As for me, there are two other things I do:
    1. take inspirations from the shows I watch (usually tokusatsu and other anime series); and/or

He's talking about how to properly pose a Gundam so it looks realistic and not awkward. If you would like to, make your Gunplas lie down because why not. Art is not just about "breaking boundaries, " part of it is aesthetics and aesthetics are purely objective.

After posing gunpla enough you start to "feel" out what's natural looking.. I rarely use reference photos anymore. Great vid

Another thing when taking photos for your gunpla that matters, is to find an angle, or to arrange the pose to the point that the silhouette of limbs don't overlap with the body's, which decreases the dynamic feeling of your photos heavily in most case.

tip for the dynames: when you're doing a sniper position like that, disconnect the rifle from the peg in the arm to get the elbow out to an actual shooting position. it looks more realistic and gets the scope closer to the head.
general tip: i've found that when a pose looks kinda weird and unnatural, looking at pictures of people doing similar things or even acting it out yourself gives you a really good feel for what should be where.

A very nice video! I much prefer this to Badgunpla's because his video is too specific with its example. Many kits do not have the articulation range of the Astray, and even then many do not have swords to pose with in the first place.
That dynamic katana pose was an extreme that doesn't help much with rifle posing or general action/movement poses.
This video, while longer, is more comprehensive and has a wider variety of poses included.
I guess I should count myself lucky for having posing come naturally to me, but that's mostly because I have had a long history with action figure collecting before I got into Gunpla. I know many newcomers to Gunpla probably don't have the same experience, so getting natural and/or dynamic poses takes more thought beyond copying a still from the anime.
