Transferencia Sonora

Cuban visual arts collective Los Transferencistas held a musical performance called Transferencia Sonora at the closure of their exhibition Retratos de Otrxs Que No Somos Nosotrxs (Portraits of Others Who Are Not Ourselves).
I was among the musicians invited to this improvisational, collaborative piece which took place at a local art gallery. Surrounded by the paintings produced by the collective, the thirty-minute sets were based on improvisation and built around the transference of musical forms from one musician to the next.
I performed using algorithmic composition in the Haskell programming language alongside Argentinian singers Julya and Momo and Mexican guitarist Sebas Cartas. At times chaotic and then delicate, the performance taught me that music is a barrier-breaking language that forms deep connections between different people and that making room for the unexpected and unplanned can be the solid base of a transcendent musical performance.
