@@capturingthemachine there is a small snip it of it on RUclips from an old vcr recording. The mods were done in 1982 last race 1986 around Australia rally, sadly I sold it to help by my farm but one day I might get a phone call to go to Brisbane and have a ride in it at a rotary or rally revival event , that would nice
Cool idea, and I was wondering where that car went after it was at GlenShelly. I got my M3 from Alex too,but mine is a weekend/track car. I'm really surprised that they didn't do the Rod Bearings before selling it. The S54 is Gods Motor. Does anyone remember the VW Rallye Golf or Golf Country those things were Awesome too.
They did do the rod bearings just before selling it - I'm guessing because they did an oil sample and found that they were wearing thin - but they unfortunately did NOT resolve the issue of how the S54 pump was grinding into the oil pan causing metal shavings to circulate through the engine, so the bearings failed just a few thousand miles later. An unfortunate $10k mistake. I also bought an M3 coupe from them later in 2019 that looked great on paper and in person but has since required a lot of big repairs in just a few thousand miles. I don't think they were malicious or negligent, I just had some really bad luck.
With all due respect to Subaru - as I DD a '97 Tommy kaira M20b wagon - a WRX or STi is not an appropriate vehicle to take on extended offroad trips of any kind - especially if a passenger is anticipated. They are wonderful rally/sports cars, and tremendously and endlessly capable, but they are not quiet. In fact, even after adding a lot of sound dampening during the restoration and upgrade project, the car remains stubbornly loud. The triple-seamed chassis transmits every single bump, ripple, and stone straight through to the driver's extremely deep bucket seat. The suspension squeaks and groans, the tyre noise is loud. The wind noise isn't great. And the combination results in a car which leaves you aurally exhausted after just 5 hours on tar sealed roads. Thrashing a WRX/STi/M20b on gravel roads is a non-stop joy, but it's extremely loud, and you would want ear plugs if you intended to drive hard for longer than 15 minutes or so. The amount of gravel hitting the underside of the car, and the wheel arches is astonishing, especially when AWD drifting: the racket produced means you can't hold a conversation in the car! So, using a BMW and WRXizing it is a pretty cool idea. It'll be a shit-ton quieter, much more luxurious and probably won't burn any more fuel. When the M20b boost kicks hard, the gas bill is horrendous @ $2.70/litre!
Thanks for sharing your perspective! You explain the differences perfectly. One of my favorite things about the M3baru is how it feels like a regular BMW E46 when driving normally, so it's pretty comfortable on long drives.
I might be biased, but I think this is the best M3baru video of all time.

that sounds cool as hell! Thanks for sharing!
@@capturingthemachine there is a small snip it of it on RUclips from an old vcr recording. I had an rx2 coupe that was an early gr G 13b bridge port , ford 9inch Detroit locker disc rear end , 4 link fully adjustable and upper arms came up inside the car = lots of travel, back seat all 205ltr of fuel tank, it had modified steering length arms for faster response, and coil overs .
Climb Dance. Nice.
