Never dreamed I would see anything like this again Roger. The teams used to walk out on to the track to a famous R.A.F.song. Bill Bridget the promoter used to say over the microphone,Friday night is speedway night. My late father an me are on the third bend somewhere never used to miss a match,My father and me allways used to have a drink at the Manor pub Stoweath lane He would sup a pint, And myself a vimto.I would be 12 at the timeThen we would allways see the Pullman train on the railway track that runs along the stadium on our way to Monmore Green , At the end of the match Riders used to load their bikes on to a trailer and they would only be to glad to give us their goggles ,And autographs ,I can still remember the strong smell of the plastic and the thick elastic on the goggles all these years on.Thanks for posting Roger, Great days,Great memories.
+Brian Smith Glad you enjoyed it Brian. As you say happy days, happy memories. My first meeting at Monmore Green was in 1961, Wolves versus the 'Enemy', Cradley Heath! If I remember correctly, it was the 'RAF March Past' which they used for the parade of the riders. Now all these years later, I take my grandson to watch both Wolves and Cradley at Monmore Green.
+Roger Morgan Good luck to Wolves and the new season Roger.Still watch out for their results great start to the season lets hope the team can keep it up and avoid injuries. Not been since Sam Ermolenko finished, Used to love our clashes with Cradley then,Sam came to the bar where my brother an I were enjoying a pint at Monmore. He said what you guys drinking?Lager I Said just thinking he was being sociable. Next thing he placed two lagers in front of us including a few more around us the barmen said that forty seven pounds for the round. No problem he replied,Great bloke ,Great rider was Sam, Miss going now Roger mainly because of ill health,Very nice chatting
wonderful footage - the old track lighting which replaced around 1970 then again in the 1980s, three starting tapes instead of two and the crowd looks very healthy. i started going in 1972 & still remember bill Bridgetts antics. he was a real promoter in the best sense of the word. Ole was my hero, what a 'star' rider he was.
Great footage, thanks for sharing. The main stand hasn't changed in years. I remember the stand on the back straight being like that when I regularly went in the 80's/90's.
Russell Eynon Thanks. The main stand is not the original. It replaced the original stand which burnt down around '64. I started going to Monmore Green in '62 and they had fantastic crowds right through the sixties and into the seventies.
Great footage it looks like my dad is riding No 3 Pete Vandenberg not seen colour foootage before brings back great memories thank you for sharing Roger.
Love this...I made visits to Monmore in this period - I was a Cradley fan - and there are some features from that time that I'd long forgotten...👍👍

Glad you enjoyed it Pete. Yes, it is Peter Vandenberg in the number three race jacket. If I remember correctly he was Team Captain at that time.
