I want to let you know how much fun i am having watching your channel. I don't have a vw and have never worked on one before but that's not stopping me from having a great time learning from you. You have a great personality and outlook and it comes threw in every video you make. Watching one of your older rail video's sure made me want to take my dirtbike back to Winchester bay and play in the sand.... Miss it allot
Thank you for the kind words and your support. It's folks like you that make it more fun for me as well. I too, miss the sand. My first time to Winchester bay we went crabbing out on the dock and got a keeper in my 2nd basket.
Thanks, I need to learn how to rebuild my transition, I helped my dad back in the 70s,80s. He was awesome, rebuilding them, I didn't pay mutch attention, I REGRET IT NOW,
That is awesome! At least you know that it can be done. It's just a lot of nuts and bolts and clearances to keep track of. Hope you have the tools you need.
I like the out take's I dont know if you have ever watched elderlyiron. Jeff does some at the end and they kinda make it like the cartoon segment at the beginning of a movie. Also this just dont apply to just vw trans axle's it apply's to most all gear box transmission's Thanks GZ
Hello EZGZ, thanks for your videos, they are great! I am looking to purchase, and get special tools for late VW type 1 transaxles (AH code). Pinion nut ( pinion holding fixture & hex piece) required to install/remove 1st race nut. Any help or information is welcome. Thx
weddleindustries.com/products/new-products/new-specialized-vw-transaxle-tools If you don't have transmission experience get a shop manual. It is a long painful learning curve without one. You can always find away around the special tools they flaunt at you. Single side cover tranny's are preferred IMHO
my wife has 1968 volkswagon dune buggy ,what manual do u recommend for beginne,r dont know anybody who fixes them jumps out reverse, and right now the trans axle has come apart i think so it does not move i live in wisconsin my wife originally is from Ohio
Your best option would be to look for a similar used transmission if you can. I spent a lot of time, money on tools and learning curve. Sometimes on Reverse you can flip the gear over but you have to take the tranny apart to get to it.
so would syncros make my car only grinds dowshifting, it has a good clutch, good adjustment good bushing, it grinds downshifting to gear Two and one, it I only grinds while the bug moves, at a complete stop it's fine
+Flat4_vdub_Garage Sounds like syncro wear from your short description. I almost never shift down to 1st when the car is moving. You might try double clutching while you look for a spare tranny. Let out the clutch each time you pass threw the neutral position. This gets all the gears going at the same speed and is easier on the synchro. Also change your tranny oil. Good Luck and thanks for watching
Mr GZ. Ive been building vw trans for a couple years now. Trying to keep 4 vw cars on the drag strip. I'm wanting to buy some books on the vw trans. Are there any that you would recommend?
I feel your pain my friend. Finding Race tranny info is like asking a winner what his camshaft grind is. LOL You might try the Gene Berg Blue books. I got some good info on set up and building from those. Finding good quality parts is the other problem. There are only a few suppliers and they want a premium $$$$$ We are expecting snow and I thought I might dig into a close ratio tranny that somebody broke. I want to see how it was put together. Might make a good vid.
One of the cars I bought years ago had it under the seat. I have never seen another like it. Most of the bentley factory manuals have information but it seems like nobody covers every little thing. There is no substitute for just getting your hands dirty and fiddling with everything.
8:12 The angles will always be the same direction whether you put them on the right way or backwards. Flipping a gear 180 degrees doesn't change the angle of the teeth. ;) Rotating '/ / /' 180 degrees gives you '/ / /' and not '\ \ \'
I've never been south of the equator so I guess I'll just have to take your word for it. ;) My 2021 started with a funeral, so let's hope that the worst part of the year is already behind me... ;) Hope the start of your year was better. Happy new year to you to anyway! btw. Have you ever refurbished an unsunchronized gear box of a split window bug? Do you have any specific tips? (or pitfalls to avoid)
I hear what you're saying but I also noticed you've been having a lot of trouble with transmissions you talk about it in some other videos so that's why we have professional transmission builders they'll build it for you once you won't have to worry about it just a thought

That's only true on the North side of the equator. If your on the South side down under everything turns the other way. LOL Happy New Year anyway.

Pressionaly built trannys most times cost more than what you paid for the car.
Wow and this is just basics know wonder I don't touch em! Lol
Your inspiring me to get off my butt
Now would be the perfect time. Looking forward to some driving vids from you.
