Agreed. There are no arguments to be made about which is better, short of talking about which one you personally like more for whatever reason -- everyone has their favorite, after all (mine being Ratchet and Clank). These series are some of the greatest examples of why the PS2 was arguably the greatest gaming console (operative word here being 'arguably').
Why did most of you come here just to complain and say ratchet and Clank is better?!. If you like ratchet and clank better that's perfectly fine. But this is the JAK AND DAXTER COLLECTION review. NOT ratchet and clank or sly. All 3 of the collections are great, with my personal favorites being Jak and Sly. They are all awesome, and all only for playstation so we're lucky to even have them.

I had all 3 on my PS2, absolutely loved it. I got rid of my PS2 without thinking when I got the 3. Realized I screwed up and I could never play the Jack games again, I actually forgot the story by now so realizing that it's on the 3 is so awesome!
Naughty dog is the one reason that I sometimes wish I went ps3. I mean, I love halo and that stuff but I do sometimes wish I could play games like this and uncharted. When I had a ps2 though these games were awesome.
The precursor legacy was my favorite. It felt more like an adventure and had so much stuff to collect. I just love colecting stuff. Yes, of course Jak 2 and 3 were more epic and badass in a story, and adding guns, and Dark and Light jak, but... I still love the first one more.
jak 3 was probably the best, the sheer amount of content in that game was just amazing and so ahead of its time. If it was released now it would be pretty standard
I was thinking about buying the Jak and Daxter collection and I was honestly surprised that Jak 3 was a PS2 game. I played it years ago, but it was so big, and looked so good, I guess I just remembered it as an early PS3 game. lol
I just bought this trilogy for my PS3 today. I grew up with a Super Nintendo and a PS1. My first games were "Aladdin," "The Lion King," "Super Mario World," "The Legend of Zelda - A Link To The Past," and "Crash Bandicoot." I adore all of these games, especially Crash Bandicoot. That being said, I heard about the Jak and Dexter games in my teenage years, but I haven't gotten around to playing it until now as a wife and mom. I am very impressed with how fun the first game is, and I look forward to beating them all in order. I have a soft spot for games like this. (And yes, I've played the first "Sly Cooper," which I loved as well, but I haven't gotten around to "Ratchet and Clank.")

I have one very minor complaint. Mass Media apparently forgot about overscan when remastering Jak 3, because part of the HUD when driving buggies is too close to the edge and so can get cut off. Developers are supposed to compensate by keeping important content out of the overscan area.
Jak 2 was my start. I geeked when I saw precursor legends in a yard sell for 2 dollars! Got jak 3 and absolutely loved it the best! Jak x was depressing. But lost frontier was stunning and awesome.
Out of curiosity, what did you find depressing regarding Jak x? I also like lost frontier for what it is, it's just much harder to find favourable things to say about it compared to the other games..
when I said ray, i meant the projectile, not the weapon. jak would always have a shield and still be able to use his weapons. you cant negate a time freeze. if jak freezes, clank would be able to move to freeze time. reaction time is negated while frozen in time. ratchet wont even know what was done.
Has anyone else noticed Sly and Jak COMPLETELY changed after the first game? Like more open world? While Ratchet stayed the same. I always found that weird. But I'm glad Ratchet stayed the same because it was amazing
Ratchet and Clank builds on 1 solid gameplay type, while Jak and Daxter keep changing. And Ratchet and Clank have a continuing storyline to this day. And a damn good one at that.
This makes me remeber those saturday after noons as a child playing Jak and Dexter, Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank, Or Spyro. Ahhh those were such good times.
If you were one of those people who kept hearing about this series but never played it(like me), then do yourself a favor and buy this! Its only 20$ on the psn and well worth it. Always wanted to play the series to see why everyone loved this or keeps begging for jak 4 and now i see why. 1 is really just a 3d platformer much like banjo or Mario but with it has its own touch to it. Collecting was pretty easy and fair and i'm actually close to 100 percent(98), i am now currently playing 2 and it kicks ass. My main problem with 2 is just the hub world, it comes off to annoying to me
I'll probley just buy it physically (if I can) because I only feel like I've properly spent my money when I can put something on the shelf. That's just me though

