Lived both the nomad and rv full time lives for 6 years now. All these channels make it looks like a full time vacation. When you treat it like that, its expensive and exhausting. Slow down, take the spots in the lesser known parks for weeks or even a month or even months. Its ok to spend a summer in one place. There are ways to make it less expensive then traditional living, but not how the big tubers show how to do it.
We look for county or city parks that have RV spaces. For instance, Calcasieu parish near Lake Charles La, beautiful spot for $12 a day full hook up’s. Many parks like this are mostly unused in areas all around!
Fulltime RVer 16 years in the same truck and 5th wheel with my pets. Sold my house and everything else to buy my rig with the idea of mostly boondocking with staying power: i.e. large water tank, catalytic heater, and solar power. I may move in a year from the desert to the mountains with 3 or 4 stops along the way. It's the same strategy as country living where you make a trip to nearby town biweekly or monthly. I've never been bored and I can paint, hike with my dogs, or read whenever I wish. It's freedom. 👍😊
@@summerstardust2064 beautiful. Ten years in. Theres been amazing highs multiple times with a couple significant lows. I put both my front wheels through two different septic tanks. unmarked of course. long story.
I bet you don't now...the internet has ruined the great outdoors. You can't go anywhere or do anything outdoors without a crowd of youtube hippies making videos.
I LOVE my Coleman 2-burner stove that runs on white gas. I usually buy kerosene for it because it's cheap and available here in Reno. I can pitch my tent in the dark or sleep on my cot outside or, in a pinch, sleep inside the bed of my truck. I cannot even imagine paying what these folks pay for campers.
I retmember camping on a beach in Mexico a few years ago when two big rigs showed up with their RUclips channels and social media accounts plastered all over the sides of the rigs. They spent two days there, sitting next to their rigs, making videos of themselves interviewing each other, then packed up and left. Never left their campsite to go to the beach, fish or watch the sunset, just making videos. What a life.
I watched 3 different "Why we are quitting RVing" videos before I watched this video. All 3 turned out to be click bait. None were actually quitting. Thanks for telling the truth.
Anna Uncharted quit vanlife. Mariah Alice quit vanlife. Kels and Jay quit vanlife. Travel Snacks quit vanlife. Christian Schaffer plan to quit vanlife and buy some acres @ Washington. Linnea & Akela bought some acres and start building. Vanlife is fun and interesting first year or two. You change places, move from the forest to the mountains, stop at lakes or look for a parking place. And then you realize that you have already seen all this. All mountains are similar to each other, all forests are similar to each other. Things get even worse if you have a remote job. You can stop in a beautiful place, but you can’t really see anything, because you’re working. And even if you could, you can't leave the van unattended for long. In fact, you have even less freedom in a van than in the city. All you can do is go for a walk, take a photo, swim in the lake and watch TV. Homeless people live "richer" lives.
@user-mx5kt1wj1e city life ain't all you say it is. I can have my own private theater with kitchen needs sleep needs and toilet needs. With the right set up you could have desk space and a gaming set up. I don't really think homeless people would pass up a nice van home! If a homeless person heard you say that they would slap the skin off your face!
There are plenty of us who could not care less about being part of the cool kids club, and love nothing more than being out there by ourselves. As far as l'm concerned, the more that quit the better. And hopefully it won't all be shut down before they do.
I'm in it for my sanity, I'm a live in nurse and I can do my job anywhere, I spend most of my time living in someone else's home but I'm still paying over 2,000 a month tent for some place I'm only in 8 day's a month, unfortunately I lost my husband to cancer and now I have no ties anywhere and I'm ready to see everything i can with the time I have left, I'm buying a mini rv for me and my Taffy Bean ( chihuahua) and I'm planning to find a spot, work a few months take a month off and just enjoy whatever there is to see in this country ❤❤
Im sorry. Maybe check out cheap rv living. He talks about meet ups that they do. Ithink called RT ishrubber tramp meet. They make new friends. Heard avery cheap spot in az on ?blm kand but a 30 min drive to walnrt etc! ❤ 😅 😊
I was a trucker for 20 years over the road. I’ve been retired at home for 1 year and I’m going nuts. In the truck I learned to be self sustaining with everything I needed other than running water. I’m in the process of building out my recently purchased 17ft box truck including four wheel drive. Can’t wait to get back out there. I won’t be a RUclipsr but certainly will harvest all the info. Those people didn’t enjoy it because they made it to be work.
I did 42 years in a Tractor/Trailers. I walked in for a return to work DOT physical after seasonal layoff. They said something didnt sound right and wanted a cardiac work up. I was effectively done that day. No warning. Lucky my wife had gone back to college or we’d of lost everything. Better cover all your bases with insurance or something. You don’t want to be on the street because of your choices. You wanna cover the street not live there😂😂
Do not quit RV life! Buy off grid land and get a solar panel setup. Attach it to dehumidifiers for clean free water. Once you have food, water and shelter you are free to go at your own pace!
Got my PhD in RV YT videos BEFORE we got our first rig; thought I had it all down. And I did, for the most part. What I didn't realize that most (not all) the RV influencers had another motive, and that was to sell "stuff". Once I saw the behavior pattern, I noticed it's not just in the RV industry...it's everywhere. Took me some time to simmer down (fooled once, but not twice phrase), I took was valuable to me at the time & disregarded the rest. I understand there is money to be made, and so I started scrutinizing the ones I had subscribed to, unsubscribed the duplicates and stuck with the ones that seemed to be genuine in their presentation. I know that is subjective, but it has reduced the hours that I now watch and jumping on the purchasing the latest "shiny object syndrome"....as well as reducing my cargo weight. Anyway, I appreciate your honesty and transparency. Happy Travels!
I'm in the UK and have a narrowboat that I live on for 5-6 months a year, lot of crossover with boats and RV/vanlifeers. I know someone that started doing youtube and he told me how much some of the 'celeb' narrowboaters could make. What annoyed me was that a particular couple I know claimed poverty and people would offer to buy them stuff. Sickened me a bit. Incidentally, they went and gotta smallholding/farmstead
We just moved to a RV Park for stationery Living. We are in our Late 60s and early 70s. We love it. No lawns to Mow. Free electric, free Internet. Free sewer, We buy our propane. A dog park, washer area, Shower s. Gates locked At night. With code for Use. No complants Here.. no mowing is Worth it..the RV is a 80s model. Very well Taken care of.paid 1,000 for it 3 years Ago. Lots of space for Storing, everyone who Comes to vist loves The way its set up. We feel very lucky. We can survive on Our. Living ways now. Very quiet , nice clean Well kept RV park..
