Roar is definitely a common Norwegian name, but it's spoken very differently than the English word (the Norwegian way to say Roar is "Roo-ar" - so with two syllables rather than one) The Norwegian name Odd, however is pronounced more similar to the English word (slight different vowel sound). I like to make the joke if someone named Odd was married to someone named Randi (female Norwegian name - not pronounced quite like the English Randy, but if a Norwegian was to speak English they might use the English pronounciation) and they had to introduce themselves to someone in English, lol. "Hi, I'm Odd, she's Randi" :P Names can be a funny thing internationally. You will always find normal names in one language that ends up having some kind of weird meaning in another language. Fart = Speed, and Humper = Humps. Fun fact, Speed Bumps is the American English version of the British English Speed Humps, and "er" in Norwegian is often used to signify "Plural," just like the "s" in English is often used for the same thing. 14:44 In English you would probably pronounce it by combining the words "Row" and "Are" and removing the "w." I think that's the best combination that you could get for an accurate English pronunciation, as I don't think English has words that have speakers pronounce the letters the same way you would in Norwegian.
Norwegians are just happy to know that people know about us even tho we are mentioned quite a lot for our size, but it's almost like we expect to be known as much as other countries as france and germany 😅😅
Norwegians consider Norway pretty much ''secluded'' when it comes to the world stage. If we were talking in terms of ''Lord of the Rings'' I guess Norway would be ''The Shire'', a place that people out in the bigger world might have heard this or that about, but they don't really know much about it or where it's even located.

You could say they pranked Google Maps. 😂
The road is real. Sognefjellet - mountain pass. I am pretty shure you find videos of it when they actually make the road. It is insane even from a norwegians point of view. That is something you should make a vlog about. For sure.
The name Roar is pretty rare these days. There are 6581 men named Roar as of January 2022, and no one given that name since 2016. It had its peak in 1954 and 1955 with around 0.7% of newborns named Roar.
And I'm one of those 6581. Though it is simply a Norse variant of Roger. Old Norse spelling would be either Hróðgeirr or Hróðarr. Iceland does not allow the "modern" form of the name, and it's mostly been used in Denmark in addition to Norway. Somewhat dissapointed the one who mentioned other somewhat common first names failed to showcase combinanations actualy in use, such as Bent Christian. Then again, I know someone named Odd Willy. Then again - such combinations pale in comparison to all those used by the Brits for.. well.. genetalia. Delving deep into arkivverkets digitalarkiv it's possible to find quite a few very strange and/or rude names given - especially between 1800-1900. Can't remember any examples, though.
Norway is a mix between Sweden and Denmark no? I think that was the point with the: "Norway: exists Sweden and Denmark: Wait, that's illegal." meme. At least that is how I understood it.

Not big enough to be Lynx… and that one also got a long tail. Lynx and bobcat got really short tail.. facial features and the overly pointy ears, of that cat makes me think Maine Coon cat… not Norvegian forest cat.
@@BobTarzan Maybe, the tail seemed really short compared to the body to me. Isn't the main coon partially descendant of the Norwegian forest cat? Or am I remembering that wrong?
@@avienated I actually thought that the tail in the picture was short compared to most cats I've seen (in relation to the body). But this cat has a totally different fur then a lynx now that I've looked at a picture of one.

That one Norwegian prison is great. Based on that one i wouldn't be surprised if they were all alot better than many prisons in north america, but in the video of that one insanely nice prison they specify time and again that it is one of the only of it's kind, even in norway
:D I have never realised that "fartshumper"-thing, it's actually written in one word.
Pinguins only exists south of the equator except in ZOOs.
And that friend essentially thinks that we're basically cold like the south pole.
13:50 reminds me of some broken English a guy said:
"It's not the fart that kills you it's the smell"
(fart is Norwegian for Speed, smell is Norwegian for explosion/bang)
"Roar" is an example of onomatopoeia.
(See how succinct that was?)
LOL, not in Norwegian. It's the equivalent of Roger in English. Tell me you're unsuccessfully trying to look intelligent without telling me you're unsuccessfully trying to look intelligent.
11:37 It's a joke about how Sweden and Denmark for centuries took turns in occupying Norway.
This video was hilarious, and my side split from laughter😂🤣
The prison you always see on the internet is Halden jail. Its more modern than all the other jails in Norway. Some jails are old and outdated.
about that penguin. there is actually a norwegian produced anti ship missile named penguin, designated AGM-119. It is/was used by the us navy sea hawks helicopters.
That hottub is on their porch, not in a hole in the ground 😄they just had to dig it out from beneath last weeks snowfall i guess
No worries, i didnt know about the penguin either and i am from Norway 😅🙈
the cat one is true, it's like a Main Coon just slightly bigger.
The guy skiing away from the battle field is most likely true. People used to ski for please, transport, war. Also Roar is pronounced Roo-ar.
There are Norwegian Forest cats, bigger than "ordinary" cats, but the one here, is most likely a HUGE american cat Maine Coon.
The forest cat is about 2/3 of the size of a MC. What's special w the NFC, is it can climb head down a tree, and their ability to survive the harsh climate.
Sir Nils Olav 😂😂 forgot about him... my oldest brother's name as well, and also senior to Sir Penguin.
Polar Bears are just to be found on SpitsBergen (78 degrees North), NOT on Norwegian Main Land.
Yeah I also thought it looked like a Maine Coon. I've seen Both breeds, bot MC are huge
Norway forest cat called gaupe
I had a black Norwegian forest cat. The bastard was 22 pounds. So yeah they are big, but not as big as the picture. I believe that cat is a Lynx.
Could be a Maine Coon.
Possibly my favorite place name in Norway:
Hell - Gods Expedition
Also search for "Statens vegvesen - Brøyting av Trollstigen 25. april 2016" to se how roads are opend up after some winter snow
Opening of trollstigen road:

