Most Irish tin whistle players do it. Tin whistle is taught in schools in Ireland, primarily to learn Irish Music.

@@ajorngjdonaydbr Ye. Just taught about something. I used go with my Dad to the Jazz Freaks they were Duffy Circus musiciams. They were a blast. The trumpet player used to play with two tin whistles up his nose. They were very funny.

No it isn't. It's influenced by Irish Folk music but isn't a classic Irish song. That's up there with people claiming they remember singing the theme to Dad's Army in the air raid shelters. It was written for the show in 1968.

as a republican I could at least understand people wearing one to commemorate WW1 as Canadians wear it also and it wasn’t just the brits fighting in WW1 but a lot of people don’t realise it’s been hijacked by the British legion to help war criminals injured who fought in Ireland, falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan, it’s also been hijacked by the UVF, UDA, RUC, UDR and probably others, one of the biggest and many reasons il never wear one as up never wear something in respect of the people who oppressed and killed my neighbours and family during the troubles.
I would just like to mention that many patriotic Irish fought with the English in both world wars for personal feelings that this was the right thing to do, as did a couple of my Irish ancestors. The fact that they were harassed for fighting fascism and the earlier Germanic threat to Europe is in no way a thing to be ashamed of, although the situation in WW1 allowed us to finally snatch our country back from the English was managed without the Irishmen who did fight in the trenches, merely shows how hard the English boot was on the Irish throat before the Black and Tans had more imperially important things to do! The treatment of the men who fought the Nazi's when they returned home is one of the main reasons that half of my family is in Galway and the other half are scattered across England to this day! I'm just saying that Republican Pride and spirit is not in anyway better or worse than those who chose to put an end to the aggressor in either world war, my family is in shatters to this day due to the treatment and internecine infighting and tit-for-tat bullshit! This is more than a century ago, and a century from now this will have no meaning! If Dara wants to commemorate the fallen, he probably has his reasons! This kind of black or white approach to things is only going to cause more suffering! (And you can piss off, I ended up having to grow up in fucking England, in the 70's! All Irish are brothers and sisters, no one should be punished for following their moral compass, unless it points Right instead of a Cardinal direction!)

@@r1cha4d most joined as they were promised if they helped during the war then Westminster would implement home rule in Ireland, of course this never happened, would seem that for every Irish life sent meant that an English life could be spared and considering how they treated the Irish it’s hard to blame anyone for coming to that assumption.

I'm not impressed. I mean, if you're transferring the whistle from your mouth to your nose, that means you have your mouth free and could also sing. That would impress me ^^
If you opened your mouth the tin whistle wouldn’t play since that air would just escape through your mouth.

Because over 5 million people have been killed by Covid-19 (that we know of) and we are approaching a winter where the world has opened up and our immunity is lower after all of us keeping to ourselves last year, so in some aspects we're a bit more at risk now.

It’s a poppy flower, a commemoration to all British soldiers who have died serving throughout history
remembrance day, remembering the end of WWI, its called a poppy and a lot of people wear it in the weeks leading up to 11/11 when the armistice took place, its been a thing for decades, almost everyone who goes in the jonathan ross or graham norton show during this time wears one, british or not
