It's been 15yrs since I've been there and it was only one time. Moved back to WA state in 2005 during 5th grade year. Maryland truly holds a spot in my heart forever
I remember going there back in the 50s. It was a great place to enjoy a beach without a long drive to Ocean City. The last time i was there had to be about 1955. This is also the place where the Polar Bear plunge takes place in January. People go in the freezing water to raise money for charities. I've never done that. In the fall they have the Bay Bridge Walk. You park on the west side and take a bus to Kent Island and walk the whole 4.3 miles back to the west side. I have done that once in the 80s and again once in the 90s. Great view from the high point of the bridge.
I was just there last week with my wife and kids. I used to go there with my parents when I was a kid as well. Now they have a fully shaded area that allows you to be both in the shade and close to the water all day ! Just make sure you get there early and to bring mosquito spray. You can set up a grill and they have hot coals pits so you can dump your hot coals. Park rangers walk around handing out trash bags which helps keep the park clean. Its a great beach
Pretty much the largest and closest beach to the DC area and has good amenities including a large boat ramp but be warned, Sandy point is normally closed down at least a couple days every year due to very bad water quality. Avoid swimming in the bay at all for a couple days after any large rain.
We didn’t go far from the shore. If you’ll look at the other beachgoers... It goes deep at almost 10 feet. I am sorry. But, that was just based on my POV/experience.

How deep does the water get for swimming
