Don't worry about long videos, ARMY have watched videos much longer than this one before. BTS has actually spoken at the UN 3 times total. The 3rd time they spoke at the UN in 2021 they also performed their song Permission To Dance. Yes RM is the group leader. I think a lot of times when people think of leader they think it means he's the main person in the group when really leader is just like the equivalent of being team captain of a sports team. J-Hope's stage presence is no joke, you should watch his performance headlining Lollapalooza last year.

I just found your videos today and just love you both already :) So enjoying all the reactions! I'm a baby ARMY as well - became obsessed last summer just before my daughter left for college. Last thing we bonded over before she moved out so BTS is super special to us. Mom & daughter ARMY's for the win! 💜💜

Every Kpop group has a designated leader, but there's no such thing as a "front man" in Kpop like there was with Western groups in the recent past. CEO/producer Bang Shihyuk must have seen those innate leadership qualities and intelligence in RM from the start. As a poet first and a rapper second, RM was the main lyricist and even concept driver for their albums, so that was one pillar. A second pillar was his English fluency, which helped in later years when they went fully global. And the third pillar is his dignified, commanding but humble presence, articulateness and thoughtfulness. He's just a born leader - a natural to speak at the UN and the White House! No wonder Army calls him The President. ☺

Fun fact: BTS was actually designed around RM. Bang PD met him and signed him to the company right after seeing him rap for the first time. He didn't know exactly what to do with him and decided to make BTS to make RM famous.

The songs Jin, Jimin, V, etc are singing that look like movies are k-dramas, which V also acted in Hwarang. Love k-dramas! Love BTS! THIS video really explains all they've been thru. They are amazing, multi-talented and humble.

You should hear RM speaking with a British accent. So cute! Also, when he does Becky G's Spanish part in JHope's 'Chicken Noodle Soup' at one of their online concerts, many Spanish speakers say that his accent is on point.
He's really impressive on his knowledge of languages and the use of them in his lyrics.

So happy you reacted to this guide. About the leadership in BTS...it is standard for kpop idol groups to have a leader. Namjoon is the leader of BTS. Then they usually have sub groups that they refer to as line. For example all the rappers is called the rap line, Consisting of Namjoon, Suga and jhope. Then there is the vocal line which consist of jungkook, who is the main vocalist, Jin, v and Jimin. Then there’s the dance line consist of jhope, jk , jimin and V. These are official designations in idol groups that means different responsibilities for each members.

We love long ones 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜. Whoever said he is not the leader is wrong. In K-pop every group has an assigned person as the leader. As a matter of fact every person has an assigned position in the group.
Regarding Jin, he was approached twice on the street by 2 labels. The first time was my SM (one of the big 3 labels in Korea). He blew them off as he thought it was a scam and he was 15 years old at that time. He then was approached by a Big Hit getting off a bus and was asked to audition when he was in college studying drama. He was approached 2x by music labels because of his looks. He had no interest in music or dancing so he had no experience in them. He must have had natural talent that he did not recognize. Through training and hard work he is what he is today. I admire him so much! The same goes for Jimin and his voice. He was a dancer and he received training as a singer during his trainee period. As we all hear his voice he has a natural gift.

So as a 56 yr old West Indian 'Army Mom' who discovered them in 2016. And they literally - saved my life but that's another story for another day. I've watched literally 'every vid/interview' etc especially on Their S.Korean platforms in the past 7 yrs.
I'm about to spill some tea. Suga? Can speak English as much if not 'better than RM'. There was sort of....a competition between both during Interviews back then - which have since been wiped/deleted. Although RM was their leader. The narrative that only 'he' spoke English is false. Suga's English was better. Also notice that they never showed Suga;s 'IQ' could've been above RM's but once again. BIG HIT spun their narrative. Rm. Leader etc
Suga back then used to sleep literally 3/4 hrs. While composing/producing - a song - per day. As in 365 songs. His members were in AWE\shock of his dedication to his art.
The narrative in this vid of him being introverted? True. What they didn't mention was how EXHAUSTED he was. He and Jimin worked beyond into early hrs in the morn....while their brothers were asleep.
So...there's a 'famous question once posed yrs ago'.........."If You Had The Chance...to spend 24 hrs with ONE MEMBER OF BTS. Who would you choose?". Now....JK is my fave/bias as he's close in age with my son and their characters are similar. Watched him grow/ mature etc. However - my answer was SUGA. As the most introverted? - I believe - most intelligent/closed off one of the group? I'd LOVE to spend 24 hrs with him. although RM came in a close 2nd 🤣🤣EDIT: Suga won said survey - I rest my case Borahea 💜💜

