My having discovered this, and the unexpected, gently-interpreted delivery by Lowe has been a double pleasure.
' A few little tears, but we brushed them away', not being I'm sure one of the lines written by the Heath's makes me wonder who contributed it; if I'm not wrong, of course; it's not in the Dorothy Carless version, or Chick Henderson's, but I've not seen the original sheet music.
I'm so pleased it was sung straight, and not comically.
John le Mesurier's ' Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square ', though, was so magnificently intimately humorous, with Ian Lavender's asides, that it achieved the effect of an overheard conversation; but that was a reminiscence, not an imagined, sung-delivery directly to a lover, so wasn't incongruous.
    Thanks very much.
