My father has been asking me why with events over 400 metres the athletes are allowed to leave their lanes and switch to the inner lane where so many times they get trapped amongst each other/boxed in/sometimes pushed. Doesn't make much sense to him and not to me either.
The girl who fell down was Heather Dornidan of the University of Minnesota. It was the Big Ten indoor championship. She took second. There are split final heats indoors and the winner of the other heat had a faster time.
I would like to also add that running contests can be quite strange. Below is proof of my PR for a 5KM run (226 pounds+): Christopher Nowak Kitchener 23:00 4 SMW+200 89 4:3622:58 The"4" stands for 4th place and yet, I have run high 28 minute 5KM times and earned medals (one was actually 1st.) I guess that one's success can be determined by who decides to show up for the races.
hehe... when i was a kid.. even I used to ask the same question. Just think about it.. after the 400m is done in their lane.. the person on the outer circumference is running more than the person on the inside.. hope the lane change makes sense to you now ;)
I would like to add that even though I am 30 pounds lighter today (and healthier), I cannot get anywhere near that mid to high 45 minute 10KM time because: 1) I am almost 20 years older (54 rather than 35). 2) My knees are much weaker. With regards to a male in the lower class heavyweight division (211 pounds +), a guy by the name of DARCY MINTZ from my hometown of Kitchener Waterloo, Ontario ran a 39:17 10KM time at about 215 pounds!!
Pre was a ballsy runner! But those over-quick surges he did on the last lap are what sapped him down the stretch. Not good strategy. But when you're a balls-to-the-wall runner, strategy isn't your main thing.
Here is my suggestion for Best Running Moments #5 (if possible). HEAVYWEIGHT MALES (211-300 pounds). Has anyone heard of "THE BIG MAN RUN"? The only runner I know of who ran more impressively than my 45:53 (gun)/45:40 (estimated chip) 10Km time at 244 pounds is: RON CAVAGE (a low 42 minute run at 250 pounds)!!
If 211 is your minimum to count in that class I ran 44:27 for 10k at 215lb back when I was 31. I also ran a 5:31 mile and 1:11 for 10 miles at that weight. I got tired of the bulk. 44 now cut down to 195 and am running 47 for 10k....old trumps being light.
Not a drug user. He got his blood replaced/circulated often. Which wasn't illegal back then. So you can't hold that against him seeing as it was legal to do at the time. Still a remarkable talent either way though.
Honestly, why is the Pre Olympics race considered that great of a race. Fast last mile? Nothing against Pre at all, just not sure why this race gets the play it does. Toss in Dave Wottle's 800 or Shorter's marathon in that same Olympics for races that are much more deserving (and much more exciting in Wottle's case).
+Jeffrey Driscoll pre's race is considered one of the greatest race's of all time due to pre getting beat that was the first time pre had lost a race since his freshmen year of highschool. it is also considered to be one of the greatest because of pre's effort in the final stretch pre couldn't of done more then he did. does this answer your question
When you get to the end of a longer race it takes more than speed to win, it takes heart.
7 years later man, how’d your life change
Epic music for epic running
The girl who fell then won the race is awesome. Manzano getting silver in the Olympic 1500 should be added to this.
Brings tears to my eyes! Thanks for sharing.
Dramatic Music - Love it
Great job! Tell me the the race and the name of the woman that fell, and then managed to come back and win it all?

I couldn't keep my eyes off pre on the last one. It's probably one of the saddest running moments of all time

What races should i put there? If possible with a link.
This is exactly what I wanted to say!
Spectacular video for the ages!! All hail the Almighty GOD (Jesus Christ) that blesses "men" with powerful legs to RUN!