My wife and I went with your life change in 2006. We stayed on the road for 17 years working around the Western US and Snow Birding in Apache Junction, AZ. It’s a great life style. We got out mostly because of the cost of keeping our RV Unit going. But when we left, we found a place in AJ, AZ that was much like RV living. We now sit out front of our house and talk with our neighbors as they walk by. Have get togethers and the like. So if you’re on the road, keep on keeping on, and have fun. Life always changes.
I love hearing these stories.17 years is a long time. 17 years of memories that you can share with your friends, family, and neighbors! That’s living! ❤️
Agree. This is exactly what we do. We aren’t on vacation, it’s a lifestyle. We enjoy sitting still for a few months, getting to know the area and when it’s time to move, we prefer taking the path less traveled. We’ve found some pretty cool places we’d have never found otherwise.
This country has so much to offer and the best part of this lifestyle is that you can stay how long (or short) as you want :) safe travels, Bob & Karri
Hubby and I will begin full timing in June 2024. We will stay put for 2 months at a time. We have researched for years and know what we are getting into!
>We enjoy sitting still for a few months That's why people quit RVing. If you’re going to sit in one place, it’s better to sit in a spacious house with water, electricity and sewerage. And don’t worry about batteries, solar panels, car repairs or draining black water.
Thank you so much for being so brutally honest! Your views and comments were so true and sad at the same time. I've never been the type to follow someone just was cuz I saw them on RUclips. I will tell you this though, my wife and I bought an RV about two months ago and we would never consider getting rid of our home. We have a small farm with a few cows and chickens and turkeys, and a huge Garden. So our plan is to only go to RV destinations when it's a little colder outside and keep our jobs.
That is the beautiful part of RV life - everyone’s way is the right way! Thank you for taking the time to comment and share your story as well, we love this ❤️
This was spot on, and I hate to break it to the folks who are ‘implying’ they are quitting only to try and pick up other sponsors on a different hobby, people across the board are just kinda sick of the whole ‘sponsorship’ thing in general I believe 🤷🏻♀️ it doesn’t matter if it’s homesteading, carnivore/keto, car collector, antiques, whatever ~ the whole RUclips space is just over saturated with sponsors, and with the state of our economy right now, people seem to be done. I kept YT as my ONLY social media so I could use it as a platform to try and educate myself on different topics, however I’m seriously considering a hiatus. Thanks for keeping it real with us, that’s what makes you stand out from the rest, I just unfollowed a ton of folks yesterday because it’s so fake what they are posting!
You are correct. It’s like one big infomercial. We like to have fun with it and embarrass our kids from time to time along the way .😀We appreciate the kind words!
@@liferedesigned Thanks for the video guys.. this has needed to be said for some time. Too many creators just doing it for sponsorship these days and not really enjoying what they're doing anymore, which in the end turns into fake videos and misinformation. I have no idea why you popped up on my feed, but you must be doing something right for that to happen.. I watched it all and enjoyed it. Thank you. Keep it real guys, take care
And it's no good. Many new "vanlifers" bought vans because of bills, they hate vanlife, it's a necessary measure. Another category are "pigs". They buy huge motorhomes, occupy six slots in the Walmart parking lot, run generators 24/7, make fires right in the parking lot and dump black water into the nearest bushes. That's why there are signs "No overnight parking" everywhere now.
Hi Bob and Carrie, thank you for telling the truth the real challenges rv'ers face, and for revealing the true intentions of the click baiters. My husband and I are retired military and are looking forward to rv'ing during the next chapter in our lives. We have been immersed in RUclips videos, rv specs, rv manufactures/dealers, etc., and are feeling the effects of the information overload y'all talked about. Thank you for being honest with us and for standing by your convictions by avoiding corporate sponsorship. I normally look at previously posted videos before I subscribe to someone's channel, but not this time. This time, I instantly subscribed halfway through this video. Y'all are truly genuine.
All so very true!! We are retired and 65 years old, been rv’ing since early 90’s. Part time.. bought another big class C brand new 2 years ago. I see these big channels with the sponsors but I don’t buy what they pitch. I spent 3,000 dollars on making it handle and ride better and a satilite for tv. That’s it. No snap pads, high end water filters etc. we stay out 3 to 4 weeks at a pop, go home for a bit and do it again. We are fine just like we are and for us keeping our home has had benifits. I really like both of you’d honesty about rv’ing and your campgrounds reviews. Keep it up as long as you feel like it. We’ll be watching.
Hi Rick! I think what you do is incredible! You are getting out there and enjoying life…that’s what it’s all about! Thank you for sharing and the kind words. Take care!
Thank you for being honest. There are many unscrupulous people here on YT whom may have started off years ago with good intentions but have evolved into scammers who drive around in $200,000 rigs and push products. They are dishonest and are not focusing in camping but only on making money. Thank you for your post.
You just summed it up in a nutshell. I have two youtube channels. Our RV channel stays stagnant because we aren't full timers so we only make videos every couple of months. My preparedness/Homestead channel does well only when I show my pantry. Otherwise, its like crickets over here if I show any other content. I guess youtube algorithms get to decide what channels blow up and which fly under the radar. I will be honest, i prefer the smaller channels. When they start peddling products people send them is when i check out. Thanks for this video. It was spot on.
I’m literally doing exactly what y’all did…sold it all…set up the kids and watching tons of RUclips waiting for the closing on my house to get my C Class and hit it. Thanks for the honesty and the warnings. Much appreciated folks.
ty so much for this honest breakdown. I have been researching on the road living as an alternative. Ty for making me aware of the downside, and that most videos are for profit...ps: I am glad you are not giving in to you tube for paid promotions; I truly respect this, ty, Nicole
Thank you! We have no issues with paid promotions per say BUT they need to be open and honest! Travel life is amazing and unfortunately is over sensationalized- do your research and you will be fine! Safe Travels, Bob & Karri
This is another example of "The grass is always greener on the other side". If someone is seriously thinking of selling everything and living full time in an RV, I would strongly suggest they give it a great deal of thought and research. When someone makes life changing decisions based on emotions they are setting themselves up for failure.
