Hi Will, thank you for the video! Congrats on the engagement :) The adapter is really cool and I'm curious to see what else you can do with it! The picture of the ferns is superbe, but some of the other ones were pretty good too. All the best from Berlin, Valentin
Thanks Valentin! Very glad to hear that you enjoyed the video! I've got some ideas cooking up already haha, including one for a use that someone has explained to me it'd be absolutely perfect for so look forward to sharing that exploration haha! All the best to Berlin from Cape Town!
In terms of MF systems that do really well with macro I’d recommend looking at the rollei 6008 as it has dedicated extension tubes bellows and nice Zeiss and Schneider lenses
@willysheepskin Haha, I would to! I was thinking, maybe try to close the square to avoid shadows and still able to estimate the correct distance... if its possible :) The frame isn't correct to start from so that could worth trying, no? Good luck, looking forward to see more 🙌
I like how they thought about the problem, "How can we create a macro system for our range finder cameras", came to the conclusion that it would be impossible to get accurate focus from the range finder and overengineered a solution that also didn't give accurate results.
So, you mean, like they did for the Mamiya 6 rangefinder. There, they skip the funky frame and substitute an optical modifier to the normal rangefinder. Less bulky, easier to manage in use. Konica and Fuji also used the optical alternative for their MF systems when used with a dedicated close-up lens. They are all a pain in the ass to use and get hit-or-miss results.
Hey Will, just to answer your question seeing as I actually have relevant knowledge on this non-photographic topic as a research biologist who has worked with pollinators and primarily wild bees over the last few years. Different bee species will have different preferences but usually it will be wildflowers! If you’re talking honeybees then they like all sorts of flowers as they are much more generalist and it’s also why they are so commonly used as commercial pollinators despite the multitude of issues that can produce. A safe bet though is lavender or sunflowers, those species are very attractive to insect pollinators, hope that helps 😁 anyway great to see you uploading again! Edit: also Congratulations to you and Maya! That’s fantastic news and I wish you all the best! 🎉
Ahh no way thank you so much for the insight Dylan! So awesome that you get to work in that area of research! I'm going to get ahold of you in the near future to have a chat about your area of expertise I reckon, I want to turn this bee maneuver I've been on for a while now into a proper project and having some insights from an expert such as yourself would be wonderful! Thanks so much for checking this out as always, and thanks for your kind wishes regarding the engagement too haha! All the best to you and yours also!
It’s one of the enlargers I used to have in my home darkroom! When we moved the darkroom ceased to be a thing and there’s currently no space here for me to set up another, so the enlargers are existing as ornaments at the moment! Have been spending some time in the Color darkroom lately at the lab though, so could film some thing in that vein again potentially!
Another Willy banger, wouldn't expect anything less! Super cool to see this piece of kit finally getting some use, glad it's now in such capable hands. As everyone else has already pointed out the fern pick is fuego!
Ayyyy another Willy banger entirely thanks to you amigo! Look forward to showing you what I get out of it now that I know how to approach it haha, gonna have to go find some more ferns now!
Was just thinking how I was missing a Sheepskin video! The vibe of you and your videos are so great and unlike any of the other photography channels out there, glad you are back and in good spirits!
Ah thank you so much Dec! Always just try to have fun making and editing these so I'm glad that they come across as their own thing haha! Glad to be back and in good spirits too!
I own the close focus adapter for the GS645 Pro, and it is also sort of a goofy hot shoe finder with everything being up side down and mirrored, but it works surprisingly well. Reminded me of it.
The close up kit for my nikonos is a similar setup as well! Although I hope I can inform my use of it with experience from this kit now since I haven't been able to take it out yet unfortunately since it's missing a piece
Haha keep an eye out! It should always feature unless I've messed up catastrophically lolol! Glad to be back man! And veeery glad that you like the fern image, maybe I'll start specialising in ferns now I know what this kit likes ahah!
I got lucky and snagged one of these kits when I had to replace my beloved 80mm that fell and cracked on set... going to take it for a spin after seeing this!
No way! RIP to the passed 80mm, but scoring one of these kits is epic! Stop down as much as possible haha! Also it got lost in the edit somehow but you use the top of the bracket as refrence for focus, not the bottom/sides since it's angled slightly. If the top is in line with the subject and you're at like f16 I reckon things will work excellently! At least that's what I'm hoping for when I take it out next haha!
@@willysheepskin Thx! Will definitely take that advice. Also, writing on this thread about a different subject entirely but I just watched your Imacon vs. GFX100s comparison and it's compelling me to liquidate my Coolscan 9000 and my Sony A7RIV and pour those funds into investing in a 100s (something I'd noodled over previously). I think it stands to reason that if the GFX is comparable to the Imacon then it's most certainly superior to a Coolscan 9000 in most if not all facets but would love your thoughts. All the work you do is so great and thanks for making these vids!
Whoa, you are absolutely correct Will, that lens renders insanely beautiful images even with the close-up adapter. Congrats on your engagement, super stoked for the both of you! ❤
Thanks so much Shane! Looking forward to getting it set up in a manner that means I don't miss focus/composition quite so often, but it really does seem like it has massive potential if I can get it working properly haha! And thank you so much, we are similarly stoked haha!
Will and the Bee's! still love those old shots you took of the Bee's on the flowers. and for this close-up machine thingy, how strange and interesting lol sort of like a metal detector on the end of a camera, but i think once you figure out how it works best for you it will be pretty cool. can't wait for the following videos, its good to have you back
