  • If you've got a question for Fr. Josh, comment below with #AskFrJosh or share a Glory Story of how God has worked in your life with #GloryStory. Your question or story may be featured in the next video!
Today, Fr. Josh answers a comment from Aurelie Gerwing; "Would it be possible to get a video on addiction to pornography and how to help people who are dealing with this?"
Ask Fr. Josh is the question and answer show to help you navigate life when our Catholic Faith doesn’t give an easy “fill-in-the-blank” answer. In each video, Father addresses one question from three different perspectives: your relationship with God, your relationship with the Church, and your relationship with others.

I'm not a priest but a mental health therapist. Focus on Occasions to Sin, such as internet use, TV, etc. Also, focus on ending satanic imitations, such as lying (Satan is father of lies), creating conflict, resentment in family and work to identify your true self - since Satan wishes to shape you in the way he shaped Adam. Most importantly, consecrate (and reconsecrate) the body to Mary, asking her to commend you to her son and the Holy Spirit.

Thank you for making this video, when so many struggle with pornography in this day in age, we need to pray for them, or if need be, to pray for ourselves. My advice for dealing with addiction with prayer is first to learn how to focus. Focus is the most important part of starting your journey in prayer. Focusing is the prerequisite of meditation(which is a deeper form of focus). As for what to focus on, you can focus on the words you say, or a mental image of Christ, or biblical stories(and/or how they relate to you).

I have questions that I want answered
If Jesus was God incarnate, why did he not incarnate without entering the womb of Mary, may God be pleased with her? Why did he not descend directly from heaven to affect the hearts of his servants? Perhaps you say that he has divine and human qualities, and he entered into stoning them in order to give him or gain his humanity from them, so is he not able to acquire these qualities without them, when he is capable of everything? It is also known that divinity is the origin, but humanity is a creature, so was God imperfect to be complete with a part of his creation? If someone asks you and says to you: How does Almighty God enter the womb of Lady Mary and be born after that, breastfeed, crawl, play, urinate, and defecate? You say to him: Isn't God capable of that? Is this not befitting his greatness and majesty if it is usury?
You say that Christ came to redeem us from Adam's sin, so what is our fault in Adam's sin, peace be upon him? What is the fault of Christ to be tortured instead? Didn't your Holy Book say in Deuteronomy that fathers should not be put to death for children, nor should children be killed for fathers. Every person is killed by his own sin?
Is it justice for God to incarnate for some people to see and then oblige the rest of the nations that come after them to believe that while they did not see it? And why did he descend and incarnate to the Children of Israel only and deprive the rest of his servants from seeing him? Were there other nations at that time who deserved to be seen like them? Why did he not come down at the beginning of creation to cleanse it from sin instead of leaving them with their sin and among the prophets and messengers? Did God come to grieve his followers until the Day of Resurrection on his crucifixion? Imagine that one of the kings came to a people in their village or city, not to wait for him to bring them joy and give them gifts instead of making them sad and crying and living all their lives in memory of his pain and torture?

@@Sondous__23457 Whew, that's a long one, and I can't answer the whole thing But I can answer the first part. The reason why Jesus had to incarnate in a womb is that he had to have human qualities proper. In the same way, he submit to the law of Moses in the presentation to teach Obedience. Jesus needed to be truly human so that we may be able to relate to him. God came down to our level for our sake out of love for us.
As for why Mary specifically, it was because Mary was Holy for one, but she was also the culmination of the covenants. Abraham passed down a specific blessing to his descendants, finally ending in Mary's immaculate conception.

If our struggle with sin does not follow OUR timetable? And OUR ways? Then we give up on the whole spiritual journey and Jesus Christ as well. This don't put a timetable on it is such sage advice. Just stay in the struggle all the night of this worldly life of ours, just as Jacob did when he wrestled with the man all night.

I did a spiritual retreat in a jesuit center. After a prayer on the gospel, i had a strong feeling of being illuminated by god presence. The month after that, i didn't feel any need to watch porn. It has disappeared. Once i was praying and this verses came to my mind: "Your bodies are temples". After that, i was tempted anew, by rational arguments like "once a week can't be that bad". I fall back. Then I decided to stop again, but it was harder. Even now i have to pray and to use many firewalls.

First of all, God is all powerful. He has the ability to come into the world out of nothing, or through the womb of a a Woman. And he chose to come from the womb of a Woman and grow as a ordinary human because he wanted to be like us in all things. For us and for our salvation, out of his own infinite divine love, he humbled himself down to our humanity and offered himself up for it. He underwent every type of punishment of humanity so humanity would be free from punishment. You ask “but is this befitting of the almighty” well if you believe he’s all powerful then you know it’s possible for him because nothing is impossible. So the only question would be does God love us that much. And also ask, why didn’t God free us from sin at the beginning? And the answer is that the hearts of men were not willing to accept the offering until the appointed time of Christ’s death and resurrection. You have to keep in mind God knows all things and he knew what it would take to for most human in there free will to choose salvation. You ask, why would humanity be punished from Adams sin? And what guilt did Christ have, to die for it? The answer is that Adam brought sin into the world and humanity fell into a fallen state which gave us original sin. Original sin is the sinful nature of all of us. When God banished man from the garden of eden, that punishment was passed down to every generation because the first sin of Adam condemned all men. We are not responsible if our fathers sin apart from that. But we have lost the original grace God intended. I hope that has sufficiently answered your questions. If anything is unclear, or you have more questions feel free to ask.
Edit: I also almost forgot to mention the most important part. Jesus Christ had no fault in him. That is precisely why only by him paying our debt for us through his suffering and death, do we have hope for eternal life. Because God is the only offering truly worthy of God. The sacrifices of the Old law are symbols of the Christ to come. All of which was in the old was fulfilled by the life, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus, our savior, the eternal Word that was with God and that was God and was made flesh.