I agree. Rent something and stay out a few months before spending and making major commitments. Some folks have never been camping in their entire life. Rent your home out until you are sure.
Soooo glad I found your channel. I have learned we would really like to downsize and get a small RV to do some traveling part time, but still have a home base. Really appreciate the honesty. It’s great!
Thank you for the honesty, don't get that enough anymore, I have much more respect for honesty than anything else. With that comes trust and with that comes loyalty and respect. Thanks and rock on! Jerry C.
I totally agree with you. I'll be on my 5th year full time soon and I feel like I only just began! I have no intention of quitting. There is so much to see and do.
That is awesome and exactly how we feel. We have been traveling for the past 6 years and full time the past year - no intentions of coming off the road!
Five years ago I set myself a goal of seeing the lower 48 states within five years. That will be Dec 2023 i.e I'm about to check that box. My brother said I'll not last two months. Five years later and it is getting better. In five years do one only scratch the surface of this country though. Some places need to be revisited.
FINALLY, 2 PEOPLE WHO ARE HONEST!!!! I respect the hell outta you guys! I'm sick and tired of youtubers portraying a lifestyle that is NOTHING close to reality! It's like these people are NEVER tired after driving 6 to 8 hours or more. I'm really curious where they get their tires, because I haven't seen 1 person as of yet get a flat tire! I've been a full timer before and my hubster and I should have an RV and be on the road within about a month. We live on the outskirts of Portland Oregon and we just can't take the city life anymore. It's scary as hell here. People are zonked out of their brains on drugs and it's a squatters paradise. I look at it this way--- NO lifestyle is without hardships and setbacks. But overall, we feel in our hearts that this is the path we need to take for our health and happiness. I'm really glad I came across your channel and I hope to make some friends here and be able to hear the TRUTH. As we slowly travel through the Pacific Northwest, I hope to gather maps (especially old ones), get info on good (hopefully free) places to stay and other good info to have. If anyone could use this info, just let me know and I'll send it for free. I'm not making ANY money off this. I'm just trying to help folks. If anybody has any info on the Pacific Northwest that'd help me, I'd be grateful! I think it's time we all steer clear of the money grabbers and get back to helping each other because that's what humans are supposed to do. I'm really excited to finally hear youtubers who speak the truth and aren't in it to stir up drama to make money! God bless y'all! ❤
i'm starting to think some aren't even fulltime in a van or an RV. They have a home, and are pretending. A while back, a girl was talking about her van life, but the woods weren't thick enough behind her, and her parents/her house could be seen in the background for a couple seconds.
Thanks!!!! I’m glad I found you! I’m planning to travel our beautiful country for at least a year and have been researching and asking questions from channels, personal RVers, etc for over a year and still plan to pull the trigger!!! Keep it simple is my motto ❤
Great video guys. We were just talking about this a few days ago. We didn’t rush out & buy everything everyone said was a necessity. We buy it if and when we need it. And it is a lot more expensive than we were led to believe.
Smart moves! It is definitely pricey - we are finding ways more and more to slow the hemorrhaging. Slowing down and enjoying the journey more also helps 😀
My wife & I were Full Time RVers for just over 2 1/2 years. One of the biggest problems we encountered was bad behavior by other RVers/campers. A lot of people went out during the Covid lockdowns and purchased RV's, but never took the time to learn any RV etiquette. Campground rules meant nothing to them, and they had no common sense or courtesy. Another thing we learned was most Campgrounds will not enforce their own rules because they are too afraid of someone giving them a bad review online. We were work campers and traveled from one work-camping gig to the next, that's how we made our living. Also, many of the places we stayed at were remote and we had to travel pretty far to go grocery shopping, and some of the places we had to shop at were expensive. Cell service was also iffy, as was WiFi. We've since sold our travel trailer and purchased a house. We find we are more comfortable back in a sticks & bricks house, we have less stress, and we're doing better financially now, than when we were on the road. One more thing. As work campers, we discovered that more and more campgrounds are figuring out that they don't have to pay you for your work. They want you to work a certain number of hours in exchange for your site, and will not give you any paid hours over that.. Full Time RVing just got to be too much of a hassle, so we quit full timing. But we did meet some great people while we were full timing, and we still remain friends with them. JT & Jo-Ann
I’m 54 and wanted to live in a van since I was a kid and read A Walk Across America. It was a different country back then. I’ve watched with amusement the vanlife RUclips trend grow; I figured making money on videos is like a pyramid scheme, only the first in make money. I still might follow that dream. For now I’m taking care of my dad. Thank you for sharing.
My husband and I have full timed for over 6 years total, in 1999 and 2000 with our youngest son who was 12 years old and homeschooled. Not a lot of families or info out there then! Family concerns had us give it up until 2019 and we have been full-time since then. One thing people need to understand watching those RUclips videos is that you may feel like you know them but they do NOT know you. You will make your own group of friends but chances are it will not be anyone you saw on RUclips. Also keep in mind not only do they have sponsorships, but also get free entrance to many activities they show, preferential treatment at repair shops, access to camping apps based on mentioning them on their videos etc. If you actually purchased all the campground memberships, apps, and lots of other stuff that are mentioned in videos, you would be down quite a bit of money every month. Speaking of money, don't be taken in by many of the "we RV for this amount of money". Many of them feel that any expenses such as insurance, repair bills, medical, maintenance, don't really count because they are unpredictable! We love our full-time lifestyle but go into it doing some research on your wants and needs and income. There are lots of ways to make it work but for most of us it won't be becoming RUclips Stars!
Very well stated and factual! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. This community continues to grow and become stronger due to involvement like this!
