I had customer that had this problem on his water heater. I foul that the gap on air to gas mixing gap was just a tad too small. I opened it up just a hair larger, solved the problem.
I have a Dometic water heater (WH-6GEA) that will not run on propane without the door opened. I have searched the Internet and found others with this model and this same problem. The water heater will light, sound like a jet engine, and go out after about 30 seconds. If you open the door, it starts, runs very quietly with a blue flame and cycles correctly. I have checked everything else with this heater (frayed or corroded wires, wires being interfered with, blocked vent) and everything is fine. My plan is to make a temporary door exactly like the original and test adding holes until I get the water heater to fire as it should with the temporary door closed. I will then add the same new openings in the original Dometic door, screen it and call it done.
I haven't read all the comments yet but the altitude that you're camping at can also affect the way your water heater works. The slide air adjustment by the gas valve might need to be opened more to allow more air when the door is closed.
Todd; I have the same Atwood water heater, when i bought the camper in installed a BUG SCREEN on the water heater ( new style square ). I found the same thing, it would NOT heat with the door closed, took out the screen and wala it worked!!! My RV tech and I decided that the screen was starving the heater of air.
Actually, the numbers added (to my name anyway) was added by youtube. I guess to make the name different. I did not add those numbers, which might be the case of those you're calling out. You forgot to tell us there should be a 1/2 inch air gap in the propane tube air slots which can be adjusted. I learned that from a mobile tech.
I loved my time there. And as a vet myself, I greatly appreciate that they work with vets to be able to attend the courses.
Propane and propane accessories
I soooo appreciate the level of detail and logical progression of your explanations.

Thanks for sharing
I'm at 5000' altitude and I need to open the access panel to keep the flame lit. Thanks for the tips !
Same situation in Rocket Mountain National Park.
I’ve had a fuseable link work and then stop just from a loose connection
Great questions. Great responses
So what about in my monaco signature where the propane is mounted on its side?
Thanks for the info.
FYI, I’m totally ok not having you go over those user names. 🤣
It looks like that thermal fuse was turned the wrong way and is ineffective anyway! It should be over the burner correct?
Hi Todd, where can I buy the Tank Ties straps you show in the video? Thanks!
I’m am booking up 100lb tanks. What is the best way? I currently use 30lb tanks
Tod, Google is doing the number thing by itself.

👍👍👍👍👍
My guess is mud daubers restricting the air flow - possibly in the burner tube. I had that problem with my furnace.
Then how come every propane storage rack stores the canisters horizontal or on their side?
Wrong I live in Washington County and there are plenty of homeless people still out there. You can drive anywhere to see them in this county.
8343 = Aug 3, 1943? 🤷♂️😂