Or this one, Sognefjellveien:

We can also be called 'odd' and also 'bård' which is pronunced 'board'
😏 6 flags, not 5. 🙂
Picture 5 "What it is really like." is a famous picture from Google Maps (taken from Norway). The guys in the picture had been told that Google was coming to photograph the local area. They waited until the camera had been set up to take the birdseye picture, and entered it dressed like this. You could say they pranked Google Maps. 😂
The road is real. Sognefjellet - mountain pass. I am pretty shure you find videos of it when they actually make the road. It is insane even from a norwegians point of view. That is something you should make a vlog about. For sure.
vikings also did use skies :D so 17:47 is true :) sort of XD we didnt bring them with us, due to we didnt raid at winter time, most of the time
That cat is legit. I reminds me of a lynx
“Fart” means speed in Norwegian, “hump” means bump=speed bump
The cat is supposed to be an eurasian lynx(in norway called Gaupe)
My dad is named Roar😂
Norwegian Forest Cats are real, but that cat is a Maine Coon...
I think that was the point with the:
"Norway: exists
Sweden and Denmark: Wait, that's illegal."
meme. At least that is how I understood it.

Norwegian forest cat is a thing, but that's a Lynx I believe?
And I guess the lynx is technically kind of a cat, and it *does* live in the forest...
Not big enough to be Lynx… and that one also got a long tail. Lynx and bobcat got really short tail..
facial features and the overly pointy ears, of that cat makes me think Maine Coon cat… not Norvegian forest cat.
@@BobTarzan Good call on the tail, I thought it was a lynx too, but the tail looks too big and bushy.
@@Luredreier Not sure if anyone knows the origins of Maine Coon, its different theories including descendant of Norvegian Forest cat brought by the Vikings. They related somehow. But I'm not saying it is a Maine Coon cat. To me it just looks like one, especially the face. Norvegian Forest cat got more kittylike face... but this looked more like a Lynx in the face.. Sharp lines and alomst masculine like a male Lion.
The one with the scooba divers.. just 2 boys, that ran after a Google-car and that's the image that was saved.. its somewere on google maps
Scuba divers ran after Google streetview car 😂
The only bear we have in Norway has Brown Bears in the woods. No polar bears.
We have polar bears in Norway
They are just on Svalbard
Yes there is wild animals in norway, but unless you plan on going off the beaten path in the middle of nowhere alone for a swim, i doubt you need to worry about it. Most populated places and normal frequently bathing areas are safe.
Yes, they are named Roar 😄
The cat is a Maine Coon 😊
the gigant cat is called a Gaupe
12:58 they're a real breed! You can have them as pets. They're cats but bigger and fluffier. See also the similarly sized American breed called the Maine Coon.
It makes perfect sense to me that Norway has a penguin who s a Brigadier. We are after all one of the powers of Antarctica, which is ruled by penguins. We need someone to control those people. Have you seen them? It's like Wall Street. They must be kept under control. What does not make sense, is that he is a sir. I will never call anyone sir in Norway.
In Swedish speed bump is called "Fart-Hinder"
90% of your subs are likely Norwegians, we love hearing about us
Prob all millennials YouTubing Norway
this was a hillarious ep ngl
We know englsih very well, but we don't think about what means something in english like fartshumper, and yes that is how to say speedbumps xD