What they NEVER talk about is the OPPORTUNITY cost of lost appreciation through home ownership! All these 20/30 somethings hanging out in the forests looks "cool" on instagram but isn't so "cool" when they are 40+, NO HOME, no money in the bank. I've got many hundreds of thousands in equity in my home through virtually no effort. The whole "I live for free on BLM land" garbage is just that, garbage. And the whole anti "sticks and bricks" thing makes me want to vomit. It shows how limited their financial knowledge is YET THEY ALL TALK AS IF THEY ARE SO SMART ABOUT HOW MUCH THEY ARE "SAVING". I just shake my head and keep quiet about my money/assets/paid off home/etc and try to enjoy the conversations.
Thanks for the honesty and keeping it real 😊. Just subscribed! You two are a breath of fresh air amidst all the sponsored RUclipsrs. Keep up the great videos.
We inherited a timeshare and use it to travel. Our home is an old Italianate house built in 1884. We love it and enjoy having roots here. Good luck to all the nomads!!!
Like your honesty and candidness… First time to your channel… You have a new subscriber. My wife and I plan on joining this lifestyle once my Mom passes who we take care of and have for many years… She is 81 now. This will be our lifestyle as we travel the US sight seeing, camping and looking for land to purchase for our final life on a homestead…
RVing full time is oodles more expensive than people believe...and RV parks are commonly sold out many months ahead of time. It's not a lifestyle I could do, but I understand the draw. If you guys keep your videos genuine, your channel will just continue to grow.
I thought it would be fun BUT it's a big hassle when you can't get a spot or you got mechanical problems. You gotta have resources to pay for those repairs. So many have resorted to the RV and then stuck. I like stability...so RV trips are nice and so is GOING HOME 👍😁
Its a lot like trucking. People get in thinking it's going to be so much fun, they quit two weeks in. this happens to me over and over. I feel like rv life is very simular for many of the same reasons..
So appreciate this. It's something I've noticed about music production videos, gear reviews, etc. on RUclips. Oh, and all the click-bait titles and 😱 pics
Another sensible video, thanks guys, I am so pleased we stumbled onto your channel, We are just starting our journey with youtube and the "everyone quitting" hype just did not make sense to us, but I guess if you get sucked into the money trap then the focus gets warped out of shape. I know we will bump into many RVer's with real and valuable advise learnt from their real experiences, not corporate sponsored experience's.
Enjoyed hearing you 2 - bless you and enjoy - I'm relaxing on my couch, legs up, watching the sun setting through my land bound living room front window condo in San Fernando Valley
The biggest realization that most people need to come to grips with is this: You'd better be somewhat mechanical or have some real-life practical engineering experience. No matter whose rig you purchase, be prepared for things to break, fall apart, or malfunction. Look at it this way: Your home on wheels is experiencing an earthquake every time you move it. If you can handle that, mentally and physically, you are good to go. Add the weight of a well-stocked toolbox to your capacity.
I agree as well, sitting on my 1886 HOUSE porch. Real Life note; some friends of mine bought a USED motor home. The man was skilled in the right trades. I got a call one day that they sold the motor home, and rented a real place to live. Problem? they needed a new front windshield, for $15K IF they could find a used one! They paid $6K for the rig. Nope, sold it, they could not afford the daily expense and the new window and repairs and on and on
This! This comment is exactly right. The repairs and problems never end, even on a brand new RV. The flowers and butterflies being sold on some of these channels is too much. Hitting the road based off of what some of these channels are selling, it won’t last. My kind of channel is the one where you see the couple briefly arguing about the directions back to the highway, who misplaced the spare fuses when you really, really need them, and the tension when the the door decides to lock itself while the keys are inside the trailer. Now that is a channel I will follow because that is real life, or mine at least. 😂
You don't need all that stuff I use an old paper map. I've camped all my life and I love my RV and I'm 78 and going until I can't. The more that quit the more room for me. I don't buy any of that junk and wouldn't know how to use some of it anyway. Enjoy. Don't stress. Oh and by the way I'm a woman by myself.❤ God bless and happy trails. Lol.
YEAH. BUT NOWADAYS WITH THE OVER-RUNNING OF ILLEGALS CROSSING & TAKING OVER& BEING GIVEN EVERYTHING ON THE GRAVY-TRAIN FROM THE GET-GO, THE NEIGHBORHOOD, TOWN OR CITY & FRIENDS WON'T STICK AROUND. THEY'RE SHUTTING DOWN, CLOSING SHOP & MOVING AWAY CUZ IT'S NOT SAFE ANYMORE. THIS IS BIDENS "NEW AMERICA". WE ARE SO UN-UNITED (I FEEL) BECUZ OF HIM & HIS NUT-JOB, PARTNERS IN-CRIME. #FJB
What some see as a comforting routine, others see as wearing a straight jacket while walking in the world's deepest rut. And therein lies the beauty of life. For some, fulfillment is in perfecting and polishing a single diamond till it blinds the eye. For others it is walking on a strange empty beach at midnight while the palm fronds rustle overhead. Each a one time event they will hide among the treasures in the heart of hearts. Just as we can't share fingerprints, we cannot share the same dream. Your path and mine diverge, and neither is the better, only different. May peace and understanding be upon us all.
Hello, Just came across your channel, great content😊 Just subscribed. Thank you for your honesty, it’s hard to find nowadays. My husband & I just started a RUclips channel, so far so good. We are RV’ers also, personally we love the lifestyle, nice to sleep on our own bed on our own sheets, and we love not having to use a bathroom that millions of other people use. Please keep the great content coming!
Thank you for addressing this! I've seen those videos and immediately realized that those creators were intentionally duping their followers with inauthentic content... they all seem to be desperately throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks... and brings in the clicks. No flower likes realizing they're being played. I appreciate your honesty and hope that those who are angry about being called out on their tactics start changing things up instead of selling out.
Glad I found your channel/video first. Planning on giving it a go in the future. Look forward to learning as much as possible from trust worthy sources. I believe you guys fit the bill. Thanks
People who are savvy, and that do their research, like I did, do not get sucked into the ad sponsors, lies, and/or I skip those "commercials!" I am a retired teacher, so I'm good at picking up BS talk! Anyway, I happen to love my RV life, and my secret is to keep it simple. I am an outdoor enthusiast, and a hiker, so I love this part. Yes, it is work, but I am not mechanical at all, so I depend on professionals to check my camper. Thank you for your honesty!!
