Have an exam tomorrow, and I've been searching for the explanation of the regioselectivity of electron withdrawing groups on the dienophile, and why they would somehow end up on different carbons than what seemed to be intuitive. According to my theory, ethylene reacts sluggishly meaning the dienophile prefers to attach itself to an electron-withdrawing group which basically lowers the energy of the alkene double-bond electrons so they can react with the dienes. Is that the case?

Do you have a video explaining how to determine stereochemistry when the groups on the diene or dienophile are asymmetric? For example, how would you determine wedge/dash for the example you did at 6:45?

Hi Abigail! I just re-filmed this lesson using a whiteboard. I actually combined all the Diels-Alder lessons from this old playlist into a single longer video on Diels-Alder. Beginning at 19:06 I cover regioselectivity including with symmetric dienes/dienophiles and also show the stereochemistry of the products.