I've wanted to add that they now have won over 905 physical awards being the most awarded group and 4th artist overall, so many things happened since may 2022 so basically there should be literally an update version every few months because BTS is just such a unique team, they break so many new records and also break records they themselves set again AND AGAIN

Loving your reactions, and I'm so glad you are watching Taylor's Guide to find out more about these seven incredible young men. And I look forward to part 2.🤗
I would also recommend watching The Most Beautiful Life Goes On: A Story Of BTS (2022 Update), by Rice Squad. It looks at their formation from a slightly different angle; then focus' more on their musical journey, and achievements. It's informative and fun, and compliments Taylor's Guide wonderfully.💜🤔 And requires minimal reading🤭
As others have said the group leader is more like the position of team captain; they even refer to them selves as a team - or brothers. One thing to note, in most KPop groups the leader is the oldest member, but BTS is different here too. Not only is Namjoon (RM) not the oldest, he is rather right in the middle, age wise. The middle child, if you will. And he has a lot of patience - he has to, dealing with the others 💜🤭
Also, Yoongi (Suga) is an introvert. But, like most introverts, once he gets comfortable with people, he can get just as crazy as the rest (for brief periods). And the thing with Yoongi is, far from being emotionless, he feels things, and thinks about things, deeply. Maybe too deeply. But the fact that he wants to support, help, and inspire, others going through their own struggles says so much about him.💜😻.
Also, never worry about a video being too long. Just today I enjoyed a 3 hour Livestream by another "BTS Explorer".

    PART 2

  • @belinda61

    So, a li'l K-pop 101:
Traditionally, there are "roles" for each of the members in a K-pop group: Leader, vocalist, rapper, dancer, and visual (yes, visual; it's a thing). Within each of these designations, there are sub-roles, "main" and "lead." Consider the "main" as the captain, and the "lead" as the vice-captain within each role designation (e.g., main dancer, lead vocalist, etc.).
FYI, beginning with the 4th generation of K-pop (which started in 2019, I believe), a lot of groups have largely done away with these designations, with a group's members all fulfilling more than one role (e.g., vocalist and dancer, vocalist and rapper, etc.). But each group still has a leader, as it's a necessary practicality. The leader is responsible for keeping the team focused and disciplined, and acts as a go-between for the group and the label, as well as mediating any disputes within the group itself. They also often are the "face" of the group, especially at awards shows and during interviews and/or promotions.
And it's important to note that the leader receives no additional benefits for taking on this role, even though they have so many more responsibilities.
So, when BTS says that RM is the best leader, you should know how powerful that statement is. It's an incredible amount of responsibility and pressure to be the leader of BTS, especially over the last 4 years or so, as their worldwide exposure and popularity has just exploded. ARMY is so, so lucky to have RM, who is such a thoughtful and strong person! Ah, I just love him!

  • @c-dragon4286

I think Americans often equate "Leader " to lead singer or frontman, and we just aren't used to the KPop system where they have a designated person who is the leader and is the go-between between the company and the group. I was confused about this too when I first started listening to BTS. But, yes, Namjoon (RM) is the official leader of BTS.

With the exception of BlackPink, almost EVERY major Kpop group has a leader. Whoever wrote that article your mom wrote should be fired. Twice has Jihyo, Stray Kids has Bang Chan, BTS has RM, Itzy has Yeji, etc.