This is the first time that RUclips let me see your channel. Very different, and enjoyable. Nice to see someone who is honest about what is really going on. Subscribed and gave a thumbs up. Thank you.
I’ve dropped a few channels for getting overly political and religious. Dropped others because some are making themselves seem full time when they’re not. The RV Snap Pad and RV mattress commercials i fast forward through. I really like finding the RVers who are just starting out with their channels also.
We agree - we watch RUclips to unwind and distract from politics etc - not really something we need to do or be involved in :) There are a lot of great smaller channels out there - stay tuned, we are working on a project that will bring more attention to smaller, HONEST channels.
I just ran across this video and had to subscribe. Definitely has alot of great points here. All the work that they put into videos 800 a month isn't very much when u add in the travel expenses the stuff need to film the video. I know first hand as a guy who is trying to film my camping adventures along with atv trails and hikes. This guy is definitely saying it as it really is.
My hubby & I started our retirement life as full time RVer's! (2011). We did enjoy it alot & made several friends - seem a lot of the country on our own time frame. We got to cross over the Mississippi river in 2022 and our 1st stop was Paducah Kentucky. This was the right place for both of us - so we settled here! We don't regret letting go of the RV & the lifestyle, but there were issues coming up (needed repairs to the rig, problems finding places to park that was in our budget, our ages & the abilities to drive the rig,...). We're happy that we have resettled on our dream (own a small house on 1/2 acre of land & paid cash for it all ❤!) We still travel to see places & events, but now it's hotels and shorter trips.
We live in Indianapolis Indiana now for 8 years.moved from AZ. WE BOTH ARE IN OUR 80S. I AM 87 PEGI 81. SHE IS AN ARTIST IN OILS AND I AM A POTTER. I have been a house painter, drywall person over 56 years and still working part time. I have worked union and non. I would love to do some RVing again but not Pegi.
I appreciate your authenticity regarding your experiences. Living life on one’s own terms is what I enjoy most about the choices we have along our journeys. I agree that there isn’t a specific lifestyle that fits ALL people. Time is precious, therefore discover what brings you joy. The open road and nature bring me peace. Thanks for honestly sharing yours.
Thankfully Ive never wanted to be part of the cool kid bunch, so I dont concern myself with what everyone is doing. Thanks for putting what reality is out there and I hope to see you guys continue to grow your channel.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!! Your description of how RUclipsrs tell you they can now settle down and live on one acre and be happy is exactly what I heard from a famous RVer lady. Nailed her pitch to a T. I really appreciate your insight on this sales pitch. Thanks, Doug Belen, New Mexico U.S.A.
Because you both honesties, I chose subscribed your channel and from here I would like to support your channel. And yes, your both right, I have been watching lots of videos. Some channel they always talking about how they disappointed when they started. Most of the circumstantial about finances and maintenance issues. It makes them quit easily. I also agreed with you that people who make videos about quitting but soon or later you still see them on the same road.
Thanks for being so straight forward on being an RVer! One RUclips couple figured out how much they spend a year on the road including everything you mentioned - vehicle repairs to RV fees to food. Their total - $33,000. Now, I think they do spend a little more than many do. For instance, they switched out one new RV for another and I thought maybe there was some sponsorship from the dealer or manufacturer. But, yes it's expensive and trying to figure out if I should leave my comfy home for becoming a nomad makes me realize what a wuss I am. 😅
Thank you for being so upfront. with the way the economy is going I can see many more people buying camp trailers to live in. My niece is in a 5 th wheel because a house is $400000.00 K on up in Oregon. We park host so we can at least camp. Love having the 22MLE it works great for us and 2 fur kids.
We are so glad we downsized and kept our home base. It seems so many people who didn't are now going back to having a home base. We think it's to each his own. There are pros and cons to everything. Lynn and Danny
Some of them big channels the people are young.. so there on there way to getting Married and have babies.. so there doing the homesteading thing …people like me and u waited until are kids where grown.. now we are out here..
Great to start following you two! We're currently on a Carver 440 motoring America's Great Loop but thinking about getting a motorhome. It will good to see the ups and downs of that life. Thanks for sharing!
Thank You for your integrity. A lot of folks fell into the "big channel" trap when COVID hit looking for a way to get away from "the infected one's". 👍
Thank you for your genuine honesty. I’ve watched a lot of RV vids just because I enjoy living through everybody else because my wife would never get on board with doing it so I’ll never get to. But I can still dream!
I am new to fifth wheel full time living. I am also stationary full-time living in a park close to my original home-base. I am loving my life and I did it because there is a housing shortage in my area. I am learning a lot about my rig and I am enjoying life. I have two special needs teen and we are having a blast! I appreciate the honesty in that it is not easy to live this way but the rewards are fabulous views and friends.
Thank you. I needed this video. I've been planning RV living for last few years and I'm about to do it. Was a little worried seeing these quitting videos.
Yeah it is so sad to see RUclipsrs playing the audience like that just because their content is lacking. Every RV park we have been to since full timing has been 90-100% full. You will be fine and in good company on the road 😀
I got the RV bug back in the 70's with Shazam! and Ark 2. I was also bitten by the green energy bug and was interested in tiny living by the new Microhotels in Japan and the space program. I just got into the RV life (at least my engineered version) of it but it has been a lifelong dream. No WAY am I leaving! :-)
Thanks for this honest, "behind the scenery" perspective of what's going on in the minds of YT marketers. In all marketing, the trends come and go, and it's about catching the next wave and milking what's popular this year for revenue. It's not really about giving an honest perspective. YT trenders unfortunately are no different.
We just purchased our first RV. I have been binging on different channels and notice what you are talking about! I just subscribed. I appreciate the info without feeling like i just got caught by a infomercial. Thanks
First - CONGRATS on the RV! Second, thank you for watching our little channel and taking the time to comment! Some of the channels are in such a “money grab” that they forget what it is like to be a viewer- very sad!
