    Blaise, two things:
    1) I was so hoping early on that you'd go linuxcnc so I could just copy what you did on my fadal. One can hope.
    2) I don't have a way to contact you directly but wanted to let you know that I made a fixture the other day that I would NEVER have dreamed up if I hadn't seen your awesome Fusion 360 video. You had one fixture that used miteebites to press against a piece of aluminum with a thin section that could flex. I thought it was genius!
    I had a somewhat similar need and made a fixture to hold some 25mmX44mm parts and it works fantastically. I wanted to share it with you and let you know you helped me out a ton by sharing your approach! If I have a way to do it, I'll either make a video or take some pictures from Fusion 360 and tell you about it.

    • @BlaiseBarrette
      @BlaiseBarrette 2 года назад

      Hey Bill! Wow! I would love to see your fixture!
      I thought it was a good idea that mini soft jaw thingy! I have been using it a lot in my fixtures at work since. Very happy that it works for you to!
      As for LinuxCNC... sorry! It might have been a better choice!? I don't know but so far I am very happy with how flexible UCCNC is. Their's nothing I avent been able to do in terms of adding features and modifying the interface. And also it is working very nicely with a touch screen so I am clear from using keyboard and mouse. Hopefully it performs well motion wise. Time will tell.

      @@BlaiseBarrette I'm going to just export the file to a Fusion archive and send it your way along with a couple of pictures. The files are a bit sketch, but it'll make sense when you see it.
      Once I realized what you were doing with the flexible pieces of aluminum I knew I'd use it. My design uses through-bolts instead of mitee bite clamps, and it pulls two flexible pieces inwards, each one clamping a separate part. So I get two pieces clamped from one screw! Makes things really fast and efficient to swap stock and parts.
      I had been doing these in soft jaws, and once I realized how my design would work I realized it fixed another issue with soft jaws. The vise and fixed jaw flex a little bit and I noticed each time I made soft jaws I'd have to dial in the work offset to get things just perfect. When you're making chamfers that are only .2mm, having one side at .16 and the other at .24 is actually easily noticed with my 54 year old eyes, so I fine tuned each setup.
      But, because my fixture is fixed and the clamping forces are equal there is no movement or flexing that needs to be accounted for. I am VERY happy with the setup and wouldn't have thought of it without your example! I might upload some videos as well, and put them back up here.
      If you're ever in the Dallas, Texas area, I owe you the beverage of your choice. Take me up on it!

    So I am home with the flu today and binge watched you Fadal rebuild video series. Very impressive work. But I don't understand why you are not using the factory electronics. If I remember correctly, your first instalment talked about the machine being three phase & you only had single phase at home? I have owned several 4020's and ran numerous other ones in other shops... we ran them all on single phase. I think there is a slight loss of spindle power doing that?

My main advice is only do it if you have time. Don’t expect to have a machine up and running for a while. It is a lot of work!

    Hello! Was there a specific reason behind the esp32? I'm looking forward to see if the noise picked up by the antenna make problems.

    • @BlaiseBarrette
      @BlaiseBarrette 2 года назад

      So far there are two esp32, one in the control and one on the motherboard. They don’t deal with any crucial systems. The one in the control decodes the three encoder buttons, control the LED of the buttons and read modbus for status ont some systems. On the motherboard, it monitors the charge pump emitted by the UC300ETH, modbus communication and has control over a few of the relays and is used to read some of the sensors. All the signal wires are twisted, shielded ant connected to ground at one end and the most critical signals like the servo encoder signals are differential pairs.

      I wondered the same thing as I really like my old Fadal 88HS control. But I think he just wanted the challenge and the project. It should be exactly what he wants when he done, but man that's a lot of work for something that's not proven to give good results yet. Good on him for taking it on and it is interesting to see, but personally I'd rather already making parts with old control.
