They were possibly testing fear_darkness known as the double jump ability in the release before the final, this is actually really cool because the devs really get on point and wanna get things done so us the players can enjoy by making early concepts in the alphas and putting them into the game.

The balcony is close to the barrier(up too) and has one door! Then peek through the key hole! Just figure it Out! Its fucking creepy!!!
Did you know that in the room that you unlock with the blue key you have to have a gun but you get on the white thing and with the gun you shoot the lever and you go up

Food kept on dropping down fro the roof... as if someone was trying to feed you, and the " marks " in the walls.. well maybye they were tally marks that the trapped person made counting the days that he/she trapped. and also maybye the glowing eyes was supposed to repersent the neighbor staring down and how it felt to the person like multiple scary eyes were staring at her? Now this probably isnt true XD but I think its fun to think about... oh and just to clarify Im talking about the first one which is fear of darkness
