    In his interview with Justin Hawkins, Ren spoke about how many different things he tried to ease his suffering, including seeing a Shaman, and seeing an Exorcist. He reached out in every direction and to multiple 'Gods' and asked questions about why his life was so hard.

      I can’t think of a song writer who has more vocal religious iconography in their music than Ren. There are so many biblical references in his music that it’s extraordinary.

    • @MissMeKate
      @MissMeKate Год назад +5

      @@supertuscans9512 I think part of that is because he often weaves it in as pop-culture rather than something as loaded as 'faith'. He uses Noah and Genesis the same way he might reel off Tom Cruise films or Bond references, and I think part of that is because he's said he loves the stories and folkloric mythology of religion more than anything. He is respectful but not reverential, which gives him more flexibility, and I like the fact that here and in Hi Ren he refers to 'gods' plural as well as more traditional Christian 'his hand/his plan' imagery. It allows people to pick up or put down those elements to suit their own beliefs.

    This song/video is heartbreaking in its honesty from Ren. I don't think a person has really LIVED, until they've (unfortunately) reached this point in their lives where they call/cry out for help. To feel that Unbearable PAIN, whether mental, physical or emotional, is part of our human existence. How YOU, as a human being, personally respond to that pain, is what makes you special and unique.
    I believe, if you've lived long enough, every one of us will get to where Ren was when he wrote this song. The problem is, in this day and age of "Online Presence", most people only Show the Positive sides of their lives. No one wants to show their "perfect" life imploding for the whole world to see. So, we look around, and see that everyone else has their "stuff" together; why is OUR life falling apart?
    It's gotten to the point, that when we DO see someone's life falling apart, it's even that much more shocking. Steven Crowder's life is blowing up in front of our eyes, and he's being shown to NOT be the "Perfect Example" of what a man is, and it's even that much more shocking. The reality is......when your life really does come crashing down around you, even if you have 3 million, 5 million, 10 million followers; in the End, more than likely you are almost completely alone.

  • @TheGothicLibrarian
    @TheGothicLibrarian Год назад +7

    Not only he was in really bad pain both physically and psychologically, but he thought he wasn't gonna live for much longer. After I learned that, the line in "Hi Ren" when he says "and maybe when I'm gone I'll be remembered, for doing something great with myself" hits so much differently, at first I just thought he didn't expect to ever become famous, not in his lifetime at least, but now I know that at the time he hadn't started all his treatments yet and so he was literally talking about leaving a legacy. Makes also a lot more sense as to why he's so wise, when you think you only have a couple years left to live at barely 30 years of age, you think deep about a lot of things. And after all of that, he's still making music, still fighting, still finding happiness. It's honestly such a big inspiration for me, because when I feel like something is impossible to do because my depression tells me so, I think of all that he overcame, and suddenly I have more strength. And for that I'll forever be thankful to him.

    Ren's 'Dear God' is the message we all pen at some point in our lives. There is always a point--even if you perhaps don't believe in God now--where you will reach and question. This makes me think of 'Hi Ren' where HOPE counters the devil inside Ren. My belief is God is in everyone and every being and our struggle for balance is true LIFE. Look inside yourself.

    Great reaction as always Cedric and Brian! I understood where Ren was coming from. I've known many with the same thoughts. I was blessed to have my faith my entire life. I'll be 49 in a couple weeks. I had extreme abuse at a young age from my biological mother. I then was raised by my wonderful father. Who then got sick and taken from me. I've lost all family. (Besides husband, children and grandkids) Watched people die so cruel like and in suffering. But still I don't blame God. The way I am see things is I know I will be in a beautiful afterlife, God always provides for me on earth. It might not be what I want but I get what I need. When children suffer, that is the hardest for me. I remember my oldest son who is 31 now, ask me when he was real young..why does God allow starvation, death and abuse to children. I told him God does not allow it, the evil on earth does. He said but God is powerful and could stop it. I tried explaining to him that God does not interfere. It is for the faithful to keep strong and know in the end, all good will overcome.

    A little bit about myself I'm 54 years old and since I was 19 I've suffered with Fibromyalgia and Muscle Fatigue Syndrome so I'm in constant pain everyday and I will be honest I'm not religious in any way but I've found myself at times if there is a God asking why did he give me this life of constant suffering and another question I also find myself asking if reincarnation is real am I being punished for sins I commented in a previous life
    I know these questions will never be answered but still I sometimes ask

    Always amazes me how overtly religious many Americans seem to be, and they are confused when the majority of those outside the USA aren't! Here in the UK the biggest difference is that we seperate politics / law / education from religion. You have to opt into a religious education. Just 27% of the UK believe in god(s). Ren's been through a lot and has openly talked about turning to any religion he can to seek solace or comfort from his pain (physical & neurological) from Christianity to Shamanism. Life is short, believe in what you will, but please don't assume others think the same. You guys are great reactors don't get me wrong. I just personally hate all religion, as in the man made self-selving bullsh!t spouted. Ren seems to stand for lifting others up and connecting regardless of faith, ethnicity, sexuality, gender etc. Infact the only faith I have is in humanity...and the only thing close to religion?....music. It's universal and unifying.

    Yay, Cedric, that was Pseudo-Dionysius! He went further and argued that, since good is divine as is being, nothing that exists can be fully evil, because that would mean fully being without the light that is creation. Gothic architecture was built as a theology in stone for the the definition of light as the divine good, and the light shining through the stained glass window of a medieval church are designed to be inspired and illuminated by that divine light. The colourful reflection on tge floor and tge space in between would thus also become inspired place.

