to think there are only two players: Ukraine and Russia. Everyone talks like this. It is a propaganda coup.
    No. There are three players:
'North' Ukraine we might call it which is Kiev Ukraine and extremist Ukraine and 'nationalist' Ukraine which is sworn to building a 'pure' Ukrainian State after the style of the Nazis building a 'pure' Aryan German state. The decided to do that by oppressing, re-educating, victimising the Southern, Donbas Ukrainians who traditionally have much Russian connection.
'South' Ukraine we might call it which are the Donbas Ukrainians the North decided to 'ethnically cleanse' and exterminate for the crime of having Russian connections.
    And Russia.
Three players. At the centre. And a host of malignant evil manipulators, leeches, provocateurs and profiteers on the side extending from USA to Kiev and encompassing the whole Western world.
Now the Russians are helping the Donbas Ukrainians because someone should and we won't, we ignored them for eight years and longer and because of the Russian connection and because the whole thing is an attack on Russia anyway after the style of putting missiles in Cuba was an 'attack' on the USA and we know what the Americans thought of that: they were willing to have a global nuclear war rather than tolerate it.
So okay? 'Russian' when he says it means 'Donbas Ukrainians and Russian help'
'Ukrainian' when he says it means Kiev Ukrainians ( and USA help and every pusillanimous stinking little lapdog of theirs doing their bidding. )
And the Donbas Ukrainians just don't figure in his narrative generally. But they should. Because that's what started it all.
And the fact that the fighting is ALL ON Donbas land that Kiev/USA has invaded generally doesn't figure either.
The fact that there's not one Russian boot on Ukrainian land where it was not invited and welcomed generally doesn't get a mention either.
Just saying. Because without forewarning listening/watching could give you the impression this is simply 'Ukraine' fighting off 'Russian' aggression.
Which is what the evil empire wants you to think. And which is entirely what it is NOT.
If you want to help Ukraine and Ukrainians help bring it to a STOP. Keep Ukrainians - on BOTH sides - ALIVE.
Kiev and Washington want dead bodies. Let them fight each other. The world will be well rid of them.

      Your fairy tale is impressive.
Do you understand there are international borders between countries? Do you understand you cannot take other states territories (No matter if Crimea, donbass or whatever) ? Do you understand that a portion of a state can become independent only after precise procedures ? If you don't understand the basics you can build up any fantasy interpretation of the history.