I wish every retired single woman, watching Dream RV Life videos with their Chardonnay Girls would watch your video. I don’t want to disappoint these ladies but they scare me with their naïveté. I’ve asked them, “So…have you been camping a lot? Are you good working on cars and trucks? Plumbing?” “Unnnmmm…we’re gonna watch videos and I ordered a travel fire pit…” And I’m instantly the buzz kill. They don’t know these Dream RV videos are about advertising. They don’t know how expensive and sketchy this nomadic life can be. RV parks are at capacity and might become more crowded than ever with the current economy. Thank you for unpacking this truth! Enjoy your next adventure❤️
A dozen years ago when I began RVing full time the old veteran RVers I met told me that most people don’t last two years and that the 5-7 year duration is when folks either adapt to the lifestyle or, having “seen it all”, leave out of boredom and seek that next novelty. The difference nowadays in s that these “adventure seekers” have been stuck in the lifestyle because of the money. Most would have bailed out by two years if not for that. And those who persisted despite hating it more each day are hitting that 5-7 year wall of boredom. And, as you astutely pointed out, jumping into the next gold rush. That won’t last either.
When I was young and well, I lived a similar lifestyle on a sailboat. I sailed from Seattle to Hong Kong via a very meandering route. It took 30 days to sail from LA to the Marquesas. Now I'm old and not so healthy, so I'm going to go RV-ing. Good hospitals are not many hours away. Same deal, but no fear of drowning, and no needing to move on due to visa issues. I lived with my grandparents when I was a boy, and they were RVers before it was a thing.
3 years now fulltime in our GD 5th and we aren’t going anywhere. We’ve been through it all and have no regrets! We make a few videos here and there and are having the time of our lives!
This lifestyle has it’s advantages if and when the SHTF. You will already have many skills needed to adapt. I do think a small parcel of land is a good thing to own in the right place. Who knows what the future holds.
Was on the road for 2+ years and sort of saw this coming. It corresponded with the general difficulties people had/have with the economy - so many couldn't afford their home lifestyles any longer and went on the road to save, to live more cheaply. They find an RV park and just squat. The number of reasonably priced spaces dried-up and now too many parks are owned by investors. There's no good end to this as the prices will continue to rise, the rigs are being made more cheaply and are breaking a lot and fuel prices are continuing up. Fortunately I kept my house and moved back. I don't follow the RV channels now but I can imagine. In the western world today if it seems too good to be true, it is. Someone with $$ will buy up the good parts and force everyone else to pay pay pay. The first RUclipsrs on a topic may be honest and dedicated, but the subsequent ones are just chasing the money. Is anyone really surprised?
There are reasonably priced RV spots, if you rent by the month or season. But it may not be the case in the places you'd like to live. I paid $2000 for a year, but my rig will be winterized for half that time. Still, I can keep it in the same spot and come back to it in the summer.
I just started this lifestyle over three months ago. For now I'm in what I call myself first grade. There's a lot of learning to this. So far so good. Let's see how I feel in a year or so. Thank you for this video.
1994 I was a younger man and the family business I worked for had a family member that sold a successful business and traveled the country in a Rv, I couldn't wrap my head around it. But I was fascinated by the true freedom of nomad living. Of course the millions in the account helped I'm sure.
I think you guys articulated the situation perfectly. I think some of the RV’ers have used youtube as a means to ultimately start a new business. I’m Not Lost I’m RVing comes to mind. After a couple of years they “discovered “ the need for solar panels onRV’s
Everyone always want to take the easy way and be famous for 15 minutes! Both my wife and I are traveling nurses and we love that freedom but will never give up our Homestead. And believe me when I tell you you probably already know homesteading is very difficult almost as hard as being a nurse.
I really appreciate your open and candidness about the business backroom of YouTubing. I’ve already witnessed a content creator I’ve subscribed to for years make a transition just as you described from sailing to RVing, I wonder if they will homestead next. 😂
Would not surprise us lol. The good part is that there is a great amount of honest RUclipsrs out there. We try to lead by example and see that quite a few are joining us.😀
Quit RV life? I'm just getting started! I didn't get into this because of RUclips nor will I quit because of it. My wife and I have traveled much of the world in our working life and now that we are retired we are not being paid to travel but we want to see the treasure trove of things that are here in the US and RV life has helped us to do that. While RV life is not simple, easy or cheap; There are ways to spend most of our time traveling in the US and keep the costs realistic. RUclips has helped us to figure out how to do that. I don't understand people who want a home base because we got in this to travel not camp in one place. I guess covid was an eye opener for alot of people and they wanted stability of where to stay when every thing was closing. This turned out to be BS because we were on the road when covid got serious and it changed very little but we always knew we had a place to go. With this said I think it is important for full timers to be realistic and have an exit plan when RV life no longer works due to age or health.
Well said Joseph! We have no plans to stop anytime soon but do have money set aside for if/when the need arises. Safe Travels and thank you for taking the time to comment 😀
I love camping and have a travel trailer and have spent hours watching you tube videos. But, there is no way I would sell my home and hit the road full-time. I need roots and family. I am happy that you have said what I thought all along about the glamorous, life is a vacation 24/7 full timers. I like variety like getting away from it all for a while, spending the hot summer days in my backyard pool, camping in the fall when the leaves are changing, holidays with my family and cold winter days by the fire with hot chocolate and a good book. Full time RVing was never in my plans.
Make no mistake - going full time was the best decision we ever made, BUT that is for Us. This lifestyle is not easy and not for everyone. You have to make your life journey work for you. Life is extremely short, do what makes YOU happy :)
Thank you for this! Literally I typed in RV life and 5 out of 6 of the videos that popped up about "leaving the rv life". Haha. Not oddly, I chose to watch yalls first, and I'll still on track to get me a really cheap, brand new one in the near future. Thanks for keeping focused. Stay safe and let the time be a blessing from the Lord Jesus. ❤
💯 agree! Well said!
Justin,
How do you find the out of the place or hidden sites. We are planning to stay 30 days at each set up locations.
Exactly
We look for county or city parks that have RV spaces. For instance, Calcasieu parish near Lake Charles La, beautiful spot for $12 a day full hook up’s. Many parks like this are mostly unused in areas all around!
@@cisco1dog Nice Tip!
The more people leave RV life, the more room for those that LOVE the lifestyle. I sold my house in 2016. For me it was the best move EVER...