    I like that Ren pointed out that there have been wars and violence in the name of God and religion. Because I've never heard of any spiritual people starting wars and committing violence in the name of spirituality. Anyways basing off of Brian's comment about spiritual people. It sounded like he doesn't know much about spirituality. Because spiritual people believe in good and evil, just like religious people do. Also spiritual people believe that people have good and evil in them. So Brian unless I misheard you. You said that spiritual people should read about the good and bad things that have happened in history. Well I think that you should read more about spirituality and what spiritual people believe. Oh fun fact, Hinduism is the oldest religion in the world. Which means Hinduism is older than Christianity. And Hindu people tend to consider themselves spiritual people. By the way I'm not Hindu and I'm not religious. But I am a spiritual person and I do in God. Brian I just don't like the comment you made about spiritual people.

      That’s why I think it’s a beautiful thing when agnostics, atheists, etc., etc. instinctively reach out to Him in times of trouble because, in my personal opinion, we have this innate desire to worship, and acknowledge, our Creator.

    A belief is a conclusion one arrives at. It doesn't matter how one arrives at their beliefs because a belief requires zero explanation to be or exist. You and you alone decide in your beliefs. Faith can be arrived at but unlike a belief faith resides in the foundation of hope. Like a belief faith requires zero explanation to be and again is yours alone to choose should you choose as such. Faith is often associated with expressing one's position to, or relationship with what one believes when pertaining to a higher deity, or God. An oath of sorts to bolster one's commitment to their chosen belief. Neither have any governing attributes or rules of language tying their use exclusively to God or a higher deity when the subject. You can hold a belief in anything and have faith in everything should you choose to and no one can stop you doing so. What you choose will be real and true to you. You may choose to have no beliefs and faith in nothing at all. Again, your choice and no one can stop you and this also will be real and true to you. So now getting to the point of all this I ask,
    What is it you really believe in and what is it you really have faith in? Only one word and you all know the answer. You know the answer so much better than anything else you know. It is written above in plain sight. It is you and you alone who will know that you are correct when you know it is you. I have faith in you, I believe in you. Just as I believe in and have faith in me too. This much I know to be true

    Can I ask that you don't equate MacDonald w/ Ren? Seriously, one is full of vile spite and hate for what appears to be damn near everything that doesn't glorify himself, the other wants people to live and build each other up, they're so incredibly different in perspective that even mentioning them in the same sentence is offensive.

    you have that backwards... cold is just the absence of heat. darkness is just the absence of light.. you can take a light into darkness but you cant take dark into light. The idea is then proposed that good and evil work similar. Evil is just the absence of good. But, I contest that this is an arbitrary abstraction and is inaccurate based on the fact that both heat and light are measurable quantities while good is not. You might as well say that Good is just the absence of evil, which is more appro po if you really consider it. Many would say that they both have their own scales and levels to be measured by, separate and distinct..... but I, personally, believe that neither actually exist. What you qualify as good and I qualify as good and another person calls good are all different, either slightly or widely in areas.... and if there is no objective consensual 'good' and only millions of subjective concepts, then it doesn't exist outside our perception and isn't actually a thing... merely a portion of our individual experience along with our likes and dislikes, which we claim not to impose on others and give wide berths to when we speak about them. preferences, really.

      It’s not snobbish. It’s just an analogy to illustrate the point that 99% of people won’t acknowledge the fact that they need God in their lives, until a situation arises where they actually need him. You are in the 1%, and should be commended for that. Thank you for watching our channel. - C -

    Hi Cedric, I'm being a pedant here, but you don't measure heat by the absence of cold, nor light by the absence of darkness. Those are both nulls, a lack of action, which is the eventual default given entropy. The bit that worried me was you said here's the keys, but there will be repercussions, but that implies punishment engendering an atmosphere of fear, whereas using the word consequences doesn't place yourself in a position of judgement, it says that the subject should take responsibility. Sorry if this comes off as overly confrontational, that's not intended, was just that that phrasing really jumped out at me having heard similar in the past

      Love it!!! I appreciate your response my friend, and don’t ever worry about being confrontational with me because you’ve come off as extremely polite, congenial, and just expressing your point of view.
      In short, I was saying, God has given us free will, but there will still be consequences for our actions.
      I can leave my house right now, and go rob the local bank; and God will forgive me if I ask Him to…. but I’ll still serve time in jail. (At least, we used to but now it seems the judicial system will ascertain how much I really needed the money before handing down punishment 🤷🏽‍♂️😉)
      In all sincerity, I appreciate you taking the time to comment, because Lord knows I don’t have all the right answers, and I would be a sad, sorry individual if I couldn’t take the time to entertain, and respect, another persons point of view.

      @@CedricandBrian That's all good, glad you understood it was a question not an accusation. Thank you for the response. I'm English and maybe it's just slightly different uses of words, but yeah "repercussions" seems very different to "consequences" to my ears. I definitely hear your point about how the judiciary seems more about money than justice these days, we don't have as many privately managed jails as you guys yet, but it does feel that slavery is never far from the door, just always transferred from one group to another. Have a cracking day, and cheers for the responses, have enjoyed watching the pair of you dive down the Ren rabbithole. That said tell Brian he doesn't need to stick his shades on, we're all allowed to have emotional responses, this is a safe space