@@robertlaprime6203 If Jesus is capable of everything, then why wouldn’t he turn into a human without entering Mary’s womb? She would surely say to descend to our level, but wouldn’t it be more credible without entering Mary’s womb and would make people believe and also when you say that people’s hearts were not ready to accept the decree until the appointed time For Christ's death and resurrection, why did he not make it so without all this, if He is the One who is able, if He loves us, and when you say that Adam brought sin into the world and humanity fell into a state of fall that gave us the original sin. Original sin is the sinful nature of all of us. So why is Christ, when the people of Christ blamed Him for calling the wicked and sinners, He answered them, saying: “Because I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” Matthew 9:13. Christ divided people into two parts, righteous and sinners. If everyone inherited sin that sin, why did Christ divide people into two parts, righteous and sinners? This punishment was transmitted to every generation because Adam's first sin condemned all human beings. So why did he say? The following text was mentioned in the book of Ezekiel: ((The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, and the father shall not bear the iniquity of the son.)) (Ezekiel 18:20). This text indicates the responsibility of each individual for his sin and thus denies the inherited sin.

@@Sondous__23457 he came through Mary because he chose too. The prophet Isaiah said “Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a child and his name shall be called Emmanuel” which means God with us. He came through the Virgin to be truly like all of us in all things from the beginning and on. And this shows his humble nature. He showed himself as the glorious one that he is by his death and resurrection. Scripture says “no one is righteous, not even one” the verse you quoted was him speaking to those who were righteous in their own eyes and not in the eyes of God “every way of man is right in his own eyes but the Lord weigheth the hearts”(Proverbs 21:2). And finally God had to wait until the appointed time so that men’s hearts, having been prepared by all of the prophets, would be ready for the coming of Christ. He could have purposefully changed there hearts but he did not because it was his will that we be free to choose. God always gives us a choice to obey and to disobey, and those who repents from there sinful ways and are baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, are following the command of God. Now once again if there are anymore questions I’ll be glad to answer them.

@@robertlaprime6203 Well, it says that verse speaks those righteous people in their eyes, not in the eyes of Jesus, and how the speaker says, “Every way of man is correct in his eyes, except that the Lord trusts hearts.” (Proverbs 21:2). Jesus and in this verse he says, “No one is righteous, not even one.” What are these contradictions, and also how a God can die and be born, this is exactly like a human being. Sure you will say that he wanted to be humble and so on, but the only difference is that he was born without a father like him. Our father Adam, peace be upon him, so how can he be a god, and what is the evidence that the Bible is not distorted and there are several copies of it?

@ilam ilam 1. it is not a contradiction, Jesus was not saying some people are righteous and some people are not. He was saying that he wasn’t calling the righteous (because there are none that are righteous, only those that are righteous in there own eyes) but he was calling sinners to repentance.
      2. God has the power to make himself man by placing himself in the womb of a Virgin without a human father because God is his Father. And about his death, It’s important to know we define death as a separation between body and soul. Jesus is fully God meaning that he had a divine nature, and fully Man meaning that he has both a body and soul completely United to that divine nature. When we say he died he his body and soul were separated, not that in his divinity he somehow was in any less of a state of existence than he was before.
      3. 2000 years ago Jesus created a church, the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic church. It was in this church which The apostles chosen by Jesus wrote the New Testament scriptures, and and it was this church that Canonized which writings were indeed scriptures. And because we know historically this church was created by Christ’s chosen apostles we have faith that he guides the church to the truth “I have yet many things to say to you: but you cannot bear them now. But when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will teach you all the truth.” It’s true due the language barriers and different translations there have been some different versions of the Bible which are slightly different from one another but the majority of scripture is passed down from the earliest times of what we have from then unscathed. And even the differences within them are not so drastic as to change the actual meaning.
Also I would like to ask, what evidence is there that supports the claim that the Bible was distorted and there are many versions. There is undoubtedly false Scriptures but as I said. Jesus created a church and we through faith in God believe that the church will not be led astray into believing the false scriptures.

I finished it. Its very stoic but super helpful. Needs to be countered with the proper understanding of sin, original sin, sanctifying grace, gifts of the Holy Ghost, and Sacraments (particularly Penance and Communion). Thanks for the reference, fren ;)