We agree 100% Full Time and proud!
and the RV parks will stop raising rates...

Alott of us have been camping before the internet and RUclips.
Yup, I remember those days. 😀
I bet you don't now...the internet has ruined the great outdoors. You can't go anywhere or do anything outdoors without a crowd of youtube hippies making videos.
My whole life
I LOVE my Coleman 2-burner stove that runs on white gas. I usually buy kerosene for it because it's cheap and available here in Reno. I can pitch my tent in the dark or sleep on my cot outside or, in a pinch, sleep inside the bed of my truck. I cannot even imagine paying what these folks pay for campers.
Exactly this
I retmember camping on a beach in Mexico a few years ago when two big rigs showed up with their RUclips channels and social media accounts plastered all over the sides of the rigs. They spent two days there, sitting next to their rigs, making videos of themselves interviewing each other, then packed up and left. Never left their campsite to go to the beach, fish or watch the sunset, just making videos. What a life.
Yep, we see that all the time. No living, just a video and on to the next
Losers
I watched 3 different "Why we are quitting RVing" videos before I watched this video. All 3 turned out to be click bait. None were actually quitting. Thanks for telling the truth.
Thank you for watching!
We love our RV

So sorry to hear about your husband, that must be tough! We have learned that life is short which is why we started our journey quickly
Exactly! Well said ❤️
Touring musician. The road is addictive.

20 years OTR!😳. They don’t make em like that anymore.
Just remember- it's illegal.- your putting out. Dishonest info- oh ,unless your building, then you get limited time. Knock it off

Hi Larry, good system to have. You’re right about the fool me once/twice 😀

>We enjoy sitting still for a few months
That's why people quit RVing. If you’re going to sit in one place, it’s better to sit in a spacious house with water, electricity and sewerage. And don’t worry about batteries, solar panels, car repairs or draining black water.
I'm an introvert and I travel to get away from people. I've done pretty darn good job the last thing in half years.
Love hearing we are not the only ones! Safe travels - Bob & Karri
Thank you for taking the time to comment and share your story as well, we love this ❤️
Maybe each cow could take turns going along on one of your trips! 😄
Got a farm and travel too, makes no sense !!!
Agreed!

@NowinLao You are correct! Thank you! Appreciate the kind words!
For everybody quitting, there are probably 10 people getting into RV life.
That's why there are signs "No overnight parking" everywhere now.
sales do not reflect that.
I’m been living the nomadic lifestyle over 5 years and it definitely has its benefits as well as defeats!
That’s awesome! Congratulations! Like with anything in life, there is good and not so good.

I totally hear you. We get told all the time to show us shopping, show food, etc. That doesn’t work for us.
Thank you for watching and sharing.
I’m literally doing exactly what y’all did…sold it all…set up the kids and watching tons of RUclips waiting for the closing on my house to get my C Class and hit it. Thanks for the honesty and the warnings. Much appreciated folks.
Thank you and Safe Travels!
Thanks!
ty so much for this honest breakdown.

This is another example of "The grass is always greener on the other side". If someone is seriously thinking of selling everything and living full time in an RV, I would strongly suggest they give it a great deal of thought and research. When someone makes life changing decisions based on emotions they are setting themselves up for failure.
Not the point of the video (maybe you didn’t watch it 🤔) but good advice
I agree. Rent something and stay out a few months before spending and making major commitments.
Some folks have never been camping in their entire life.
Rent your home out until you are sure.

We’re happy you found us too! 💕
You guys are more honest than most people. I like it when people are straight forward like this instead of lying and cheating people.
Thank you 😀
i'm starting to think some aren't even fulltime in a van or an RV. They have a home, and are pretending. A while back, a girl was talking about her van life, but the woods weren't thick enough behind her, and her parents/her house could be seen in the background for a couple seconds.
Give us a few weeks - we have that exact point covered!
So far we're enjoying living fulltime in our RV. We're 9 months into it now and haven't looked back yet.
It is a great way of living isn't it? Don't ever look back - always go forward!
Thanks!!!! I’m glad I found you! I’m planning to travel our beautiful country for at least a year and have been researching and asking questions from channels, personal RVers, etc for over a year and still plan to pull the trigger!!! Keep it simple is my motto ❤
Hi Carol! I’m glad you found us too!
Best of luck to you, enjoy your journey and Keep it simple! 😀
JT & Jo-Ann
This lifestyle is definitely not for everyone! Thank you for sharing your story 😀
I am a single mom that just had a spiritual awakening and my soul wants me to hit the open road. I am so grateful for your input on this matter!
Glad to be able to share the truth! Safe travels
Thank you for the kind words! Welcome to our journey 😀
We inherited a timeshare and use it to travel. Our home is an old Italianate house built in 1884. We love it and enjoy having roots here. Good luck to all the nomads!!!
Like your honesty and candidness…
First time to your channel…
You have a new subscriber.
My wife and I plan on joining this
lifestyle once my Mom passes who
we take care of and have for many years…
She is 81 now.
This will be our lifestyle as we travel the US
sight seeing, camping and looking for land
to purchase for our final life on a homestead…
Thank you and welcome to the journey!
welcome to our journey :)
RVing full time is oodles more expensive than people believe...and RV parks are commonly sold out many months ahead of time. It's not a lifestyle I could do, but I understand the draw. If you guys keep your videos genuine, your channel will just continue to grow.
Thank you! We don’t plan on changing who we are .. too old for that 😀
I thought it would be fun BUT it's a big hassle when you can't get a spot or you got mechanical problems. You gotta have resources to pay for those repairs. So many have resorted to the RV and then stuck. I like stability...so RV trips are nice and so is GOING HOME 👍😁
I never understood the logic. Overprice, gas hogs, karens and kens all-over. Pass.
Its a lot like trucking. People get in thinking it's going to be so much fun, they quit two weeks in. this happens to me over and over. I feel like rv life is very simular for many of the same reasons..
Bob and Karri just keep doing what you’re doing and we will keep watching and supporting you, thanks for your honesty!
We will!
💯 we could not agree more!
