Gotta listen to some Tides of Man as well when Tilian sang for them. Would love a reaction to A Faint Illusion by them. Also Royal Coda is a great band that Will Swan, the guitarist for DGD, is also in simultaneously.
@@rickysotelo1446 Kurt Travis is actually the lead vocalist for Royal Coda. Might as well listen to the band Slaves because Jonny Craig is currently the vocalist for them and he sounds amazing on the Beautiful Death album.
The lines between metalcore and post-hardcore are extremely blurry. Post-hardcore used to be related to a more moody punk sound, now its more of a mix between emo and metalcore. The biggest difference is the mood honestly, metalcore is way more aggressive and heavy, like Crystal Lake and As I Lay Dying, while Post-hardcore tends to be more melodic and personal. Dance Gavin Dance I don't think fully fits either. They use funk, pop, technical and progressive metals, hip hop, all in a huge cluster fuck of a sound thats entirely their own. We call it Swancore, named after the lead guitarist.
Ismael Sanche Dillinger Escape Plan is considered MathCore, there is no way in hell that DGD(my favorite) fits in MathCore dude. If so and I’m wrong, I’m curious as to how? Lol
@@That_ZIO Eh, both are kinda right kinda wrong. I think DGD uses way too many genres to be shoved into one, that being said the heavier songs do have mathy tendencies in the guitar work.
You should watch Will Swan do his play through of the song, “ Chucky Vs the Giant Tortoise” he does a lot more in one song on his guitar than you think he does. Dude is insane

DGD has made their own version of metalcore and post-hardcore to form what they call "swancore". The guitarist has a record label, Blue Swan Records, where they have signed bands with similar sound (ie Royal Coda, Wolf & Bear, Eidola)
From memory, the specificity of it being a cult rather than a mainstream religion is due to the fact that Tillian's father was a member of the Church of Scientology. That's what the song is about/targeting.
DGD is my new religion and man am I spreading the word or what! Discovered them about 2 weeks ago and have barely listened to anything but them since. Personal favorites other than those you've already reacted to: Son of a Robot, Blood Wolf, Chucky vs. The Giant Tortoise, Frozen One, Death Of A Strawberry and many many many more.
man if you love the power of the cleans you need to check out the likes of Issues, Slaves, Saosin, Emarosa, Isles & Glaciers, Alazka, Chunk! No Captain Chunk!.
They actually have a long running music video story going on. The robot with human hair series culminating with Death of the robot with human hair. As well as Stroke God Millionaire and more. It’s just amazing really!
tilian is a countertenor which allows him to hit these highs so cleanly. other vocalists in the post hardcore genre are usually just tenors so they can't go quite as high, or if they do, they most likely use some fry to reach these notes
DGD is definitely in their own category when it comes to which music genre they fit in, I’d say they’re a “progressive post hardcore” these guys are my absolute favorite band.
Definitely should react to death of the robot with human hair, stroke god millionaire, young robot, and son of robot all by DGD and honestly some of my personal favorite songs
Lyrics Lie just dropped and Strawberry's Wake dropped a couple weeks ago, two out of three singles off of their upcoming album - the other being Prisoner, of course
I always think I know what DGD song is my favorite then someone asks me about them and I have a panic attack deciding between so many songs. There really are so many amazing songs to introduce someone to them with.
If you like the lead guitarist, you should know that he also raps in certain songs. Try out Spooks, Chocolate Jackalope, or Into The Sunset. You'll love them!
Mothership was one of my favorite albums so far from these guys from when I got into them. My buddy mike and grant told me to listen to them. I fell in love and have been a fan ever since. They make some great music man. As far as a song to listen to from them..... I would suggest Betrayed by the game or Chucky vs The giant tortoise.
Because Metalcore is all around every corner hard when it comes to delivering and shredding and tone. Basically DGD have become absolute to be labeled in any sub-genre in Rock that they have become their own sub-genre.
they are a subgenre of post hardcore, called swancore, bands that fall under this category are usually signed to Blue Swan Records (the label was founded by Will Swan, guitarist of DGD), they also have a festival called Swanfest! thats it xD
Son of Robot is a great song, the vocals are similar to this. But if you do make sure you watch Stroke god millionaire and young robot along with it. They lay out a story. Vocalist: Jon Mess (screaming vocals) Vocalist: Tilian Pearson (melodic vocals) Guitarist: Will Swan (afro bro) Bassist: Tim Ferrick Drummer: Matt Mingus
Do you guys remember when he first reacted to dgd? He said they had to earn his respect before he learns they're name now look at him. Respect Earned haha
I usually enjoy how they spin the rock sections into groove sections but this song only gives me the good ol diamond cutters until that hotel part haha
Bro their whole catalog is amazing. A lot of great song suggestions already in the comments. One I would like to see a reaction of just bc it's so off the wall would be Rock Solid. Shits crazy lmao
I was really hoping you'd cover this song. It's a staple to any DGD playlist IMO. It really demonstrates Tilian's versatility. The smooth and charming clean vocals, the gritty screams, the incredibly high notes he's capable of hitting. This is definitely one of my favorite songs by them.
Ive been called a metal snob for this perspective but TRY and convince me otherwise: no matter what music moves you, metal can be appreciated by anyone if nothing else. The talent and skill it takes to pull off certain bars and riffs, and the depth of the lyrics. Anyone who calls it "noise" isnt really listening to the complexity of the music. Of course this depends on the song/band but I believe no matter what music you gravitate to, metal and its sub genres can be appreciated by anyone. It SHOULD be appreciated by anyone and is really underrated.

Dance Gavin Dance is amazing, their song Care is a bop lol You should check out Volumes! Their songs 'Erased' and 'Feels good' are some of my favorites to get lost to
This song if i remember right. Is based off of tilians dad being pulled into scientology. And tillians experience of seeing that churchs manipulation on his family. Also, this music video, like with almost all of their music videos, is a piece of the robot with human hair storyline.
bruhhhh in my opinion this is one of their best albums. please do Man of the Year! that one is intense and the lyrics to me are interpreted as very deep. love your reacts! be safe brotha!

Also has a lot to do with the tuning of the guitars, sound patterns and distortion as well. But aside from that, my dude up here is right. ^
The technical term is Math Rock. It means not sticking to a generally used algorithm but combining a whole bunch of methods

So many levels to that song. It's a masterpiece