AllOutWar5000and1 its worth noting that the digital version is cross buy. So if you have a vita or plan on getting one in the future then digital is the way to go.
The issue with Jak and Daxter in my opinion is as the series progresses the games get worse whereas with the Ratchet & Clank trilogy the games get better. The first Jak and Daxter game in my opinion was the best as after it the series became too similar to Ratchet & Clank but the gun play and missions were not as good in comparison. I felt that the controls were clunky in Jak 2 and 3. I will however offer the series praise as the story improves in Jak 2 and 3 but Ratchet & Clank had better game play and more creative weapons which in my opinion is more important that the story. I felt that there was bad checkpoint balancing in Jak 2 and 3 which I found frustrating, notably a mission in Jak 2 where Jak has to guide people through the sewers near the end there is a Metal Head ambush and if Jak dies during that the whole mission has to be done again. My scores out of 10 for the two series. Ratchet & Clank: 9 Jak and Daxter: 8
I've never played Jak and Daxter before, so when I got the HD collection I was excited to finally see what the hype was about. I completely believed in the fun and greatness of the series when I played the first one, and was disappointed and jaded with the sequels. Naughty Dog turned the fun platformer into a generic GTA wannabe with janky controls and unresponsive vehicles. Jak 2 and Jak 3 honestly felt like failed Uncharted prototypes whereas Jak and Daxter was the only game worth playing in this whole collection.
Shield chargers up, Clank gives him immunity from time manipulation. Also being a lombax and techinically feline he has better reaction time. Also it's a ray not a gun. So it can technically work.
A new Sly Cooper game is coming in 2016, I thought that was a bit obvious due to the movie coming out. A Jak movie listing was leaked *along* with the Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, and Heavenly Sword movies, which have all been confirmed as of now. That just leaves Jak, and I'm pretty sure it's coming in 2017, so expect a trailer in 2015.

Being a fanboy is so childish to me. Do you realize how many good games were on the ps2 ALONE? The list goes on and on, as a gamer enjoy all the games you play. I finished Jak 1 and I fucking loved it. I'm now on Jak 2 and have been playing it for a while. Omg it is so boring what the hell happened. Is it just me or is Jak 2 just not fun and boring?
Jak 2 is just a much darker and serious game. Huge tonal shift from the first one, but it really showed off Naughty Dog's writing and storytelling chops.
Raiden Crow I loved Jak 2. After you ride the car thing in the tunnels to get to Haven city in Jak 3 and you reach that cool level where you shoot the buttons to crash the trains, it gets fun. Especially when you fight that robot in the cave area.
Oh yeah dude, i love all the Jak games. They're some of Naughty Dog's best, and you can totally see the seeds of their more recent projects in Jak 2 and 3

First- It's Jak and Daxter Second- Naughty Dog developed both of them, so there are some similarities Third- Crash Bandicoot is a linear platfrom game while Jak and Daxter is a totally non-linear sandbox game,so it isn't a rip off.

when i was 5 years old, i played and beat jack and daxter precursor legacy, NO LIE!!!! like 4 times, i got the HD collection when it come out and i pass the 1st game from 1 day to the other, AND Platinum it!! after all those years, the game was clearly in my mind

It's not backwards compatible. I recommend getting a Ps4, and waiting for a price drop. Probably about 2015. Then go buy all the exclusive HD remakes, and all the amazing exclusives. Play multi-player games with friends, and get single player experiences on the console with the better controller for you.

Honestly this review isn't a review really. Its WAY too biased and I believe that its just Jack gushing on the 3 games. He only gave the game a 9 because of nostalgia. Yeah I'll admit I played all 3 of the ps2 series on the remake collections and the ps2 itself but really I believe all of them are equally good. I'm taking about the HD collections. The actual series sold more than 8 million. Along with Jak, but Ratchet was a bit higher for the Ps2 era. I was just pointing out how even though Ratchet made games on the Ps3, and continued the fanbase Jak still sold better when the classics were brought back.
i have set myself a mission to retrieve all my childhood games between the ps1 and ps2. naughty dog, insomniac games and umbisoft have fare lot of games to hunt down if you start to think about it without thinking about any other games
Jak 3 was definitely one of the best ps2 games. I wish they make Jak 4 with the same feeling i got originally playing jak 3, the feeling that it's ahead of it's time.
Nah, that was Naughty Dog. Insomniac and Naughty Dog have a lot of similarities in their games, though, because the companies used to work together in the same building. Naughty Dog: Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted. Insomniac: Spyro The Dragon, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance. I believe Crash and Spyro were sold to Vivendi games, which is why the newer ones aren't worth playing.
He's right Jak is the better game out of the Sly & Ratchet. Not only was Jak born first, but his games got rated best platformers and action/adventure game. He also has a higher rank as a top character of all time then ratchet. NOT TO MENTION A LOT OF PPL DON'T KNOW RATCHET & CLANK WAS MADE BECAUSE OF JAK. The dev who made R&C were interested in J&D so they came up with their ratchet.
The first one or the third one by many fans. Jak 2 is difficult, but it has the best story, so...the 1 one. Huge island, collecting so much orbs and ecos. Platformer gamer's dream come true :)

Actually Sly 4 was a pretty big success, sold almost a million with low budget (and only 60 people developing it), basically rebooting the series.
Loved playing this, ratchet and clank, and sly cooper. Back when I still had my ps2.. sadly the xbox doesn't have any nice games like this.
To all Jak fans those 2 don't exist. So let's try this again, we're still waiting for Jak 4 here.

ratchet clank games are better made. i always had a stupid smile when playing ratchet clank. but when played jak daxter. i raged like a idiot. there was a lot of problem in jak.

