the curve in the getback swing-out seat design was what made the decision for me. the straight arm on the benchcrafted swing-away stool didn't allow enough room for the legs, not without hitting each time you move. good design for kids at school but for adults at a table you need the bend in the cast iron arm, which also extends out further, if you want (as they're adjustable on these swing-out seats, which i love. so they don't hit anything and can still tuck-away nicely. i agree with you both are good options and both are well made ..perfect for those who want the best.

You could make the circles with a router jig and use a steep bevel on the bottom to give them some shape. After that, either leave the tops flat or power carve out the dish.
but then the wood legs kept scratching the wood floor and with three teenage kids they could never agree on how far or when :) it was a nightmare with the bench, and half of the time they all just ended-up falling back on and landing on that same wood floor. the swing-out part has proven to be the fun (and safer) part for them. and I agree it does looks beautiful.
