You're very lucky and fortunate to have gotten out of the canyon without injury or worse. We should always be prepared to spend the night on the trail in the event any unforeseen injury might occur. Especially if you are hiking alone. Like the guy you ran into who ran out of water and had no water filter. Had he been solo, he would have been in serious trouble. I give you credit for at least acknowledging it was too dangerous and you wont be going back.
If you don't mind my asking, how old are you? I'm in my early 60's, good shape, but I wonder if something like this would still be out of my capability.
I was a month before my 57th birthday. Backpacking and staying overnight is the more efficient way to fish this stream but with all of my camera equipment that just gets too heavy for such a difficult route.
I have to say, forget filming and go spend a couple days on that river. Also, be more diverse in your lure selection. There are a lot of fish there. Trust me. As for the big rainbow you left. Never leave fish to find fish. You wouldn’t have wasted time. Just my humble opinion. ✌️
Always have at least two sources of light for any possible after dark adventures !! Wanna keep hearing you say “ Got one ooooh it’s a big one “ !!
Wow! I give you a lot of credit for doing that by yourself!! Nice trout!!!

Good stuff. That's a great spot. Trade waders for beer or whiskey. It's a good weight trade.
Additionally, could you have spent a few nights camping along the river?