Being a fanboy is so childish to me. Do you realize how many good games were on the ps2 ALONE? The list goes on and on, as a gamer enjoy all the games you play. Because i guarantee you.. there will come a time another franchise kicks off and you might like another set of games way more than your so called "favorite(s) of all time."

I finished Jak 1 and I fucking loved it. I'm now on Jak 2 and have been playing it for a while. Omg it is so boring what the hell happened. Is it just me or is Jak 2 just not fun and boring?
Jak 2 is just a much darker and serious game. Huge tonal shift from the first one, but it really showed off Naughty Dog's writing and storytelling chops.
Raiden Crow I loved Jak 2. After you ride the car thing in the tunnels to get to Haven city in Jak 3 and you reach that cool level where you shoot the buttons to crash the trains, it gets fun. Especially when you fight that robot in the cave area.
Oh yeah dude, i love all the Jak games. They're some of Naughty Dog's best, and you can totally see the seeds of their more recent projects in Jak 2 and 3

Stop arguing over which collection is best, they all have their strengths. Can't we just be happy that R&C, Jak, and Sly are receiving support to be maintained?
First- It's Jak and Daxter
Second- Naughty Dog developed both of them, so there are some similarities
Third- Crash Bandicoot is a linear platfrom game while Jak and Daxter is a totally non-linear sandbox game,so it isn't a rip off.

when i was 5 years old, i played and beat jack and daxter precursor legacy, NO LIE!!!! like 4 times, i got the HD collection when it come out and i pass the 1st game from 1 day to the other, AND Platinum it!! after all those years, the game was clearly in my mind

Jak and Daxter is one of the best series to be ever made for the playstation and like you said yourself, the best 3D platformer, which none of the newer games can live up to. Jak and Daxter sets the standards for games of this genre, if this is not a 10, what is?
It's not backwards compatible. I recommend getting a Ps4, and waiting for a price drop. Probably about 2015. Then go buy all the exclusive HD remakes, and all the amazing exclusives. Play multi-player games with friends, and get single player experiences on the console with the better controller for you.
The Sly collection sold 510,000 units. More than Ratchet almost as much as Jak. But it was out for about 2 years more.
The reviewer clearly says his opinion about the series and i respect it. Jak 3 has one of the most important games of my life... i don't know why people are arguing about his opinion... and i think Jak and Dexter is Way better than Ratchet & Clank... but i really enjoy Ratchet & Clank too...

No, Sly has been in the works since 1999. Just because they released it later doesn't mean they started wokring on if after J&D. Get your facts right.
Man, I remember playing Jak 1 on my PS2 when I was just a child... One of the first PS2 games I got.
Honestly this review isn't a review really. Its WAY too biased and I believe that its just Jack gushing on the 3 games. He only gave the game a 9 because of nostalgia. Yeah I'll admit I played all 3 of the ps2 series on the remake collections and the ps2 itself but really I believe all of them are equally good. But yeah he didn't talk about the games themselves at all. He just said "he liked it" over and over again. Ok dude we get it what about the games themselves???????
Jak 5?! What are you smoking?! Naughty dog has made THREE Jak games, aside from the spinoff Jak X!
I'm taking about the HD collections. The actual series sold more than 8 million. Along with Jak, but Ratchet was a bit higher for the Ps2 era. I was just pointing out how even though Ratchet made games on the Ps3, and continued the fanbase Jak still sold better when the classics were brought back.
i have set myself a mission to retrieve all my childhood games between the ps1 and ps2. naughty dog, insomniac games and umbisoft have fare lot of games to hunt down if you start to think about it without thinking about any other games
Jak 3 was definitely one of the best ps2 games. I wish they make Jak 4 with the same feeling i got originally playing jak 3, the feeling that it's ahead of it's time.
Nah, that was Naughty Dog. Insomniac and Naughty Dog have a lot of similarities in their games, though, because the companies used to work together in the same building. Naughty Dog: Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted. Insomniac: Spyro The Dragon, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance. I believe Crash and Spyro were sold to Vivendi games, which is why the newer ones aren't worth playing.

He's right Jak is the better game out of the Sly & Ratchet. Not only was Jak born first, but his games got rated best platformers and action/adventure game. He also has a higher rank as a top character of all time then ratchet. NOT TO MENTION A LOT OF PPL DON'T KNOW RATCHET & CLANK WAS MADE BECAUSE OF JAK. The dev who made R&C were interested in J&D so they came up with their ratchet.

The first one or the third one by many fans. Jak 2 is difficult, but it has the best story, so...the 1 one. Huge island, collecting so much orbs and ecos. Platformer gamer's dream come true :)
I think Ratchet and Clank and Jak & Daxter are BOTH just as amazing! And they can only be played on Playstation Systems, so what's the argument about guys? Play both franchises! I'm sure you guys will love it for those of you that haven't :)
