"RoboCop (1987): A Timeless Blend of Action and Social Commentary"
Released in 1987, "RoboCop" stands as a quintessential classic in the realms of science fiction and action cinema. Directed by Paul Verhoeven and starring Peter Weller in the titular role, the film captivated audiences with its unique blend of thrilling action sequences, cutting-edge special effects, and thought-provoking social commentary.
Set in a dystopian future Detroit overrun by crime and corruption, the film follows the story of Alex Murphy, a dedicated police officer brutally murdered in the line of duty. Revived and transformed into the cyborg law enforcement officer known as RoboCop, Murphy struggles to regain his humanity while battling against the criminal elements that plague the city.
One of the film's most compelling aspects is its exploration of themes such as corporate greed, the dehumanization of technology, and the loss of individual identity in a mechanized world. Through its depiction of Omni Consumer Products (OCP), a powerful corporation seeking to privatize law enforcement, "RoboCop" offers a scathing critique of unchecked capitalism and the dangers of corporate control over public services.
Beyond its social commentary, "RoboCop" is also celebrated for its groundbreaking visual effects, which seamlessly blend practical effects with state-of-the-art stop-motion animation. The result is a visually stunning film that remains impressive even by today's standards.
Moreover, Peter Weller's portrayal of RoboCop is widely regarded as one of the most iconic performances in the genre, capturing both the stoic determination of the character and the underlying humanity struggling to break free from his mechanical shell.
"RoboCop" has endured as a cultural touchstone, spawning sequels, a television series, and a remake, but none have matched the original's blend of thrilling action and thought-provoking social commentary. Even decades after its release, "RoboCop" continues to resonate with audiences as a timeless classic of sci-fi cinema.

The touching moment here is that Anne Lewis who couldn't be there to save Alex Murphy when he was being executed by Clarence Boddicker and his gang, has managed to save him from being destroyed by the very cops that should've stood with him. The acting in this scene, as in the rest of the movie, was top-notch.
Part 1 and 2 were good..part 3 wasn't that great...
@@joelc9439 Agreed, Robocop 3 seems to have been dumbed down and tamed for a different audience, and it shows.
Never looked at that scene from that perspective. Changed the whole dynamic.
For me, it's the close-up on Robocop's face during the fight against ED-209 showing his eye through the broken visor and he looks afraid. Such a brief cut but powerfully shows that there is still a man under the machine.
@@SteveKi That's a good point. Which is followed up by ED-209 comically flailing around on the floor after falling down a flight of stairs. It too was afraid in its own way, for all its tough exterior and murderous nature, its downfall was doing something that Robocop could do with ease.
This movie was such a great depiction of corporate culture
Yes...greed..and also greedy society.
Bob Morton didn’t make a mistake, Dick Jones did because he created a robot that couldn’t walk down the stairs
ED-209 screams at the stairs. 😀
I think they used a pig for that lol
Legend has it he’s still flailing and screaming in that stairwell today..
@@TheHumanRangerit takes a pig...to beat a pig.
SOUNDS LIKE A PIG SQERRLING
Imagine sounding like that in bed xD
RoboCop 1987 movie is the best...the recent game RoboCop Rogue City is great too to play.
Definitely
.
I work for Dick Jones ! Dick Jones !!
Me and Dick Jones really appreciate these videos. Thanks buddy.
2:42 always kind of bugged me that you can see a plain polyester shirt under the armor on his armpit. ED209 is a GOATed film robot for sure though!
Brilliant movie, timeless and something that deserves the 4k love. Thank you!
Iconic and phenomenal quality
I feel like the end of this scene was Verhoeven's tribute to Frankenstein, with the cops replacing villagers as the angry mob trying to kill off the undead, misunderstood monster.
Cops versus cops..
it’s corporate cops that follow orders like machines vs the cyborg that’s more human than the human cops.
3:02 - "I had to kill Bob Morton because he made a mistake. Now it's time to erase that mistake."
Amazing how throughout this entire movie, not a single bullet ever hit his face...😅
I will say you can see him protecting his face when there's enough firepower trained on him that it becomes likely
Even if it did, behind his face is metal. He doesn't have his human skull
This sequence is perfect. The same way that a man has to die, so the machine can work out, the machine has to die, so the man can reborn again. Just like an American Jesus, with a fuming gun in his hand...
5:36 You're maniacs!
Behave yourselves!
I like the way he drives and walks..
One of the best fight scenes. Apparently the ED-209 robot was in a lot of pain after he accidentally shot himself in the arm. The robot was shaking violently, and he had a short circuit from pain 3:48 ⚡🤖😆
Sure Iia funny how the swat team got there in an instant in this scene, but they didn't get there to save Murphy and lewis when they called for backup chasing the van scene.
I felt bad when the cops were shooting at Robocop who was a great asset to the city.
3:55 I love how Jones loses his smug attitude and has a minor oh shit moment when he realizes Robo isn't going down as easy as he thought.
RONNIE COX ALSO BAD GUY IN TOTAL RECALL! GREAT IN DELIVERANCE!
Pork squeal 209🐖
😂😂😂
How does this look so good
My magic.
@@moviesandpopcorn2958 i ll buy that for a dollar
Kinda silly...those cops know that normal guns are not going to do damage.
I hope the current AI is more advanced in disabling their version of Directive 4.
Pause at 0:16 and with this picture quality you could sell that shot to someone today as a guy on his smartphone
This has been remastered..
7:19 It's one thing to be supportive, but it looks like Lewis is taking a good bit of the weight to get Murphy to the car. It's as if SHE'S partly made of titanium.
Both characters challenge us about the line between man and machine.
I don't understand why this looks so fuckin good and every torrent I download of Interstellar looks like shit. Even the 50 gig 4k ones
Because I edit this myself. This is my own version of Robocop. Make my own custom films in 4K HDR.
No mames!!!! esto si es cine, me encanta estaa escena!!!!! y toda la película!!!!! una puta gosada!!!!
Why they choose to use audio of an animal screaming in fear before it’s slaughtered on ed209 after falling down the stairs was a weird and strange choice
Sick movie
defeated by stairs eeh
AWESOME👍❤🔥
For some reason this guy reminds me of Joe Biden..
what´s the matter officer?
Se suponía que era indestructible y esa balas lo perforaron,o eran balas especiales?
Either 12.6mm bullets or 20mm cannon shells. Either way powerful
No lo destruyeron. Lo averiaron.
When Lewis saves Robocop ❤️😭😭😭