    • @abrogard
      @abrogard 4 месяца назад

      @@marcop.1701
Tell your fairy tale to the USA, your 'good friend'.
I was there when this began and I remember hearing the Kiev Ukrainians screaming out that they 'had a right to exist', that they had 'a right to self determination'.
We don't hear that now, do we? Because they have belatedly come to realise that they were talking pure tripe seeing as they DID exist and that they WERE 'self determined' and that what they were doing was actually DENYING the Donbas the right to exist and the right to self determination.
So we don't hear that now.
But we still hear similar nonsense, just as far removed from the truth.
Kiev does not care about people. It care about fictional entities. Govt's. Governments are fictional entities that people construct in order to govern themselves, to order their societies.
The people make the govts. It is important to remember that.
The govts are there to serve the people. It is important to remember that.
Now Kiev says they will 'fight to the last man'. Right?
For the glory and the future and the beauty and whatnot, of the State. Right?
      What 'State' ? The people?
How does that 'State' profit by dying to the last man?
Where is the profit in that?
As they die, one after another, that State gets the poorer until in the end there is no State. Neither glorious no inglorious. There simply is not one.
So it's an absurdity. What on earth do they mean by it?
They mean by 'The State' the GOVT.
They want you to die to the last man so's the GOVT will continue to exist.
And then the govt will be glorious. And can be a government in exile as have so many before, living in French villas like so many before and mixing with kings and queens like so many before and dining out on recounting stories of the glory of their State as it fought to the last man.
      THAT's what they mean.
Now reasonable, sensible and good men like Viktor Orban, for instance, they understand that, as Viktor says: the responsibility of a government is the welfare of its people.
And so he will not send his people to die.
BUT: the Kiev govt has sent 500,000 of its people to die and wants to send another 500,000.
      Right?
      You see sense in that?
If you do I suggest you go see a doctor.
There is much more can be said but I have said it over and over again over the last two years, talking to people such as yourself.
KIev intends to take Donbas Ukrainian peoples' territory and their property and ethnic cleanse the place. They declare this. This is their avowed intention.
The place belongs to those people. Those Donbas Ukrainians. Not to America, not to France, not to England, not to Kiev.
Kiev is a govt. Not a people.
The people in Kiev Ukraine owned what they owned, land, farms, property. They did not own the Donbas.
And the govt did not own the Donbas.
I say again: govts are made by the people to serve the people.
When a govt turns against the people as the Kiev govt did then that govt is no longer a govt of those people. Is it? It is not long something they created to serve them. It is now something that wants to hurt them.
A govt, like my govt where I live, only 'owns' this land because we the people let it do that. We give it the 'administration' of the land. They can throw me out of my own house if I don't pay the taxes. That's how much they 'own' it and everything else.
But that is only because I and my fellows allow that. If they started really hurting us we would get rid of them. We would, so to speak 'kill' them.
People 'kill' governments. It is not for governments to kill people.
But the American govt and the Israeli govt and the Kiev government all share that propensity: they feel free to kill their own people. And any others.
If the govt of the next State in our country were to try to impose taxes on me and take my property for non payment we'd finish up with a civil war just like you have in Ukraine now.
Because we have not given and will not give the govt of the next State any such rights, any such 'ownership' of our land.
Now that Kiev government declared war on the people of the Donbas and right there and then divided the country into two. Left one part of it without its own government elected by the people to serve the people.
You, in common with all your fellows it would seem, are severely mixed up. One half million of you have died to serve the interests of the American Military Industrial Complex in the course of an attempted ethnic cleansing of part of what was your country but which stopped being your country, as I've said, the minute the national government turned on a section of its population. From that moment on it was no longer a legitimate government of those people, in place to serve the interests of those people.
You are dying in the interests of american profits.
You are dying in the course of an attempted ethnic cleansing.
You are dying not for yourselves but for a corrupt regime.
You are senseless. Your best friends are your old companions: the Donbas Ukrainians. Your best way to health, wealth and happiness is to throw the Americans and all interfering entities out - and that shocking pretence of a government - and make friends with the Donbas Ukrainians.
You cannot contemplate this. I know.
      Because it speaks of friendship.
And your whole rump nation is predicated now on hostility, hate, aggression and it's eating the soul out of you all..

I mean I can't totally dismiss this as even Russia propaganda has some truth in it.
This helps me understand more of why this whole conflict doesn't make sense, why anything traditionally hasn't been done and why western structured command isn't being followed or why all the western trained troops are hardly anywhere to be found.
(because they are only protecting Kiev)
So basically this is Syria 2.0?
I would argue this "USA" (we call it either US or America btw) conspiracy is total BS, why? because 20+ years civil service has shown me many inner workings in the US and I can promise there isn't any "grand plan" or dark inner workings to cause death to people. 100% simply defensive and sadly most policies are, until someone is dead we don't take action. These are in stone policies for all branches.

@@kindnuguz I am not sure if I understand you. You are talking about my post? I simply point to things that are publicly acknowledged. Widely known, well documented.
I have some knowledge of bureaucracies and can relate to what you say about their inertia. But what's in play here are the controller of the bureaucracies. Not the bureaucrats.
And we don't need any concerned pre planning either. The notion is that the USA is run by an ad hoc cabal of interested parties. Mainly, of course, the oligarchs. The MIC for instance. And the Fed and the Rothschilds behind it.
Govts make decisions day by day according to the dictates of those interested parties. Today to please these, tomorrow to please those. So it can look kinda wild, contradictory, senseless. And so it is, overall. But to each player in his own bubble at the time it makes perfect sense that he gets what he wants there and then.