Nope, sold it, they could not afford the daily expense and the new window and repairs and on and on
@@harriettanthony7352Hopefully you meant $5,000 for a new windshield. There’s no way it was $15,000.
Best advise, always be ready for what the road throws up.
Lol.
There is something to be said for being comfortable in familiar surroundings. That includes your neighborhood, neighbors, church, stores, malls etc.
#FJB
yeah, I like to watch RV videos, but its not for us, we are very involved in our Synagogue activities and we enjoy our extended family at the temple
Awesome! Thank you! That literally is our favorite parts also!
That would be nice if they did BUT it seems that they are trying to grab as much as they can as people tune out
Glad I found your channel/video first. Planning on giving it a go in the future. Look forward to learning as much as possible from trust worthy sources. I believe you guys fit the bill. Thanks
Welcome aboard!
Outdoor life is such an important part of this lifestyle! We also love our RV lifestyle- best decision we ever made! Safe Travels - Bob & Karri
This is the first time that RUclips let me see your channel. Very different, and enjoyable. Nice to see someone who is honest about what is really going on. Subscribed and gave a thumbs up. Thank you.
Thank you- appreciate the support
Thank you- appreciate it!
Safe travels
My hubby & I started our retirement life as full time RVer's! (2011). We did enjoy it alot & made several friends - seem a lot of the country on our own time frame. We got to cross over the Mississippi river in 2022 and our 1st stop was Paducah Kentucky. This was the right place for both of us - so we settled here! We don't regret letting go of the RV & the lifestyle, but there were issues coming up (needed repairs to the rig, problems finding places to park that was in our budget, our ages & the abilities to drive the rig,...). We're happy that we have resettled on our dream (own a small house on 1/2 acre of land & paid cash for it all ❤!)
We still travel to see places & events, but now it's hotels and shorter trips.
That's an exaggeration some of us are just getting started with Motorrhomeing love it baby ❤
All explained in the video 😀
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!
Your description of how RUclipsrs tell you they can now settle down and live on one acre and be happy is exactly what I heard from a famous RVer lady. Nailed her pitch to a T.
I really appreciate your insight on this sales pitch.
Thanks,
Doug
Belen, New Mexico U.S.A.
Thanks Doug! Appreciated the kind words
Thank you so much!
The costs can vary greatly from insanely cheap living to major expensive depending on how you choose to do it. Research research research!
The 22MLE is such a great layout!
We are so glad we downsized and kept our home base. It seems so many people who didn't are now going back to having a home base. We think it's to each his own. There are pros and cons to everything. Lynn and Danny
Absolutely, we applaud everyone for doing it. Life happens, but don’t pretend to be something your not.
If you watch the big channels, they make it sound like they don't have a home base, and most of them do and did all along.
@JanAllOverNow It's why we call ourselves "most timers." We are on the road most of the time, not all the time.
Some of them big channels the people are young.. so there on there way to getting Married and have babies.. so there doing the homesteading thing …people like me and u waited until are kids where grown.. now we are out here..
@@nicolesimpson4614 I agree.
Great to start following you two! We're currently on a Carver 440 motoring America's Great Loop but thinking about getting a motorhome. It will good to see the ups and downs of that life. Thanks for sharing!
That is one beautiful way to travel! Enjoy your journey!
Thank You for your integrity. A lot of folks fell into the "big channel" trap when COVID hit looking for a way to get away from "the infected one's". 👍
Exactly!
Thank you for your genuine honesty. I’ve watched a lot of RV vids just because I enjoy living through everybody else because my wife would never get on board with doing it so I’ll never get to. But I can still dream!
lol, just remember - we started the exact same way!
You are 💯! We love this lifestyle and wouldn’t have it any other way 😀
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment 😀
Speaking the truth! Love the honesty.
Thank you!
I’ve asked them,
“So…have you been camping a lot? Are you good working on cars and trucks? Plumbing?”
“Unnnmmm…we’re gonna watch videos and I ordered a travel fire pit…”
And I’m instantly the buzz kill.
They don’t know these Dream RV videos are about advertising.
They don’t know how expensive and sketchy this nomadic life can be.
RV parks are at capacity and might become more crowded than ever with the current economy.
Thank you for unpacking this truth!
Enjoy your next adventure❤️
That travel fire pit - have one we bought when we first started - never used, sits in the back of the truck 🤣🤣🤣
What you said is what I say too! I may be a buzz kill, but I feel it’s my duty to warn these women.
Honesty ... How refreshing! Gratitude & Appreciation! : )
Very true. We take it slow - no rush to see everything all at once, best advice we ever received to enjoy this life longer!
Just joined. Very few real RV channels left. Thanks for taking the time to share.
Thank you! Welcome to the journey !
Awesome 😊 It’s going to be much easier for part timers to get sites across America again 😎🇺🇸
Honesty is the best policy. Way to go
When I was young and well, I lived a similar lifestyle on a sailboat.
That is awesome!
Love that you’re calling them out.
3 years now fulltime in our GD 5th and we aren’t going anywhere. We’ve been through it all and have no regrets! We make a few videos here and there and are having the time of our lives!
Same here!
Who is there living on the road is safe is an adventure. Two months of the year is good. Good luck everyone have fun.
Thank you for being honest!
Thank you for appreciating honesty 😀
Thank you both for your honesty. God bless you both❤❤
Our pleasure!
I just started this lifestyle over three months ago. For now I'm in what I call myself first grade. There's a lot of learning to this. So far so good. Let's see how I feel in a year or so. Thank you for this video.
You got this! This life is amazing, will never be perfect but pretty darn close !
@@liferedesignedSo far you are right. I would never want life to be perfect, just very good. I was scared at first, but not so much anymore.
Thanks, for the honesty and the humor! Peace, Diane
Thank you Diane!
1994 I was a younger man and the family business I worked for had a family member that sold a successful business and traveled the country in a Rv, I couldn't wrap my head around it. But I was fascinated by the true freedom of nomad living. Of course the millions in the account helped I'm sure.
It is an interesting thing. We have seen this done on crazy high budgets and also done with very little money. All depends on how you choose to do it.
Well said!
When I get to a campground, setup and grab my favorite chair, all stress from the week magically disappears so I’m not going anywhere.
