Great player from a Wexford man, tough as nails and a serious grafter, himself and Liam Dunne broke hurls off one another for a good many year..

John i agree with you 100% John Power was a tough cookie Another Hard man was Colin Lynch of Clare who would have been around the same time as John Power of Kilkenny you can imagine if they both marked each other on the field of play they would have been timber broke it would be some battle they where both absolute warriors on the field.

I remember John well. One in particular he got the curly finger and on his way off the field he caught a ball and drove it high over the bar. Class act great man.

As an Offaly man I was delighted John was dropped in 1998.

John Power would have came up against Colin Lynch in the 1997 and 1999 All-Ireland semi-finals and 2002 All-Ireland Final

Colin Lynch of Clare vs John Power of Kilkenny would be like two Heavyweights in a Boxing ring doing battle

All I remember of Colin is him losing the run of himself in that famous throw in in that Munster final against Waterford in '98.

What about the semplegate affair the 2007 Munster Hurling Quarter Final between Cork and Clare @@Hanamy7777 remember the fight that happened when both teams came out of the tunnel in semple stadium at the same time Colin Lynch was involved in that and him and about 4 other Clare players got suspended and i think about 4 Cork Hurlers got handed down suspensions aswell.

I could listen to John speak all day . A proper Kilkenny hurler . Maybe I took it up the wrong way , but I thought the interviewer was a bit of a smart-arse . When you have the calibre of a hurler like John Power giving his time , you let him speak . Still remember the 1993 intermediate final that Thomastown should have won but Callan clawed them back and John put the nail in the coffin with a point near the end .

One of the toughest I've seen and that's coming from a Welford man

I wouldn’t agree with your comment about the interviewer as I thought he showed respect and was just doing an interviewers job of coaxing the conversation along. John Power and Ger Henderson, two great players with courage and determination to burn in the cause of Kilkenny hurling - great times to witness at the time.

Didn’t stop him playing on that day, didn’t do him any harm in the years that followed either. There’s many a player who spent an hour playing against him who probably felt as they’d also been in a tangle with barbed wire. Possibly one of the toughest & hardest men ever to play the game.
